7th Saga would be OK if it wasn't for crap graphics and sound on top of the rest of the crap. It's sort of a challenge game requiring multiple replays if it was at all packaged well.

Well, let's clarify something here, because a game can be challenging for a number of different reasons.
The problem with 7th Saga is that the game is hard because of very bad game design, and poor conveyance of what exactly the player is supposed to do.
Your open hatred for 7th Saga shall stand no more. Maybe the OP likes endless grinding and a game that's overly cruel. Maybe the OP likes being in a nearly unwinnable game due to party composition. Maybe the OP likes a game that is unforgivably mean for all the wrong reasons. Well, I support 7th Saga.
I'm going to have to buy a hat to tip to you for making this post, sir.
This guy covers a lot of obscure classics for the SNES and other 16 bit systems. He gives you a good overview of the games and their significance in history. He also reviews a number of games already mentioned in this thread.

Wow, thank you for that.
I disagree on his review of Illusion of Gaia, but screw that. His "Earthbound - A History" is fantastic.

No problem.
I dont always agree with his opinions, but he is good at what he does and his videos are relevant to the current thread. His BS Zelda retrospective is a favorite of mine.
EDIT: I also like this guy. Click on the sidebar for Super NES, then click on Sort by Grade. Anything that's a B+ or better is usually worth checking out.
Here are some of my all-time well remembered games.
Batman Returns
Super Ninja Boy
The Legend of Zelda - Link to the Past
Final Fantasy 2 and 3.
Chrono Trigger
Super Mario Kart
Actraiser
Secret of Mana
NBA Live 95
Pilot Wings
Super Mario World
Star Fox
Super Mario All-Stars
Yoshi's Cookie and Goof Troop were decent puzzle games.
And I'm sure there are more, I played so much of that. Makes me want to emulate it up!
There was also another one I am trying to think of, I think it started with an L. Lumina, or something, I just can't remember but it was a lot like zelda in that it was not turn based, but rather you were always in the action.
The only reason I mentioned 7th Saga was because it was very unique. It was challenging, and that was one of the reasons I liked it. I also liked that you could play as any one of a number of characters, and each would cross paths trying to take each other out through out the game. Its also the only RPG from that era where you could get attacked by not moving around, which was something I thought should be in more RPGs.
Romancing SaGa 3: deep skilltrees, branching story paths, tons of characters. If you liked SaGa Frontier then you'll love this.
Live-A-Live: Another game with multiple character paths, and comparable to Chrono Trigger but with a heavier emphasis on story
Super Turrican series: An awesome blend of Metroid, Contra, and other run-n-gun classics.
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together : Final Fantasy Tactics owes a lot to this game. There's a psx remake but the SNES version emulates better.

Illusion of Gaia?
I'm going to go ahead and say don't bother with this. Play Terranigma instead.
Zombies Ate My Neighbors was GREAT... though I always got stuck on one level... Also a fan of Secret of Mana. I liked that more than most RPGs that were around...

Nah. If he has the time, he really 'ought to play the whole trilogy. Even then, Illusion of Gaia may pale in comparison to some of the RPG's of its time, but it's worlds better than a lot of modern games.
If you're running an emulator, Super Demo World: The Legend Continues. It's a Super Mario World engine game that's about 10x more challenging, with a bit more believable storyline about Yoshi eggs being cooked for breakfast.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):

No, it's not a good game at all. Illusion of Gaia just isn't worth the lackluster gameplay. And there's nothing about the trilogy that's special or noteworthy in terms of gameplay anyway. Terranigma is the only game worth playing because the music is great and the graphics I've ever seen on the SNES.
There are just far better games for the SNES. You've got:
Chrono Trigger, one of the best RPGs ever made.
Looney Tunes B-Ball, one of the best sports games ever made.
Wario's Woods, one of the best puzzle games (in my opinion the best puzzle game) ever made.
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, one of the best Zelda games ever made.
Zombies Ate My Neighbors, one of the best arcade-style games ever made.
Mega Man X, one of the best platformers ever made.
Super Mario All-Stars, one of the best games ever made.
You're dealing with perhaps the greatest gaming library ever. There is zero reason to settle for bad gameplay.
Also, Aladdin is apparently fantastic.
Now, I have a question to you all: I remember Nintendo Power ran an article on a game called Brain Lord that looked interesting. Did anyone play this? If so, any good?
EDIT: I also like this guy. Click on the sidebar for Super NES, then click on Sort by Grade. Anything that's a B+ or better is usually worth checking out.
He gave Mega Man X and Kirby Super Star both B minuses?
No. No, that is a clear sign of a flawed grading rubric.
EDIT: He gave Silent Hill 1 an A and Silent Hill 2 a B+? What is this guy doing?
I agree that Illusion of Gaia is a very subpar game, especially considering the library. I didn't even know it was part of a series until you just mentioned it.
But Highroller also dislikes Lufia and Breath of Fire so I can only agree with him so much I have no problems with those games that he just listed, though I am not a huge Chrono Trigger slappy like everyone around (the game is still quality though). I'd rather play FF6 than it any day.

I don't think I ever mentioned anything about Breath of Fire. I've not played the games.
As for Lufia, I've played Lufia 1 and it has the same problem as Tales of Phantasia: the random encounter rate is at least twice that of Final Fantasy even after you use the items that reduce random encounter rate, which you must always have on. The result is absolute tedium and nothing in the game right now indicates to me that it's worth pushing through.
Apparently Lufia II, however, is sensational. And apparently Lufia II has no random encounters. Thus, I'm willing to bet the former is true, and that the latter is one of the primary reasons why.
