Okay, sorry to necro this thread, but I finally picked up an Aetherling, and have been wondering: I know it's good, but how obnoxious is it? I cut Wurmcoil Engine from my cube since it was such a no-brainer easy win condition. Do you find Aetherling leads to feel-bad wins, like True Name Nemesis can? These "annihilated my opponent and he couldn't do anything about it" comments make me leery...
Not really, no. I mean, even in mono-durdles MODO cube, I recently sided it out because my other finishers were better for that matchup.
Yeah, I agree, it has been stellar so far. Even just going "attack for 4, blink" has been pretty frequent. I know that there's only room for so many finishers in cube but I like it more than ones like Jwar Isle and Palinchron (besides, if saying that it provides no value unless cast for 7 mana, can't the same be said of Palinchron if using the "It just dies to <insert removal> argument?"
Did a bit of testing with it and quite happy with it. The funny thing is that at first, I assumed that it costed 5UU with its blink ability costing U and it wasn't bad even in that scenario. It was really hard to kill and a pretty big annoyance for the other deck to deal with but even when cast at 6, if the other deck didn't have an immediate answer, it was typically one of those "Well, now what do I do against that thing?"

Yes, for sure.
