Thanks Anyway, there's an explanation for that: every single team played über-defensive vs. Spain.
Our midfield was probably the best of the world, with Xavi.
Actually, I don't think every team did that. Paraguay, for example, managed to rule the midfield for a big chunk of the match, and in the end it could have gone either way. In fact, it was the one game where Paraguay didn't play defensively in the entire cup. It was the closest match in Spain's path, in my opinion - even closer than the final.
Germany did play defensively against them, which is still a big question mark for me. A poor decision by Löw (who probably got just a little too scared without Müller) that cost them the cup.
Still, the Spanish midfield was their great asset. Their offense was lacking (Torres didn't exist, while other offensive players missed so many chances it isn't funny), and the defense is not that stellar in my opinion (Piqué is excellent , but I really don't like Puyol).
I still want a rematch with Müller playing instead of Trochowski ^^
Spain just stopped hanging on to Torres in the last second.
So true. A shame Müller missed that match, in particular because he received both yellows for nothing. His impact on our game was huge and perhaps would have given our sqad the edge to beat Spain. Perhaps. But still, bringing on Pedro in place of Torres was a brilliant move.
He he, yeah I don't know why people get upset about it. In the end it's just a funny story, a story the Spanish probably will still be telling their kids in a hundred years: How Paul the octopus crowned the Spanish team champions of the world ... and lived happily ever after.
yea...I mean, what are the odds of that?
1 in 256 you say?
<insert rant here>
