Doubling is the way to go, ESPECIALLY if you are going to use foils. The inner sleeves never really wear out either, besides possibly getting a little cloudy. Totally 100% worth it.
I've drafted a Cube that was triple-sleeved, and the cards do stay VERY flat, even though the corners on the 3rd sleeve are sharp and take some getting used to the poking. I have considered doing it to mine, for sure.
Recently, I traded a card out of my Cube in order to change it to a German foil, and the condition of the card (which I had in my Cube since it was released in Lorwyn block) was stunningly good. The inner sleeves really do wonders.
KMC Mattes are gross; the backs get VERY easily marked every time you shuffle. I bought a pack once for a PTQ and never want to use them again. For that reason, I have zero interest in anything matte.
My dragonshields seldom if ever break, and usually they only do that after years of Cube play.
The quality control on Dragon Shields has gone WAY up in recent years. I never used them either because of those issues, but once I switched to them a couple years ago I will never go back to anything else.
I think what you're trying to say is that mere mortals can't handle the awesomeness of these sleeves. I agree. We can't all be as pimp as flutterguy, and as soon as we come to terms with it, we can figure out the (distant) second best alternative.
I dunno, man, you ARE talking to the person that single-handedly exposed the United States Magic market to perfect-fit sleeves, a MUST for any pimp!
I was actually about to post the Cube Vault case as well from kickstarter. I'm considering contributing, and you all should too. Check out the link above.
My Cube liked living in AZ WAAAAAAY more than OK or GA, that's for sure. If I ever sell it, I'm sending it to Arizona to live for a while beforehand so it will be nice and flat again.
AZ is only really miserable for a couple months (late June-August), really hot for a few (late April-June, Sept-Oct), and then delightful the rest of the time (November-April).
You just have to be sure not to leave your cards in your car in those hot months, because the temperature in cars will bend your cards permanently, especially foils.
I'm thinking about doing the whole double sleeve thing with my existing dragon shields. How much did your perfect fits cost (do you have a link to the product)? How much larger was the cube afterwards compared to being single sleeved?
and the most confusing thing imo - how do you flip double sided cards with a double sleeved cube??
You reach in, pull the inner sleeve + card out about an inch so you can see the name, and then put the sleeve facedown on the table. If you need to read text, pull it out more so you can read it.

I use descriptive language. Assume that I'm being nice and respectful. (I'll tell you when I'm not.)

I'm glad I introduced them to the United States

In KMC Supers, I have used silver and purple before on my Cube years ago, and you cannot see through them.

It isn't as bad as you're making it out to be.
