Pretty bummed that there is nothing in the Pacific Northwest (which I've written about already in my blog). Was really hoping to go this year and would have driven to Seattle or Vancouver, BC. Unfortunately, Denver or San Diego is way too far.
Wizards just doesn't understand how much support they get in the Pacific Northwest (they are even in Seattle for pete's sake!). People come here from BC Canada, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and sometimes a bit further to play in these things...very disappointed
I definitely have to agree. GP Portland was the biggest GP the Pacific NW has ever had. The turnout just to play a crappy Sealed format (yes, M11 Sealed blows, but that's a different story for a different day) was unbelievable.
Maybe it's because I live in Oregon and everything's not jam-packed like a can of sardines that the EC states seem to be, but 4 hour drives really aren't that bad. GP Portland was a 3 hour drive going up and back for the carpool I was in, and I've been on 3+ hour drives quite a bit. Be lucky that a GP is reasonably close by.

We did have GP vancouver a few years back. Montreal is a maybe, I might get into McGill... The September GPs are kind of iffy based on classes and workloads (starting 1st year next September), I would like to try the summer ones...
Why would you want to come to Vancouver, when it's basically raining all the time? (PS it's raining right now)

OMG are you serious guy? X( the closest GP to me is 7 hours and it's limited. The GP I care about is 1385 miles away. 4 hour drives?? Srsly??? Get over it.
Basically my reaction (apart from being bummed about limited, limited's awesome, I prefer not to go to constructed ones). I dream about having 4 hours from where I live, but it will never, ever happen. Even 10 hours is something I would consider pretty close. Actually, if I were to take a train/bus/something like that, the closest one next year would be Amsterdam, which is probably close to 24 hours away.
If you cry about being 4 hours away from a GP, you are spoiled.
I can't believe you guys complain about this. I have to take a 28 hour bus drive to santiago for the only GP in my continent. Driving 4-12 hours nothing compared to the journey that awaits me for my first gp experience. Americans are just to ethnocentric to not notice how lucky they are and are always complaining.

I was surprised to see Chile as opposed to Brazil or Venezuela, but I am glad to see you guys got something down there. I'm guessing it being in Chile has to do with trade agreements or governmental stability or something like that. Compared to the pictures of Santiago on Wikipedia the Google images make it look like Favela in MW2. Somebody needs to get on top of that because the skyline is pretty impressive. Certainly a place I need to go before I leave this ball of mud.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
I lived 2 years in santiago and the city is really nice. I think it makes sence it is in chile because the last 2 GPs we had here were in buenos aires and in sau paulo. I'm glad it is there to as I have family and many people I know who live there that I could crash with.
Santiago is a very unequal city, just like the rest of Latin America, very calm and not dangerous thou.
Brazil is the obvious choice to run a GP in South America, but they've had most of GP's and Buenos Aires got the last one. I don`t know much of Venezuelan Magic scene but i bet Chilean one is bigger, we already got a GP 10 years ago. Also, we`re closer for Argentinians and Brazilians to como here than Venezuela.

Oh, I got nothing against limited. I'm trying to get my buddies excited about going to that limited GP, I'm like the only person in my circle of friends who even plays limited. It's just that I prefer Legacy, it's the format I have the most experience with and it's where I probably have the best chances of doing well. I went 5-3-1 at Columbus this year.
But yeah, I totally agree, 4 hours from a GP is a gift, not something to complain about.
Chile is not a bad option is enough close to argentina and Brazil just those 3 countries has a decent mtg community in the region, i live in latin america region (Mexico) but i dont think in attend to chile, any place in Europe is even more cheap than the travel to chile im think in attend to amsterdam GP or Barcelona.
Being one of those in the Pacific Northwest, I can only see one bright note about there not being a GP anywhere remotely :o:o:o:o ing near us: we get another year to hone our skills. That's the only somewhat bright note to this. Beyond that, that sucks serious moose droppings.
Damn me and my optimism.

The Grand Prix Providence will be held at the RI Convention Center. 1 Sabin Street, Providence, RI, 02903. Feel free to contact me for more GP Providence information.

Well, it rains all the time here in Vancouver WA (just across the border from Portland, OR), so rain isn't a big deal for me. I actually enjoy the rain for the most part.
I really want to get into higher competitive tournaments, but there isn't crap here in the PNW. However, I did just find out that one of the shops here where I play is going to have a GP trial on the 20th. So, I'll go play in that.
Definitely hitting up Providence, maybe Pittsburgh too depending on how good Standard is at that point in time. I didn't go to Columbus, but having another Legacy GP close by is great. /thumbs up

Yeah I know. Montreal and Providence are both about equidistant from me...but neither is really appealing. Legacy is my favorite format, but not to drive 4+ hours to (okay...more like 2-3 hours if I can drive like on New England terms) just to scrub out with Enchantress X-3 (btw...not something I'd really like to play for 5+ hours...bear of a deck...still the funnest deck I can afford though). And Core Set sealed? Really Wizards...really?
I think once again, this coming year will be better served with trips that will tax my liver, rather than playing a children's card game...in America.
I'm also wondering this for Denver. I do have a concern tho'. The WPN shows that the GP: Atlanta is scheduled for February 9-11, not the 19-20 that Wizards lists.
I just... Wow. No love for the Pacific Northwest? The headquarters are in Renton for crying out loud. I really have no desire to go to any of the places listed in the US, either because of the location or the format. The locations outside of the US though, sound really appealing. Maybe I'll save up a ton of money to go to Montreal, or Shanghai. I'd like to go to Japan but I don't like the formats they listed.
Or, I could just skip GPs this year and go to Worlds in San Francisco If I saved money starting now, I could go wild.
I drove 4 hours to philly then @ 4 in the morning my gf drove me 4 hours to washington dc to watch brad nelson crush the feild last year, gp providence is only 3 hours away, only wish it was standard or extended oh well counter-top is gonna have to get some srs testing in, or I could be the darkhorse and run burn, lol.
Agree with the NW hate from wizards. Washington has the most MTG players per capita I'd bet. The turn out for the GP in Seattle I went to a couple years ago set a record for attendance in North America.:mad::mad:K you WOTC!!!!!

Racist and ignorant statment. Surprised it was allowed to stay. American mods not wanting to "offend" foreigner posters for fear of being called racist? I kid I kid. But seriously, if I said "you [insert nationality here] are [insert generalization that's not at all true here]," would it be allowed to stay? Wouldn't I get a warning at least?

I never knew american was a race. I probably went to far generalizing like that and I apologize but it is annoying to find a thread where a bunch of people of any country or region of the planet are complaining about how they did not get a GP close enough, and they have 2 PTs and a bunch of GPs, and my continent/region is getting 1 GP. I feel super lucky about getting 1 GP (2010 we did not get one) and I will do the best I can to attend and think that other people should see how special they are compared to others.
