Those 'Horizon' duals (Horizon Canopy, modern Horizons etc) lands are great for us as well. I've had games where I drew all 4 copies of Ramunap Ruins and no other lands and still didn't feel like the pain was an issue since we are always the aggressor. Some number of Red Horizons are going to great.
Hey guys, what is the probability of Goblin Ringleader, Goblin Matron and Goblin Lackey appear in Modern Horizons set?
It's tough to speculate but I don't think any of those cards are too powerful for modern. If there is a goblin theme in the set I can't see why they wouldn't include some of these. Goblins have always been a part of mtg lore and are a fan favorite for sure, so I'd say there is a chance.
I took a look at the list and without having played it I can't really understand why it would be different from the goblins lists I usually play in terms of facing off against midrange decks with push/bolt/path (I assume those are the spot removal you are worried about).
It's an interesting cross between goblins and affinity, but I don't have experience with affinity either. I've played against goblins and affinity a fair time with control and I can say that control has a lot of spot removal and beats up handily on affinity while getting wrecked by goblins. Maybe some of the new tech I've seen out of affinity can help you; experimental frenzy .With my control decks I can never beat affinity when they resolve frenzy.
White is not great at drawing cards, but red is decent at it. I guess my only suggestions are frenzy and light up the stage. I would think that frenzy might be a little too expensive cmc-wise, but if affinity can make it work I can't see why your gobots list couldn't make it work.
I guess we would need to see a list to understand why you are getting blown out by spot removal because in my experience spot removal is always lackluster against me; none of the threats are individually powerful enough to warrant spot removal and all of our creatures are so cheap that even 1cmc removal against us never wins more than 1 Mana on the exchange and often trades even on Mana.
The only card advantage that comes to mind for me is light up the stage, but I can't really recommend it because I haven't tested it yet.
I was having trouble with mid-range (specifically GW a couple years ago) as well; once they stabilized with a couple creatures I just couldn't do anything. My solution was to experiment with cards that ran interference with the opponents blockers.
I haven't looked for similar types of cards from the last year or two of sets, but if these are the kinds of cards you might be interested in you might want to run a check on the last few sets as well.
It also depends what the current midrange decks you are worried about look like. For example, Goyf decks need something more along heelcutter/chasm/expertise line while hatebear style decks get pretty wrecked by the forked bolt/savage alliance effects. The instant cards that damage the opponents whole team are especially potent if you can set up a Legion Loyalist trigger alongside them.
Postboard there are even more enablers, admittedly I haven't test any of them out of the board, but while having discusisons about this deck in this forum for over two years, people have boarded the following enablers from time to time:
I have always felt that this deck was a few cards short of not needing subpar filler cards in the main, perhaps light up the stage is the answer to that problem
I'm not sure this is playable, but I guess it's worth testing since it's similar to Frenzied Goblin which is playable from time to time.
The upside is if your opponent stabilizes the board you can still keep chipping away for 1-2 damage a turn (with a Lord, perhaps), the downside is it doesn't really enable situations where you could alapha swing into 1-2 blockers like frenzied Goblin can.
Curious about Ramunap Ruins. I suggested it in Goblins awhile back and no one took it serious despite it having almost no downside in my own testing. I only play around 20 matches or so before starting up with a different deck, but it seemed ok. How has your experience been? How often are you activating it? How often do you feel the pain from making red is effecting your games?
Hey, people, what do you think about Risk Factor?
Could this card give us the Card Advantage we're looking for?
I'm going to try it as a 1-of. It's very powerful since if we can cast it end step it's pretty likely we can fully utilize all the extra cards because our average cmc is so low, and I doubt they can afford to take 8 damage. However, 3 Mana spells are a tough sell in these decks since we want to be dealing most of our damage before turn 4 anyways
Obviously need to test it, but I've been looking at blazing volley/Electrickery type cards to break board stalls for awhile (take a look starting around pg260)and this does the job while also providing a body. Wish it had haste instead if first strike, but what can ya do.
I don't think it's unrealistic to hope for matron reprint, or functional reprint - they just printed a bunch of tribal creature tutors in Ixalan (or rix, can't remember) and we've had harbingers in modern forever.
I don't think Warchief fits what we've been doing, but it'll definitely be interesting to see if anyone can put together a 'big goblins' list. Lots of good options out there; been awhile since I sleeved up a Goblin Ruinblaster!
Has anyone else purchased 4 copies of the rack to side in against ensnaring bridge?
Its a good plan against bridge, but I don't think we're going to be seeing much Ensnaring Bridge in the new meta; Jace will dominate Bridge strategies and BBE decks are going to be pushing Kolaghan's command numbers up. Jace also makes a strong case for grixis, which also means k command's stock rises.
@hellakevin -
So the more I've been playing with firebrand the more I think he's better than fanatic for the way my deck is built. It feels really good to have so many guys with haste. It feels like I'm not behind removal or sweepers because I'm back in the red zone so quickly.
I really like firebrand too, for a lot of the same reasons. I can't see myself abandoning fanatic altogether, but to be fair our decks look very different despite having a ton of overlap.

This is an excellent card. Excited for Gobbos again!
where are you getting your spoilers?

Why do you think it seems more realistic? I feel Matron seems more realistic due to their recent printing of Forerunner tribal tutor creatures in RIX.
I mean, I think I would prefer Ringleader if I had to choose one to be reprinted - good ways to bounce back from sweepers is what we need.
