That PM is so unsettling. If I recieved it, I would feel both enraged and betrayed.
I've done this to someone before. When I was in a band, and we were having problems with this one bandmember, and we pretty much decided over a long period of time to ask him to leave the band. I mean, it worked.. He left the band, but it was wrong how we handled it. I felt like we had taken the easy way out, by building up all these feelings without his imput, and then unleashing them on him out of the blue one day. He felt like crap, felt angry and betrayed. We felt like crap too, by taking the easy way out, and I regret how I behaved to this day.
On top of this. I couldn't disagree more with the motivations behind the demotion. I've been active here a long time, and I've always loved the work Craven has done. He seemed very fitting for a global mod as well, because to me, he always seemed to have a distinct voice that was usually vital to any given situation, and somehow came from a unique perspective.
The only time I've ever seen him handle a situation with a heavy hand, is in the rulings forums. A place which already has more exacting guidelines then any other part of the forum....
Just go there now, anybody, on a gimic account, pick any topic and then post a slightly off topic post regarding strategy, and see what happens to you.
...and these slightly heavy handed posts are usually on violations that are repeated over and over and over again, where people do the same crap ad infinitum. More often then not, it's just some random man or woman who is playing with their buddies, comes up with a rules problem, and quickly gets onto the site to ask about a ruling.
I'm very displeased with both the motivations behind this action and the manner in which it was handled.

Considering what happened to PJ, and the fact that Lesurgo closed the Vocal Minority thread in an obvious effort to shut us up..Craven getting fired for being 'heavy handed' definetely qualifies as the most ironic thing I've seen this year.
@sneaky: I don't want to start a crusade against anyone. But I see things getting worse and worse, with the current Staff falling down a slippery slope at a rapidly increasing pace. The way Craven was let go is just the worst(so far) in a long line of poor decisions. And the bias inherent in all of this is obvious. SapphireTri essentially trolls all of these threads, typically just trying to pick fights, rarely saying anything that is relevant to the topic at hand. But no one does anything. Hell, in the poll about PJ being banned, some account that is almost surely a gimmick makes the most trollish remark that I have seen in ages(not to mention the fact that it was sexually inappropriate). Not only does he suffer any recourse, but Kraj, a Moderator, commends him for it. It just seems to me that the Staff, instead of treating this like a community that they should nurture, care about, and respect, instead treats this site like their own little playground, committing any action that they feel like at a whim. It's just a little discouraging. Not only are they apparently not learning from the mistakes of SS and the events that led to the creation of this site, but apparently they're not even learning from their own mistakes. It's just like no one on the current staff has any concept of social skills. Clearly, if Craven *had* to be let go, which is debatable, they should have allowed him to step down gracefully. Sacking him the way that they did is just a disgrace. And Lesurgo's comment that he hoped Craven wouldn't step down after what they did to him is the icing on the cake...if he really thought that was remotely true, it only proves that he had no respect for Craven whatsoever. Demoting a person, especially considering the reasons why they apparently demoted him instead of just firing him, is just insulting, to both Craven and the community. And if Binary had any respect for Craven or himself, he would have stepped down from the position as soon as he realized what happened. Instead, he just stepped on Craven's corpse(metaphorically speaking). The worst part was probably this:

This leads to the inevitable question of why we did not contact you about this prior and ask you to change your behaviour. Sometimes, it is best to let people behave naturally and use that as the correct indicator of their status. We felt this was such a case.
So, instead of just approaching him with what was apparently a long standing issue, they set him up to fail instead. Honestly, how could anyone come to the conclusion that this is the correct course of action towards someone that is a respected leader of their community? It is ridiculous, pedantic, and extremely juvenile. The lack of social skills that this makes obvious is extremely unsettling.
I know that some foolish people think that I'm out to ruin this site, but that is just silly. All I really want is to see the site well run and maintained, and that is simply not happening anymore(again). When Goblinboy was in charge, I said extremely little, because Goblinboy did an extremely good job of running things. I'm honestly not even sure why it bothers me as much as it does, because I doubt that most people really think of me as part of the community here. But it bothers me just the same. Things could go extremely smoothly around here, but they're not, and the inefficiency of it eats at me.

SapphireTri essentially trolls all of these threads, typically just trying to pick fights, rarely saying anything that is relevant to the topic at hand. But no one does anything.
If you're feel so personally offended by his posts, have you ever tried reporting them? I know it's easier to take pot shots back and forth because doing so doesn't require you to click any addition buttons or anything (I mean, seriously... clicking the "report post" AND "submit" buttons after having to type up why the post is offensive in some way? That's no fun), but doing that in and of itself is not good for the community because all you do in the process is deficate all over a perfectly good thread (such as this one, which is supposed to usher in the new staff members, not rant and rave about the attrocities of a staff member not being able to emergency ban anymore and then that staff member's choice to leave once that ability is revoked). Rather than starting fights, especially in threads, you should possibly practice what you preach and show other people how to post for the benefit of the community.
If you compare your posts to, say, Azrael's, you'll see almost immediately what I mean.
Hell, in the poll about PJ being banned, some account that is almost surely a gimmick makes the most trollish remark that I have seen in ages(not to mention the fact that it was sexually inappropriate).
I'd like a link to this post if we're going to not do the same things we're accusing others of, because I definately missed this post.
Clearly, if Craven *had* to be let go, which is debatable, they should have allowed him to step down gracefully.
He wasn't let go. He choose of his own accord to leave the staff after being told his conduct was not fitting for someone in the position of Global Moderator and that he would be better suited as a normal Mod.
I hope you don't interpret this as a troll, because this is merely critique, but you seem to greatly exaggerate issues that either validate or invalidate your arguement. I notice this several times in the post I'm quoting from alone. In general courses of socially interacting, it's difficult to take someone or their points of discussion seriously when they consistantly make broad sweeping statements that also happen to overgeneralize, which easily makes anything in any situation applicable to your arguement. Additionally, when a majority of these points are presented without examples (at least specific examples, though I understand what you're saying about SapphireTri's posts), it makes it neigh impossible to actually communicate with you on any level.
Things could go extremely smoothly around here, but they're not, and the inefficiency of it eats at me.
Up until very very recently, they have been going pretty smoothly. It just seems that out of nowhere, a bunch of very loud individuals decided to start attacking staff members in hopes of bringing them down. In spite of much hand wringing, I'd still say the site as a whole has not suffered.
It is certainly something that Kijin, someone whom I have always criticized as being hostile and immature, responded in such a respectable fashion. Just wanted to point that out.
To address a couple of things specifically.
The post that I was referring to that is clearly nothing but trolling and is encouraged by Kraj:
As for SapphireTri..I have, in fact, reported at least a couple of his posts in the poll-thread regarding PJ. But nothing has been done, despite their obviously trollish nature. I credit this to the fact that the moderator for that forum A)agrees with ST and/or was friends with him when ST was staff and B)doesn't realize the importance of being an impartial observer. It is undeniable that ST is actually in a clearly trollish fashion in that thread. But apparently, whomever is responsible for that particular forum just doesn't care.
As for things going smoothly until recently, I'm inclined to agree with that. However, in my mind, recently would equate to 'when Lesurgo became comfortable in his role as an Admin and started imposing his will upon everyone'. I would say that the site has not suffered greatly, but is clearly starting to suffer, and such can only continue unless action is taken.
In a bit of a nit-picky note, it wouldn't make sense for me to exaggerate issues that invalidate my argument I do agree with you that I have a tendency to make generalizations, but sometimes, such action is necessary. And clearly, such a comment is not a troll. Thoughtful criticism never is.

- Along side with JayC we go varies good things added to the forum and pushed for a better way to deal with rippers/scammers, Added a well done auction forum still in its infantece, and Got Annorax modded and proved to be a good mod for the trade forums as he actually CARED for the forums. Also proving that members CAN change and become very productive.
-Reasons I stepped down AGAIN was due to medical surgerys, Stress of the surgerys(mental and Finacial), and stress of reg life falling apart and took a gracefull leave to prevent me over blowing and causing a disaster.

ANYWAY I'm done with you like an old rag doll to a dog. Feel free to rant how bad some of us were and are. Fact is I am still uneffected by this and all i want to see is the trade forum prosper... That maybe the only thing That I be sadden to see fall for all the work we put into it to get it up and fixed from the many problems it faced.
Also I know this site will bounce back... there is enough members that love it here and want to see it thrive... I hope you agree with me on that one at least...
I really fail to understand what all of that, especially taking into account the fact that it is somewhat illegible, has to do with anything. I didn't report posts where you attacked me for valid reasons, I reported two posts where you were just trying to throll the thread in general.
And yes, I agree that the forum can bounce back and can thrive, but that doesn't make it okay to be apathetic regarding current events.

It would actually appear to be quite a bit less sinister. 'Seds was on vacation for the last week while Krashbot has been missing in action for over a month.
As for the post you linked to, I do not see any evidence that it is from a gimmick. Nonetheless, I would agree that it is most definitively against the rules and the response is a little disheartening.
And SapphireTri, please don't take offense to this, but some of your posts can be reported based solely on the correct grammar and spelling rule. You may try getting Firefox's spelling tool or something of the ilk. It makes your posts a lot more clear and cuts down on distraction from the points you are attempting to make. Your last post in this thread is a good example of this. Did Cyan call you a 'trashy mod' in the past or did I miss that in this thread? What exactly is your point, either way?
I misinterpreted your original comment that the post was somehow a gimmick of ST, which it isn't. I wouldn't label the post in question a troll. Maybe spam, if we're back to the same kind of spam definition that has been argued as "way too much" frequently in this forum. The humor of the post is definately PG-13, where the most offensive term being used is "barebacking." The only trolling remark was "I'm not gunna read this whole thread." I'm not sure who exactly is being trolled by the remark. I personally found the post to be funny, if only a bit off topic and kind of unnecessary in the greatest scheme of the thread.
I was under the impression that a vocal whatever-ity declared that somewhat topical joking shouldn't be as heavily moderated. If you feel otherwise... well, that reopens a discussion I'd thought we'd recently finished.
Like I said in my previous post, it seems a very select group of loud people have decided to make some kind of staff-wide series of Vendetta Threads on this forum (or Vendetta posts, as many of these threads start out discussing specific issues individuals have and later fester into some kind of outcry for staff lynching). I really only read SYM, the Gutter, Extended, and occasionally get hardcore into reading Competitive Standard for month-long bursts of time as well as keeping myself up-to-date with staff topics. While there is the almost constant, "New posters with little to add always post in the Rumor Mill," I have not seen a greater forum decay aside from the thread seeding in SYM and the occasional issue related to one or two very specific mods based one one or two very specific actions taken against one or two very specific users.
Because of this, I am apt to believe that the site hasn't declined to any apparent degree, but that the forum populace is more comfortable (and often vocal) about voicing complaints on gripes and issues they have. I feel that discussion of improving the forum is never a bad thing, but that the forum is not particularly worse or better off than it has been at any previous point in time.
In a bit of a nit-picky note, it wouldn't make sense for me to exaggerate issues that invalidate my argument
I was going more for "confirmation bias" but the words wouldn't come; you catch my drift, though.
I really fail to understand what all of that, especially taking into account the fact that it is somewhat illegible, has to do with anything. I didn't report posts where you attacked me for valid reasons, I reported two posts where you were just trying to throll the thread in general.

What the **** ever you piece of ****. Do what ever drama **** ya want...
It was in a different thread, though in recent history, where I felt that sneaky and sapphire were unfairly attacking HKKID for no reason. My choice of words was unfortunate(as is sometimes the case..even I can lose my composure when someone that I respect greatly is unfairly coming under attack), mostly I just wanted to bring light to the fact that sneaky and ST's actions towards HKKID illustrated why I always felt that they were not capable enough as staff.
So you used a response to A post that looked like it had hidden intention itself to show how bad we are when you don't have any background on us. Way to assume too much and be arrogant about others....*hence the reason I hate you*
What the **** ever you piece of ****. Do what ever drama **** ya want...
Wouldn't this be an example of a troll?
As for the staff changes I don't really think Craven should of been de-globalized (what ever that's called), and was just wondering what were some examples of him not performing up to caliber to mantain his global mod-ship
Edit: also congrats to le_gambit for his moship which i think is well deserved.
I almost responded to you about that, Cyan, but decided to just ignore it. The fact is that your interpretation of that post is waaaaay off-base and your implications about me are unjustified.

Off-base how? The post clearly has nothing to do with the situation at hand, and is an attempt to poke fun at what some people took as a serious situation. It was practically a textbook example of trolling. I realize that the chances that it was made by a gimmick account aren't that high, that part was mostly me being facetious. By the post is *absolutely* trolling, by every definition of the word. The fact that you, as Staff, applauded and encouraged the post speaks volumes. The fact that you apparently don't know what 'trolling' actually means is even worse.
I just want to say that Craven's PM makes me think that the Admins are adapting a position of "damage control" rather than "problem solving" with regards to problematic mods. For example, when I was removed as mod (first time through), I wasn't given a heads-up as to my lack of activity; I was just removed. I think that if the mods simply gave me an idea of how badly I was modding at the time, I'd have still been modding at the time I resigned (the second time through).
My question to the admins is: what's with this policy?
What the **** ever you piece of ****. Do what ever drama **** ya want...
I understand that nan expressed his desire to let such posts to the forum's moderators, but there is no reason that this post should not be infracted for flaming by now. Mind, Cyan's not being the most lovable of personalities either, however, SapphireTri directly attacked Cyan with this sort of name-calling, which is without-a-doubt, a completely obvious flame. It really ought to be addressed.

@Cyan: Appologies for the insults. You can take it or leave it...
Cyan, quit leading this off-topic. Insulting and trolling SapphireTri has nothing to do with the topic at hand.
You insulted SapphireTri, Kijin, and Kraj as moderators and thus I cannot ever agree with you. Those three have been excellent moderators in their respective forums.
I have generally thought that the mod-hate going on around here was way overblown. However, I must say the whole deal with Craven is the worst decision I've ever seen the current administration staff take. I always thought of Craven, along with Seds, as the staff member who would actually listen to people here on SYM and make unbiased discussions with them, trying to do whatever he could to solve potential problems while rightfully rebuffing those who were in it for the drama. The site just got a whole lot worse without Craven's moderation, let alone his posting.
Lesurgo, I too would like to see what kind of reprehendable attitude Craven has had, if it's possible. Without it, I really think you guys dropped the ball on this one.
I've done this to someone before. When I was in a band, and we were having problems with this one bandmember, and we pretty much decided over a long period of time to ask him to leave the band. That maybe the only thing That I be sadden to see fall for all the work we put into it to get it up and fixed from the many problems it faced.
Also I know this site will bounce back... there is enough members that love it here and want to see it thrive... I hope you agree with me on that one at least...
I was going more for "confirmation bias" but the words wouldn't come; you catch my drift, though.

You are bringing this thread far, far astray from it's real topic, and there is no real reason to do so.
I almost responded to you about that, Cyan, but decided to just ignore it. The fact is that your interpretation of that post is waaaaay off-base and your implications about me are unjustified.

Your right.... Thus Instead of editing it to save face I just reported it and accept anything that want to do to me for that.
@Cyan: Appologies for the insults. You can take it or leave it...
You just gained a healthy amount of respect in my book to admit you were wrong in doing that.
Very mature of you, indeed.
A truly mature person would never do that in the first place.

You insulted SapphireTri, Kijin, and Kraj as moderators and thus I cannot ever agree with you. Those three have been excellent moderators in their respective forums.
Lesurgo, I too would like to see what kind of reprehendable attitude Craven has had, if it's possible. Without it, I really think you guys dropped the ball on this one.
