so here is a glimpse of what I am going to try running tonight. It's more of an experiment than anything else.
I think I may run a 1 of electrolyze over the 3rd Terminate. But I have yet to go that far down that path.
On another note, I really liked the Gurmag, Tasigur, Thoughtscour against red. Plus in the control matches we may just completely catch them offguard by boarding into a ore grixis delve deck.
I like Izzet Staticaster better because you can block and reuse the ability without costing you a draw step.
I do agree with izzet staticaster usually being better in modern in general and being awesome against opposing one toughness dudes with the same name,but was wondering if the dredge ability and the possibility to get creature's with 2 toughness in combination with dredging it back was better or not is all. I mean if I'm not mistaken we can dredge it back off of something like cryptic or electrolyze right? I'm not exactly sure because I didn't play when dredge was a mechanic.
Alright, so I've been debating this change for a moment. What are everyone's thoughts on izzet staticaster vs. Dark Blast. I am debating this because of running the Tasigur and gurmag anglers in the main and the fact that it can be recurred if milled with a thought scour while just dredging it back to hand can potentially fees Tasigur/snapcaster by itself.
Do you all think the idea is to far fetched to be realistic or do you think there is some amount of merit to it?
He may be good, I dunno. He has to tap and loot at least once to transform even if the graveyard is already full. And modern is a bolt format so I dunno how good he will continue to be if he is good initially.
I could definitely see the 5th delve guy being a problem, because there were times when I would have to snap a thought scour for more graveyard cards to be able to delve and still have the spells I wanted in my yard. I mean maybe we could consider a 4th scour, but then I think we should just not be playing cruel anymore and that's just not acceptable to me.
He was rather sour about it because the last two times we have played he has died because of one of Vendilion Clique taking his supreme verdict out of his hand the turn before I attacked for game.
so I went 5-0 last night all in all with the following list. I think I have found the core deck that I want to be running for now. I lost a single game last night and won 2-0 against everyone else. I was stillable to cast Cruel on 7 against every non-blue opponent and Tasigur and Gurmag do a hell of a job against burn.
So I beat ...burn in round 1,coco elves in round 2, Bant Timewarp in game 3, and jeskai Swans round 4. then after the tournament I played a GR tron match and beat him 2-0 but this match was probably won due to slightly bad luck on his part....None of these were even close except for the Naya burn match which was the only game I lost all night.

I wish we could know if 4 Delve dudes is ok though before I spent another $12 on another FOIL Gurmag. HAHA
Now I'm locking in at 5 Delve dudes... haha Sometimes; the decisions we make on 1 card VS another are just so damn easy. FOIL? Not Foil? Ok; done. HAHA
Yeah no worries...I have debated putting the 2nd swamp in my lit and losing urborg, but I like urborg as a way to conserve life by being able to tap my fetches for black and it makes casting an ultimatum much easier. Granted it is worse against BloodMoon, but I think with our delve dudes that's not as big of a problem as it used to be.
I still need that 2nd foil Gurmag...I did pick up a foil thought scour today though for $6 instead of $10+ which it is going for everywhere else..now I just need 3 more for a playset.
So I think I have decided on 4 delve dudes total with 24 lands for now as a test run...It also is going to allow me to see what works and what doesn't as far as the deck goes...so far I really like the synergy between Thought Scour, Kolaghan's Command,to get back any creature you may have milled that you really would rather have in hand and snapcaster to flashback the command for value and such. It really is what we was already doing just being done about 5 times faster. The delve guys have felt great, but any two in an opening hand without a thoughtscour feels like a Mulligan so I think four is the correct number for now. I will also say clique has never felt like it has so many uses...it can reset our own hand of a big spell if we are light on what we want and can still do all the things it does against our opponent and can take answers out of there hand before we drop a big guy on the field and it also let's us know what potential answers they may have which is always awesome.
Yeah we would be be better off if some were modern legal haha. Cards like Flashfreeze and Countersquall are really good against burn though.
The new hybrid list is interesting, I would want the 24th land and probably a 2nd Electrolyze if I was playing it.
I think you want a Damnation or Languish in the 75 for matchups where getting Angry is not enough lol.
Suggestions as to where to stick another electrolyze and a 24th land at? Right now I think I want 5 delve dudes, but maybe 4 is just correct as we still have ultimatum as a way to win. That would let us do a 2/2 split or Tasigur/Gurmag and have the 24th land.

well from the looks of it i can see why the thread name got changed. it looks like the grixis control list just with ultimatums and 1 more land. i do worry a little about the graveyard with 3 gurmag 2 tasigur and snapcasters, i worry about only 23 lands a bit. the draw you have should be sufficient though. other than that it looks solid.

I would like to Dispel the beilef that we need lie gain to beat burn.If you consider gaining 6 life against burn, think about what that means for the burn player.
It means you Negated at least two spells from the burn player. Since burn runs out of gas pretty quickly we can play the card advantage game and complicate their strategy with circular logic. We simply Daze them with our amazing Counterspells and finish them off when they run out of gas.
I used to think we needed life gain, but counter magic has proven far more effective against burn for me.
We would be much better off if any of these besides dispel was legal...lol. Now Tiny leaders...I have a bunch of random little 3 or less oddball counterspells.
