So after watching "To Boldly Flee" by Channel Awesome and knowing that Doug Walker decided to axe the Nostalgia Critic what are your guys' opinion on this especially since James Rolfe is planning on doing the same thing with the Angry Video Game Nerd?
As for me well, I'm glad Doug and James are moving on to other things. It's like what Brad Jones (a.k.a. Cinema Snob) said, "We can't chase the Zeitgeist forever." I'll still go on That Guy With The Glasses.com for content that Nash and Linkara have and maybe some Anime Abandon by Bennett the Sage but that's about it really.

I think there was more that could've been covered, but it's not bad that Nostalgia Critic ended. Hey, it ended on two very strong high notes. I'm very interested to see where this "Demo Reel" goes if it's so serious they bought a studio. As far as AVGN goes, I was never a big fan, I haven't watched in the last two years as I've been riding Channel Awesome's wave predominantly, as well as reading comics en masse, so I just haven't gotten around to it, especially with my need to archive links to things I enjoy. But if it ends, I'm sure it will end on a high note; Rolfe has always said his real passion is movies and moviemaking, as long as ending his most famous work leads to more of what he really wants, so be it. And end on a high note, it's important to end on a high note.
As far as the rest...all those on TGWTG and those I like I've learned from them, I still follow fondly. Not Fraser so much, given the literal days of content that come out every month, and less so LordKat and Spoony now, given...well, you know...and not...that ONE guy who is NOT "amazing" at all...but everyone else I respect and enjoy the work of greatly.
FYI, everyone, shout out for the more original ones, for those of you who somehow believe "they're all the same":

The franchise MtG most resembles is Battlestar Galactica. Why? Its players exist in, at most, a dozen different models at any given point in time, with perhaps up to 3% variation, 5% if you're lucky.
Anything with Spoony (I realize he left.)

Anything with Doug

Why is he axing it anyway? I used to go on that site for Distressed Watcher once upon a time. What happened to that?
You can watch that same guy on YouTube now under the channel name The Amazing Atheist. There are over 200 critic episodes the formula was beginning to get redundant.
On a side note, when did AVGN announce that he intends to axe the gimmick? I know he's working on some film right now, but I was not aware there was anything that could be definitive on the subject out there.
James Rolfe doesn't seem like he has time to do AVGN anymore since he's already married and is planning on a Hollywood Horror Film Career and personally I'd think he'd be a great movie director which is his dream to achieve. I've also noticed that James has been taking a backseat with Board James as well too. You can only do so much on a website that you only have time for other things especially personal issues as well.
The AVGN Movie isn't out yet although If I were to guess I'd say the conclusion will be alot like how Doug Walker killed off the Nostalgia Critic in "To Boldly Flee". So instead of AVGN becoming a plot hole like Nostalgia Critic I'm assuming some other fate is in store for AVGN but I'm not sure exactly what. As for Brad Jones as Cinema Snob I don't think he's going anywhere but he's proven that you don't need to quit your gimmick after you're married.
I kind of like watching Cinema Snob from time to time but what I really like from Brad Jones is his other material like Kung Tai Ted, Brad Tries, and doing the Midnight Screenings of movies being released in theatres. I haven't really checked into 80's Dan though I've heard great things about it though. As for Spoony he's officially done cause he's already admitted to having a severe case of mental depression. His website is still up but most of his current content isn't as good as it used to be mainly because it was traumatizing for him.

I'm not sure what "drop in quality" you are referring to, most of his fans think that his Ultima series was one of his best ever.
Spoony was misdiagnosed earlier and the medication he was taking was not helping him at all. His latest report from his more blog like sections is that he is doing MUCH better than he was 3-5 months ago and that things are looking up.
I personally have not noticed a huge drop in quality of his videos a few are not that great but most are at least pretty good to great.
Would anyone be surprised if AVGN got the axe, he's spent the last 2-3 years slowing the production to the point were they are hardly made.
Honestly think spoony would benefit from going away for like a year (and getting a job that requires talking to people)...or having his twitter taken away from him. Several of his videos are simply painful to watch, such as his breaking dawn video. Although hearing that he's doing better is encouraging.
Looks like Handsome Tom and Game Heroes are retiring as well, the end is nigh! I'm one of the few that actually enjoy watching Spoony's Vlog's and his Breaking Dawn Review was still a better love story than Twilight...

I like AVGN. He just put out a video on Arnold games and he's been working on the AVGN movie as well. I can also see getting tired of doing it as well and wanting to move onto something else.
It's interesting to watch the growth of people, it seems with the rise of people like Justin Bieber and ect. it's a better place to start small if you can produce something of quality and get a following.

Ambition must be made to counteract ambition.
Individualities may form communities, but it is institutions alone that can create a nation.
Nothing succeeds like the appearance of success.
Here is my principle: Taxes shall be levied according to ability to pay. That is the only American principle.
As critics, I like both of them. They're passionate about films or gaming, know a great deal about it, and are able to discuss it intelligently. As comedians they've never really made me laugh, and I always much preferred their specials, "My Favorite This's or Thats," or "Monster Madness," done out of character. I suppose I liked the AVGN actually, but in small doses, I could never watch more than one or two at a time.
That said, Rolfe is a very likeable and sharp guy, and watching his videos on the making of his feature film have been pretty enlightening. I definitely think he has a future, and will try and track what he's up to in the future.
Personally, I kind of wore out on the NC a couple of years ago. He had already covered all of the goofy 90's kids stuff that I really wanted to see revisited, and as much as I respect the longer, more theatrical stuff he was trying to do, it just wasn't something I had any interest in watching.
It's cool that he's trying out a new idea for an online show, but unfortunately it's not really my cup of tea, and I have my doubts that it will "take." But Doug's a talented guy, and I'm sure he'll find another niche.
My favorite "critic" for a while now has been ToddInTheShadows, who does less of a sketch comedy routine and more actual criticism. His stuff is a great mix of funny and analytical. And given that he does current stuff, he can actually keep his stuff going for years, and is less likely to burn out the same way NC did.
Personally I am glad that James is closing down AVGN. I mean, he has a family, dreams, fame, he doesn' need the series. It's just getting stale. Old. Tiring. I hope he continues his other series I mean I love James and Mike Mondays, loved boerd james (hope he continues it) great series. And a movie? I look forward to. I wished the Nostalgia Critic would do the same. He should have axed it he needs to focus his attention on his other shows, his personal life, keeping that site up and running. In my opinion Critic is better than Nerd even with his new episodes even though the new critic shows are getting old. See I think youtube is their biggest contender. All those rising youtube stars, honestly I think the nerd and critic and all the rest are apart of an older generation, some work with the new others don't. And I think its time that the new generation takes rise. Screwattack is going great what with all the new contributers to their, site, like for example, my favourite series, gametheory, amazing show (check him out please and subscribe, great show I love MatPat like my brother: http://www.youtube.com/user/MatthewPatrick13) anyways he is apart of a newer genration and he's apart of thescrewattsck family, and with 1 million subs, awesome! Anyways my point, some shows will work along side this new generation, like say cimea snob and whatnot, and others, like the critic and nerd, will need to be left behind. Anyways sorry for typing such a needlessly long rant but thanks for listening:{D Critic out.
This thread is pretty much irrelevant now that both James Rolfe (AVGN) and Doug Walker (Nostalgia Critic) are still making content on their websites. Nostalgia Critic came back after Demo Reel and James Rolfe is currently working on his Angry Video Game Nerd film while doing video game reviews with Mike Matei aside from releasing new episodes of AVGN once in a blue moon. But yeah I don't see James and Doug going anywhere anytime soon.

Doug Walker wants to move on to other things and believes that axing it now with a bang is better than waiting for it to get stale.
Apparently, they had a falling out. The guy released a video on youtube that explained what happened.
