Apparently Lufia II, however, is sensational. And apparently Lufia II has no random encounters. Thus, I'm willing to bet the former is true, and that the latter is one of the primary reasons why.
My bad on Breath of Fire. But BoF 1 and 2 both have high encounter rates that you use items and spells to mitigate but it's not as bad as Lufia.
And Lufia II is sensational. It also is a prequel, so you do not have to know anything about Lufia I to play it. In fact, you should probably play Lufia II first because then you won't know what is coming in the story (the Lufia I prequel will not make it a surprise). It's constantly rated one of the best RPGs on the system and that is saying something with the SNES' vast library. There are some minor bugs (item names are bugged, capsule monsters ask for rare items, parts of the game are graphically glitched) that are annoying though.

Yeah, isn't the beginning of Lufia I the ending for Lufia II?
If so, sounds like all the more reason not to play Lufia I first.
No, it's not a good game at all. Illusion of Gaia just isn't worth the lackluster gameplay. And there's nothing about the trilogy that's special or noteworthy in terms of gameplay anyway. Terranigma is the only game worth playing because the music is great and the graphics I've ever seen on the SNES.
I enjoyed it to a certain amount. But that's because I easily enjoy a lot of SNES games. You do have fair points on a few fronts.
There are just far better games for the SNES. You've got:
Chrono Trigger, one of the best RPGs ever made.
Looney Tunes B-Ball, one of the best sports games ever made.
Wario's Woods, one of the best puzzle games (in my opinion the best puzzle game) ever made.
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, one of the best Zelda games ever made.
Zombies Ate My Neighbors, one of the best arcade-style games ever made.
Mega Man X, one of the best platformers ever made.
Super Mario All-Stars, one of the best games ever made.
You're dealing with perhaps the greatest gaming library ever. There is zero reason to settle for bad gameplay.
I'm well aware of all of these, as I mentioned almost all of them earlier in the thread
BTW, Mega Man X2 > Mega Man X. Mega Man X is a fantastic game, but not a lot of people have checked out X2. Most people I have talked to who have say it is better, and it certainly is. It blows my mind every time. The epic jump in the ice-level where you have to dash with the robot suit, float with it, jump out, dash again as X, and then hook-shot... YEAAAHHH!! The only bad thing about it were the animal/object choices for the bosses. The fights were good, but... an Ostrich? A sponge? A cactus too?! What, did they run out of Emu's and Zebra's? The appearances are silly, but dear sweet Jesus do I love me some X2. Amazing gameplay, longer levels, cool power-up's, challenging bosses...
If you ever need any more suggestions, just ask. My bookshelf is full of SNES games.
Now, I have a question to you all: I remember Nintendo Power ran an article on a game called Brain Lord that looked interesting. Did anyone play this? If so, any good?
Brain Lord is alright. A lot of people say it wasn't one of Enix's finer moments. However, I bought it for $8 last year, and I got my moneys-worth.
Check it out if you like Soul Blazer, Terranigma, etc.
I am looking at buying an SNES, because I've seen some for relatively cheap on Craigslist, and I'm wondering -- Is there any place I can get some of these games for cheap? Like, what is the cheapest place to get them? I'm looking at FF3 online and that **** ain't cheap!
I really loved Zombies At My Neighbors. Never did beat it though; I think I got to level 46 or so. Big tip: use the code to jump into the Day of the Tentacle level before level 1. You'll get a bazooka which lets you open the secret entrance to the Day of the Tentacle level in level 1. Going through that level twice lets you rack up some serious points and weapons early in the game.
I haven't seen any one suggest the original mario kart. It might just be me, but my friends and I used to....hang...out... and play tons of mario kart in between eating munchies. That game was good times lol.
other than that I have seen the whole library of games for the SNES on this thread.

I can't really agree on Chrono Trigger being that awesome. For sure it's a pretty good game and every SNES player should own a copy, but compared to FF6, Secret of Mana and Terragnima it's pretty pale.
False.
Look, I love Secret of Mana, I do, but Final Fantasy VI is the only game on that list that competes with Chrono Trigger, and Chrono Trigger's story is far more solid.
On a sidenote, Seiken Densetsu 3 was already mentioned, but it's one of those games where you're not supposed to care if it's already mentioned and keep mentioning it.
Everyone always mentions FFVI but never FFV. It completely overhauled FFIII's job system and had a pretty good story and the most humor I've seen in the series. FFVI was a great game and all but man the world map for the World of Ruin is so brown it looks like an Xbox 360/PS3 game.
Chrono Trigger definitely has the best characters in any RPG hands down. Best silent protagonist, best princess, even the best robot. To this day no other game has elicited such a huge emotional response from me, hearing the soundtrack still makes me tear up a little and get all nostalgic.

Eh, i am a huge fan of all 3 games and if i had to pick the best story of them i'd go with FF6. Its a much more solid and cohesive story. But not by too much. Trigger wins out for me overall with better mechanics, setting, characters and raw emotion the game presents. The story tends to drag, for me, in the prehistoric era.
Those 3 games are in my top 5 games of all time. I obviously recommend all 3 very highly, although my experience with Secret of Mana may be a bit different because i always played it with my brother.

No, no, Chrono Trigger doesn't establish someone as the protagonist only to completely forget about her and treat her as entirely irrelevant in the third act. Granted, FFVI still manages to be good in spite of this, and that's absolutely to its credit, but still.

Yeah, that's the thing that makes Secret of Mana shine, it's rare for a story-mode RPG to be multiplayer.
I'm sure the OP has played it, among many other hardcore SNES-players like myself. However, I've actually come across a handful of people who haven't played Yoshi's Island. I know it gets a lot of flak for the whole "baby Mario crying" thing... well, just don't get hit then.
It is:
1) One of the best "Mario" games ever produced (if you want to call it that, easily in the top 5).
2) One of the best SNES games the entire library has to offer.
3) One of the best platforming games ever
4) Just so pretty to look at too.
I love this game. I always have, and I always will. The level designs are unique. Trying to get 100% on every level will leave you coming back for more. The gameplay also added a lot of new elements that hadn't been seen in Mario games before. I could rant on and on, but the point is... If you're one of those crazy persons who hasn't played it yet, I urge you to.

Yep, though they added more and changed the dialogue a little bit in Lufia II.
