So my LGS has no combo except for KCI and no Storm or Infect either. People play either control decks like Blue Moon, Jeskai, or UR Thing, midrange like Jund, and creature tribal like Humans or Elves. How would people approach building a Sisters list for this kind of meta? I have the Modern Event Deck cards and I can splash for either Black or White.
I would start with 2 Eidolon of Rhetoric try to slow down tempo, spirits are great blockers spectral procession or Linguaring souls .
2 worship Thalia, Heretic Cathar , maybe a fog effect instant vs elves, 1 mana tith to keep them honest, Kambal, Consul of Allocation vs control.
Well thats my 2 cents worth. Most of the match ups I have had vs those decks have been 60-40 in my favor. Jund and Elves being the harder match ups. If elves does not explode early it becomes a huge grind out match with SS wining due to huge life shield and better flyers and a monstrous Cat.
The problem with making the pridemate sneaky is that your adding a card(s) that only help the pridemate and weekens the rest of the decks synergy. Best answer I found was elspeth, knight-errant to give him jump. Another thought is that you could give him protection from a color for a turn.
That seems good late game, but I struggle with the short game. A mana sink that early? Might be better playing mentor of the meek or bygone bishop.
It does nothing on turn 2 when it enters, Makes the math bad for when you need to cast something later. "Do I cast or buy a card?"
In standard (which I do not play it could be great I guess), but might be awkward in SS.
out of the last 33 matches I got to 30+ life 8 times. Peaked around 27 a lot. i find the 8 spirit sorcery work well to this end.
Ranger is a fair catch all to pull out what you either need or do not wish to draw. i have been told deck thinning does not work well, but it seems like the best way to fix the sisters deck.
I try to avoid hands that only have 1 line of threat. I find that takes the first bullet fast.
@wolsom; sorry for not responding I went on Vacation for the weekend.
The decks listed above are good examples of black splash, Bobo also has a good fun deck listed in this forum somewhere.
This is the last deck I played. wins-tie-loss 7-1-3 out of 11 games. wins vs burn, mono G stompy,U tron, bant spirits, 2 jund, humans loss to 2 eldrazi stompy, elves, tied bant control
Soul Sisters 3-9-2018
I was testing Sorin/vault out, I wanted deathtouch for the stompy matches. The mana is a bit too light in this deck.
Remember the goal is not to get to 30 life but to beat your opponent. It becomes your opponents job to keep YOU from getting to 30 life.
The storm match-up, I try to delay their game as long as I can, I sideboard in all the disruption (RiP Eiddlon), the goblin plan sucks for them, so I put in settle the wreckage (you can always settle your own spirits).
I tend to SB out HoTP in the match ups where it does not have meaning. If I know my spirits will be used as chump blockers and there strength will not beat down my opponent's creatures I will out 1-2 of them.
If my opponent is playing creatures that are close or equal to mine with an HoTP I will keep them in. The human and spirit decks the creatures are close at the start so I leave them in and race.
the honor with a ton of spirits can work well as you have seen with the B/W token builds. Some times you can force a game by dumping a lot of white weenies into play and forcing you opponent to board wipe them. Lingering souls with honors really hurts this play.
How familiar are you with the deck? Serra Ascendant can be good on its own late game, and it eats a removal early game, because your opponent does not know you are not on the Martyr plan. If you are on a plan that returns cards from GY then Serra is a constant threat from the grave.Yes a 1/1 lifelink is terrible, a 6/6 flyer lifelink for 1 mana is just good most games.
Which is why it sees play in many decks.
I have splashed Black and have had some luck with that but it is such a light splash (4 cards). Heavier splashes of black can give you some hand disruption for the Decks that SS has trouble with.
I would recommend at the 4 drop slot elspeth, knight-errant she is a house. Giddeon Ally is good also, maybe better with the anthem theme.
Do you have a plan for the meta? How will you face H!, 5c Humans, and spirits?
The deck is a bit resistant to these threats naturally unless you change it drastically. Cheap returning blockers are good here.
I have always had trouble with the stompy style decks. Encourage black splash for these match ups.
I do not feel flagstone is needed or worth it. It is a hedge against not using ghost quarter on your opponent. It has interesting interactions with its self and legendary rule.
@wolsom. Ive tried blossoms, and its is a good card free stuff is nice. It moves the deck into more of a token deck, because if your on black your running lingering souls w/ spetral procession. Which is fine. but your game play changes a bit. Honor the pure does not work well with black cards. The life loss is picked up later from the sisters so it is not nearly as bad as you might think. Blossoms is a good card.
Whitemane lion plays really well with the monument. You could try 2 of those while you wait for the Champions of Auriok. I have also ben very impressed with Blessed Alliance. You could try 2 in SB. It is a great answer to boggles and other aggro decks.
So I've tested this mostly only against Aggro, Midrange, and Control, and it has great game against allll of that. My issue will of course be with Combo and Big Mana, hence the SB options. Tempted to find some space in the Board for Damping Spheres, but I still feel like the MD might need some tuning, not sure...
nice take on the deck, how come 3 of whitemane lion and not a playset? I have fiddled with a momument sisters deck but feel it is too slow (either you get the synergy or you twiddle waiting for it).
I am interested in how the deck works for you and hope to have you post here. I consider the deck to be a forward moving archetype of SS, not a new deck but a variant.
@kizzel, the martyr is good early in the game when you have a full hand of white (so it can sac and you gain life) forcing your opponent to deal with an early Ascendent. Proctor lists do not need this to happen as they can pull the martyr later from graveyard and do the simialr lifegain repeatedly. SS late game usually lacks a strong hand to profit from a late game martyr (unless you run Birds). An Ascendent is good most of the time and can become a threat pretty quickly even without a martyr. It also means that an ascendant is a passive threat just sitting on the board because you life total is going up and your opponet sees this; forcing them into some kind of action, either attacking into you or trying to remove a 1/1 life linking wimp.
They are both fetch able with ranger of eos which is why that card is popular in the deck.
Very interesting List.
Ive found Sisters to be fair against the tier 1 Meta. I can pull wins out and only struggle with Stompy style decks. All the other decks you have to force them out of their game plan and comfort zone. I always thought of the Lifegain as a mental distration for the opponent to deal with, as a side effect we gain life and stay in the game. Gaining life is not the goal of the deck as much as a synergy to get to where you need things to be at. A pridemate that can wrestle an eldrazi, a swarm of weenie spirits that nip to death, ect..
It seems like you meta is full of black.
Why only 1 Legion landing? I soldier of the pantheon relevent? Obviously this list is working for you but it seems weird. High land count no mainboard kill spells.

I feel blessed alliance should be a 2 of. But i have boggles in my meta. It does great work as a removal in the aggro match-ups.
