I have been a Magic the Gathering player the last three years. I have grown so much a a player, it is really incredible. I learned to play on my Xbox 360 using the notorious Magic 2014 Game that was given away free on xbox gold one month in late summer. When I first started I didn't really understand anything besides the complete basics. As far as I was concerned the guy with the biggest creatures and the most mana would win more often then not, so I was a mono green player all the way. I easily beat the game after defeating The Elder Dragon, Nicol Bolas,(I only had to restart the match 10-15 times) I was ready to get my hands on some real cards! Well School got in the way and I just kept putting it off thinking I would come off "super geeky" for pursuing my passion for this Game. Also, I should mention I come from a loving, but sheltered, Christian home. The sound of a card game where you summon monsters & cast sorceries to try to kill your opponent doesn't exactly sound that appealing to most Christians.
Well, one thing led to another, and on October 3, 2013 I broke my leg playing Softball in PE. When it happened I was in Shock, no literally, I went into shock. I couldn't relax any of my muscles. I was just praying that my leg wouldn't tense up so that my bone would stay the skin. You know I have always had thick, tough skin and I kid you not I had a scab on my leg after surgery were the bone had punctured all but the the 2 outermost levels of my skin. Well I found out I had also suffered from severe traumatic brain and neck injury. For an entire Quarter of my freshman year I could not do anything( Play video games, talk to people, watch TV, reading, listen to music, or even go to do anything else fun for that matter. Pretty much they just expected me to lock myself in a dark closet and do nothing, but eat & sleep. So I figure, when am I ever going to get a better time to dive into this game. So I go on E-bay and order over 7,000 magic cards for $55 delivered to my house. This thing came in about a 2' by 2' cube that literally weighed around 40 lbs. So I just got to work looking at all the pretty art and organizing them by covering the entire living room in cards so I could match matching cards together.
So I made myself and my Dad Decks, but it was a long while before we could get our hands some basic lands, so we just played without them using nonbasics like evolving wilds. Once I started playing my Dad(whom is literally a genius by the way), I must have beaten him at least a dozen times with the pauper mono green deck I made against the mono black deck I helped him build. To be continued... God Bless
