Aaron Forsythe today announced that Jace, the Mindsculptor and Stoneforge Mystic from standard, marking the first time since Mirrodin that there were bannings in standard. However, there is an escape clause which allows Stoneforge Mystic to be played in the War of Attrition Event Deck only if the deck is played in its entirety without any changes.
Sweet, two degenerate combo decks battling it out for king of the hill. This is gonna suck.

There are two types of people in this world: people who think that countermagic is the most powerful effect in the game and people who aren't morons.
My color is Purple. I value diversity, smashed color pies and obsolete Inquest articles. At my best, I can redefine MTG in a new and wonderful way. At my worst, I can end up as an Unhinged joke. My symbol is not defined. My enemies are 5 old and bureaucratic angry colors.
I guess this means my creatures don't have to pass the "jace test" anymore... or at least not to the extent that they did before this banning. this is good news for the wormcoil engines and baneslayer angels of the world.
Well, I got a feeling this is going to shake up me and my son's next FNM immensely. Still gonna ask a bud who plays Cawblade there for a game against it for fun, I ache to beat it on my own terms.
youre forgetting Valakut, RDW, Kuldotha Rebirth, Big Red, Infect, Midrange Green, Goblins, Elves, White Weenie (w/o stoneforge), Tempered Steel, and more!
Valakut is one of those degenerate combo decks. The rest of that list basically reads: "Mono-Red, Elves, and trash."

rubbing salt to wound to someone who just lost couple of hundred bucks?
This kid at my FNM (he's 12) doled out his entire yu-gi-oh collection for a set of Jaces so I can sympathize with you. Even worse, there's this guy with two sets of foiled jaces.

In the Defense of people who bought a playset of Jace. I understand the reasoning behind these bannings, but I don't think it was necessary. This is because they are in STD for only 4 more months.
Formats get dry no matter what you do to them. There will always be a dominating deck, even if the format is diverse and if there is only 4 more months to deal with it, I don't see a point in aggravating customers.
I however sold my Jaces and Stoneforge last month, so I'm lucky.
Took another trip to Mirrodin to accomplish this. Same screw up as Skull Clamp.
I also like how the banning committee also pointed out how the 'net warps deck development. The pros will make a great deck, and everyone will copy it off the net. That is why I prefer draft over constructed.

it will but you won't have a SFM on turn 2, pull sword on turn 3, JTMS entering in next couple turns constantly putting your top card on the bottom...
Now they will have to hope to draw and then have a plan better than "strap the knife to the birdie"
