I proclaimed that i was screwed with many Opening hands and you advise to cut mind stone?
Sounds like a great tip (not so much).
And Scourge? Do i need another 3/x to beef up my squad?
Sadly this one doesn't really give me direct Card Advantage.
Instead i need to pay 3 over and over again.
14 Creatures were plenty enough. Even worse, tehy cluttered my hand many times.
An opener with a bunch of 3-,4- and 5-Drops is only reliable with a Temple or Mind stone.
i went for a 1-3 at my local playgroup yesterday.
Has been screwed very often and drew teh wrong side of my deck.
Round 1: BW Tokens
I mulled to 5. First i had 2 Lands, but no Spell below 3cmc, 2nd i got only 1 Land.
I've kept a 2 Lander w/o any real business at all.
Macht 2 i dropped Eldrazi's and he slowrolled and flooded out. 1-1
Match 3 i had to mull again and he had double Virtue into Souls + spectral procession.
I chumped for 2 turns but my lonely Smasher couldn't keep up with teh pressure. 1-2
Round 2: UWr Nahiri
I had to mull again. He suspended ancestral vision, but sadly my Strangler wasn't nowhere.
He drew into 3 Cards and killed me with Celestial Colonnade and snapcaster Beatdown. 0-1
His Vision resolved and drew him some removal, but that wasn't finally enough. 1-1
Match 3 brought down to trading stuff. He handled both of my shambling vent but Smasher put
him down quickly. 2-1
Round 3: Bogles
Match 1 she had a Bogle with Enchantments and beats me for 6 Lifelink evey turn. 0-1
Match 2 i saw only Creatures on her side and my Eldrazi's attacked relentless until the win. 1-1
Match 3 there was a Bogle and a bunch of enchantments. When she casted Rancor, i
responded with Anguished for Umbra and her Daybreak coronet were gone too. Sadly
she held a 2nd one in hand and beats me to death. 1-2
Round 4: UR TiTi
Match 1 i doom bladed his TiTi, but he followed up with a 2nd one. This one flips
as i saw no removal. I chumped some turns but couldn't keep up with a 7/8. 0-1
Match 2 i was droppin' Names and beat him down constantly. I took care of his creatures and
went for the win. 1-1
Match 3 i was on teh backfoot again (mull to 5, 2 swamp as my only lands).
I beat him with Smasher and Sorin in Game, trying to stabilize on 6 life. Awoken Horror
beats my, but i hoped to race him with Sorin + Smasher (i had no other outs). He finally brought me
down to 4, i stripped a Bolt from his Hand. He drew into a Swiftspear + Bolt which sealed teh deal.
1-2
Overall thoughts:
Teh Matches were i couldn't establish board-presence and apply pressure were horribly.
I feel teh need of always keeping a hand with at least 2 Eldrazi's to even get things going.
The hands with lingering souls felt super-clunky and it was the CArd that disappoints
me teh most yesterday.
I'm testing on a daily base and because of that put back Sorin, as it proved to be better than
Timely. My sideboard is tweaked towards permanent-removal (wish we had a 3-Mana Nevinyrral's disk).
The 3/2 split of IoK / 'Seize feels better and gives me more flexible side-in / side-out decisions.
Ok, so i've ran the deck to a 2-2 finish yesterday.
Round 1: BW Tokens
Match 1 he had a slow start and stripped my Sorin, Solemn Visitor.
I did Brutality and knew from there on that he had no Gas.
I drew into some Eldrazi and overwhelmed him. 1-0
Match 2 was literally teh same. He had Spectral Procession, but i traded favorably with Matter Reshaper
and finally overwhelmed him again. 2-0
Round 2: UWr Nahiri
I had to mull, but he was stuck on 2 Lands for a couple of turns. I couldn't handle Ancestral vision and he drew 3 Cards off it.
What to expect of 3 CArds? He drew into 3 Lands and finally couldn't keep up. 1-0
I had no board and was out of Cards. My opponent had quartered my sea gate wreckage.
He passed and i topdecked reality smasher ftw. 2-0
Round 3: Green Stompy
Here's where my luck ended.
Match 1 i was totally screwed. I mulled to 6 and was stucked on 2 Lands for a long time being.
I finally did TKS, but his leatherback baloth + aspect of hydra were enough to beat me finally.
0-1
Match 2 i was screwed too. I've mulled to 6 with a mediocre hand. He dropped threat after threat and i found 0 Removal.
0-2
I had no removal for TiTi and put out Spirit tokens and Strangler.
TiTi flipped and killed my with double mutagenic growth + Apostel's blessing.
0-1
I was pretty damned sure he had no Blood Moon, as he told me a week ago.
Now he had and i wasn't prepared.
Match 2 i fetched Shrine and dropped Matter reshaper, which hits for 12 consecutive damage.
He dropped T3 Moon and i was overall screwed. He bolted Reshaper and i found another one off of my deck.
Then came Bedlam Reveler and Titi on his side, which closed teh game in like 2 Turns.
0-2
Thoughts:
After these Matches i instantly switched teh following:
- 1 (of 2) Brutality
- 1 Sorin
- 1 IoK
+ 2 thoughtseize
+ 1 timely reinforcements
As you can see - 2 Discard, + 2 Discard, - 2 Lifelink-Card, + 1 Lifelink-Card.
I had teh feeling i needed more B-Discard and IoK had been a bit underwhelming.
I'm really looking for something else instead of Reinforcements. Sorin was too low of an impact,
so i switched him to my sideboard. Isn't there any relevant 4-Drop for us, kind of Siege Rhino?
here are some initial thoughts on teh past couple of comments:
1st: Selfless Spirit
BW Eldrazi is a Midrange-Deck in it's purest form, so therefore it's mandatory to avoid situational Cards like Spirit.
One thing this deck should be build around is, that as many cards as possible must be good topdecks.
Spirit doesn't fit that bill. The thing that it does add to teh deck, it's that it prevent a huge supreme verdict blowout.
It does not prevent terminate or path in a reliable way - that's where Spellskite really shines (a card
i highly advise if you need a reliable 2-Drop). It even slows down valakut, the molten pinnacle.
If we are concerned 'bout Anger or Verdict, i expect it's better to not over-extend into it or strip those Cards wiht Discard-Spells.
I always board a burrenton forge-tender against decks with Anger. That's totally fine.
2nd:Surgical Extraction
Yeah, i know it's not blowing anyone out of teh match.
But hell, we ain't got fulminator mage or lost legacy (costs BB and therefore hard to cast).
So there isn't anything that i could really expect in this place. Memoricide and stain the mind are way too slow.
i'm new to this deck too, but not new to the format at all.
Tidehollow Sculler looks great on paper, but i ensure you, after some test matches i concluded that it is super-clunky and totally off-curve.
blight herder is inferior to reality smasher because Smasher closes Games much faster and forces 2-for-1's the same way Herder does. matter reshaper is a 3-of for me right now. He is alright, providing a clock, chumps and cantrips.
Here are my own findings with teh deck:
I've cutted vault of the archangel because i always died before i got time to use it.
For now i'm running 3 Quarter + 1 Wreckage.
Sideboarding is tough at times.
I recently lost bluntly to Affinity. Match 1 he dropped his hand Turn 1 and killed me Turn 3.
Match he spell pierce'd my Stony and killed me Turn 3 again.
Does anyone board surgical extraction against Bant Eldrazi?
I found this MU tough to board.
Another question:
Do we have something really great against Uwr Nahiri?
Another Planeswalker or something else?
Round 1 i crushed Infect. Inquisition of kozilek and strangler plus Souls were Beatings. 2-0
Round 2 was UWr Emeria. Match he literally folds to Relic of Progenitus. Match 2 he was able to handle my RiP and goes off wiht Sun Titan shenanigans. Match 3 i had much Business, but no Grave-hoser. He goes off with Titan / Saheeli-Combo. 1-2
Round 3 i kept a greedy 1-Lander and lost w/o any more Lands. Match 2 i was stuck on 2 Lands and lost against Blood Moon. 0-2
Although i've lost because of being too greedy, the deck felt great overall. The Sideboard needs some tweaking, but that's no Problem at all.
So i ran this to a 2-0-1 finish at my local playgroup.
I won't go into detail here, because it was 3 Midrange MU's in a row, so nothing really super-interesting here.
I won the grind every time, simple as that.
tidehollow sculler did his thing and was likely ok.
Even teh Mana requirements were good, i had no problems casting him. thraben inspector has been good too, so i'll stick to it.
Sideboarding is a bit weird. That's something i need to figure out.
Relic of Progenitus felt useless quite a lot of times (even it's cantrip didn't outweight this) and the Discard-package has also been far from being perfect. I changed teh whole build and it felt much smoother. I wanted the deck to be more proactive and cutted the Inquisition / Thoughtseize entirely.
A playset Tidehollow Sculler came in.
It's by far teh worst Card in teh Deck (no doubt here), but it's much more proactive tehn IoK (which pops up in a lot of useless scenarios).
It enables Wasteland Strangler, which is fine too.
Next step i decided to cut Relic of Progenitus entirely.
My reason is, that it's ok'ish, but not great overall. Especially since Strangler is a 3- to 4-of and the only Processor left, i had no doubt in dropping Relic.
I instead opted to go more Creature-heavy. I found a 1-Drop that cantrips, can never be 1-for-1'ed and is able to chumpblock. Thraben Inspector fits teh bill.
Long speech, here's my (local Meta specialized) Variant of BW Eldrazi:

Be sure to run some amount of collective brutality, it's the real deal.
Your sideboard looks solid, cut the timely reinforcements for blessed alliance or brutality.
Both are faster and much more versatile. I found also ratchet bomb to be super-useful in my side.

Literally 0 relevant Decks play Flats ATM.

I've tried to create a build that is more stompy-like wiht some utility and disruption.
Therefore i've cutted EVERY Card that doesn't impact the Boardstate.
