The main issue with this is that soccer is a game that's constantly moving. In order for the game to be played in a way that flows naturally, you can't have the officials running off to the sidelines and debating each time someone makes a questionable play. If you did then the games would hardly move as quickly as they do now. It wouldn't "feel" like soccer, it'd seem a different game entirely.
Also here's hoping the Danes hold it together tomorrow.
Simply do it only for goals unless they already do that.

I feel like that would diminish a lot of the responsibilities of the Assistant Referees. Off-sides really wouldn't really even need to be called as much then because they could just go back and make sure he was on-sides when they were reviewing it.
Does anyone feel that the Red card given out in the Germany/Australia game was completely uncalled for?

I feel it was uncalled for, I find red cards serious and it wasn't that serious.
Australia is a team I always liked for some reason, not really sure why. Perhaps because they are always underdogs and have to tough it out against the odds. Anyway, I knew Germany will come out guns blazing if for no other reason that to show everyone that loosing 4-5 standard players is not as crippling to their team as many believed. I was guessing a 2-0 or 2-1 win, but 4-0 was a beating. Goes to show what a red card can do, even though they were in a 2-0 lead already. I feel sorry for Australia.

Australia just played very sloppy, they never seemed to do anything apart from play around with the ball in the midfield.
harry kewell was on the bench, why? They only had ONE striker and he was looking for support most of the game. The defence was terrible, seriously.
Also when every other sport in the world seems to have adopted the instant replay, recording ruling soccer hasn't. And seems to have actively resisted it.
I believe that there are 2 reasons for that:
1) Instant Replay slowdown the game
2) Not all (most) countries can afford a replay painel, and that's a really huge fact. While most americans sports are restricted to a few countries, Soccer is the most popular game on the world, praticed everywhere, so many poor countries just can't fill such requeriment, and FIFA wants to the soccer praticed on Europe to be the same one praticed on the far remote countries on the world.

I've been a longtime advocate of electronic rules enforcement on footie. It's pretty much the one qualm I have with it nowadays.
And so the Netherlands beat Denmark. They're definitely one of the teams to watch, especially if Robben comes back. Like I always say, a dutch title is long overdue. The Danish didn't impress me... it makes me think Cameroon can actually qualify after the Netherlands in this group.
Predictions for today: Cameroon will beat Japan with some ease, while Italy will struggle to do something against Paraguay.
The Paraguayan have been really strong in the last few years, beating Brazil and Argentina during qualifying, and finishing well ahead of Argentina. In fact, the only reason they didn't win the qualifiers is because they played sloppily at home in their last match, and managed to lose against Colombia. A simple draw would have pushed them ahead of Brazil, and given them the title.
The Italian side is a mere shadow of the 2006 World Champions in my opinion, and is probably the weakest among the big guns. I'm sensing a draw there, which kinda sucks, since I'm half Italian and usually cheer for them a bit.
The 9-0 game I was talking about wasn't the world cup, it was at the UEFA cup in the group stage.
You want high scoring? Highest score in an international match was Australia VS samoa - and it was zero to samoa, and THIRTY ONE to Australia. Thirty freaking one!
And, really, FIFA should take a note out of Yugio's book and just multiply all the scores by, say, 500. Much more interesting sounding!
On australia: We're not fielding our best possible team (CF kewel on bench) and I don't think we have a prayer of making it out of the group stage. A co-worker of mine has bets with various people that we don't score a goal during the world cup, and I'm not convinced he'll lose money.
Edit: On electronic refereeing: I think it is a no-brainer. Things like the hand of god and various -completely-obviously bull☺☺☺☺ dives to gain penalties should be driven the frack out of the game. For instance, the dive Italy took against AU at the last world cup - ☺☺☺☺e like that, which was super obvious on video, should be called down to the ref as a matter of course. It doesn't have to slow down the game; just have someone watching the broadcast, and in situations like that have a quick chat with the ref! Even if you don't action-replay stuff it will improve the game and weed out the gross cheating which the game has a rep for.
Predictions for today: Cameroon will beat Japan with some ease
After the first 45 minutes, Cameroon looks like they might loose the game with ease.
My 2 cents on the electronic rules enforcement: it would prevent cheating and that is something not easily done. A lot of money revolves around soccer (betting especially) and the big guns like to have the situation tilted their way with judges being the most easily influenced party. Yes, it sounds bad, but just check all the nastiness around Europe with players and judges selling games... it's big money and where there's big money on the line it is a hard thing to change the rules.
I think it is bound to happen one day, but it won't be very soon.

Whoa, that was surprising. Considering how badly Japan fared on their preparation a month ago, I fully expected them to lose all games. I guess that's proof that a single Eto'o does not a team make.
On high-scoring: the specialness of goals makes football that much more appealing to me. I love the tension that builds up from seeing a team (or both) almost score. Even if a game ends up 0-0, it can be very entertaining to watch - the passing, the smart positioning, the great goalkeeping. And when goals do happen, it's just indescribable - I think it's a feeling not easily emulated by other sports. I think Americans as a rule of thumb are not accustomed to that, and prefer games where scoring is constant.
I can't stand basketball, for example - so many points are made every game that the very act of scoring becomes way too commonplace.
I'm glad most of the world holds football in such a high esteem though. It would be so boring to me if it were only a nation-wide fever, like American football.
the Tied game of italy is nothing amazing, the level of italy was bad now its awful, they couldnt beat Paraguay and paraguay is playing without his best striker (due to an accident involved with Guns and prostitues) bu
Italy was lucky to get a goal in my opinion. Paraguay played the best I'd seen them play. It may have been a fluke, but perhaps not....

Italy did play quite bad today, but I don't think they are a bad team. They are ranked 5th in the world. They couldn't beat Paraguay, but they didn't lose to Paraguay.

Agreed. They just played bad today, they are still a very good team. (and I am half italian)
They are also a very passionate team. I feel that it helps them sometimes.
I can't wait to see New Zealand play. I was surprised they qualified.

As much as I want the kiwis to do good, I just don't see it happening. Their Confederations Cup last year was a disaster, and they don't seem to have gotten much better since then. A shame, really.
Slovakia is half of a formerly fearsome national team (Czechoslovakia). The Czech Republic has had more success recently, but I can see them giving Paraguay (and Italy) a run for their money.
