In previous nomics, we have had two phases to the voting period, including a debate phase and a voting phase.
In the debate phase, editing the proposal is possible to draw from any thoughts the other players might have contributed to clean the rule up, o make it better. Early voting was also possible, but dangerous as the prop could be changed and your vote still counted.
Then the voting period, when people voted, but editing was no longer allowed.
My question to you all is; do you think something similar would be beneficial to a small game like ours? I'll go on record saying I would strongly support such a system in nomic #3.

I'd say 48 hours discussion period, with a 72 hour voting period is pretty typical. Or 48 and 48. I haven't thought about how this plays into the turn rule yet, so I'm not sure.

Yeah, half and half is good. I seem to remember less time for debate, only to allow more time for voting. That way lazy people could still have their vote count.

There's no reason to think any otherwise. I would definitely play on until he gets back by making props and voting. When he gets back, it'll be the right around the end of turn two, so not really a huge deal.

that's pretty much what I figured. It was mostly to notify people that makingnotches wil not be participating for a bit.

Ah, I see. that makes sense. I wonder what TFF thinks about it?
Does anybody know if you can still PM while on suspension? I don't know if him contributing would be allowed while on suspension, so I'd recommend finding out first, but if he can PM he can still help make props. I don't know though, it is just an idea.

This is exactly why I designed some of the rule set as I did (well, not exactly, but it's the same idea). The game should be able to continue running smoothly even if a few players aren't/can't participate for some reason. So, yes Eco, continue playing alone until your teammate returns, the only thing you lose in terms of the game is a vote.
I'd like to still play. My involvement so far has been low, but the game is new and slow. If we keep at, we might be able to make it a game still. [/hopes]
It seems like it's just me relentlessly pushing a Standard Piece towards the blue home square.
I wasn't going to say anything...

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post here yet since I have not been officially assigned to Green Team yet, but oh well, here goes anyway.
I'd like to preemptively apologize for getting anything hugely wrong in this post, as I have probably not read through all thread as well as I should.
I like Nomic, it's very cool. I am very glad to see it attempted on this board. However it seems there is a problem. The other two games had little to no activity from what I saw from skimming, and they subsequently died. I think this is a game that can easily be one that forum members can have a lot of fun with, and not need to invest to much time in. Compared to the tons of reading and intense analysis that is often needed for Mafia I do not think that time is the real issue. I think it is simply matter of people needing to see this executed in a fun and timely manner, which has yet to happen. I hope to put some energy into this game, and help it succeed.
Unfortunately I havn't posted on Salvation in a very long time, so I do not know anyone, and the number one thing this game needs is players. So I will need some help from a couple of you to get some people willing to check this every day. I really think if 6 people check this daily and post, just 15 minutes of their time, that is all it will take to make this catch on. I'll be the first, so now just 5. Help me out here.
The game needs help as well though. I will start by saying I dislike the board game setup. It seems slow to me, and not all that interesting or innovative which is exactly the opposite of what Nomic should be.
However it is what the players before me chose to use. (I think?) Seeing as such I will not complain to much about the concept, and simply aim to adjust it. My two major suggestions are as follows.
1: Make game turns 4 days long instead of the current week. This provides 48 hours for both debate and voting, and will speed things up. Speeding up a game with player base issues may seem counter intuitive, but I am confident it is the right thing to do. I have experience with event organizing, and putting timely and consistent deadlines in place serves to focus people and get them to commit to involvement.
2: Speed up the "board game" to put an end in sight. As this game stands it could go on a very long time, and that provides no excitement to potential players. If they see how an endgame will arise and an exciting game will play out they will be more inclined to want to be involved. I suggest accomplishing this by doing the following:
A. Create a way to make more pieces. (Something simple like: "A Team may pay 5 Points to create a new Standard piece on their home square".)
B. Removing the moderator from the "Most controlled squares" count and upping that bonus to 3. This should start putting points on the board for a team and put a fire under people to start changing things if they hope to win.
C. Creating a Center Mod Home Square that anyone can score off of. Again this will make points easier to get and speed up the pace
D. Award auto points for something to put a clock on the game. Maybe just a point for each piece a team controls.
Even if you disagree with these changes or do not think they would be fun, I urge you to consider the broader health of Nomic. Even if you have less fun with these rules and it ends faster than you want, we will be able to point potential players at a game that played out in a timely manner and concluded in a manner other than fizzling out from lack of participation.
Implementingany of these changes would take a lot of time since I can only submit one change per turn, and only with the consent of my team mate, so if any of you see fit to submit any of these changes to speed up the process that would be appreciated.
Of course all of these changes rely on the 6 regular players I mentioned before. If you read this post PLEASE POST DAILY OR FIND SOMEONE WHO WILL!

Hello to everyone in Nomic #3. I'm the latest addition. My thought for now:
The game board could be fun, but it needs something more. I'm trying to come up with other sorts of games that we could play here. A nomic I'm involved with in real life has a game of Magic (see my post in the Nomic General Discussion for that), but that's not the best way to go here.
This is a question to all voters and teams:
In previous nomics, we have had two phases to the voting period, including a debate phase and a voting phase.
In the debate phase, editing the proposal is possible to draw from any thoughts the other players might have contributed to clean the rule up, o make it better. Early voting was also possible, but dangerous as the prop could be changed and your vote still counted.

in your experience, what is a good time frame for the two periods?

2 days//5 days gets my vote, but 3//4 also works.

Wasn't much for me to do except shout at higher-ups repeatedly until it got done, but thanks anyway
If that is what it took, we are glad you did it.

I presume I should just keep playing by myself until he gets back.

maybe once I don't need to panic revise to avoid catastrophic exam failure I can participate again.
