Dreadbore is still pretty good unless you want to tutor heros fall with teachings even then its hyper inefficient. You dont get any value killing a walker at instant speed, if I am paying more that two mana I want to kill two things at least.
Crypt incursion is certainly a decent SB card I have been looking at, it can gain you a ton of life for its cost and even hit some persisters! I usually just resort to Batterskull and Tribute to Hunger to try and get some life gain going that also effects the board.
Chapins new list looks great, It always seemed that 26 land was not enough and the relics are the exta mana bump the deck needs, you have so much draw and card power that not getting enough mana is probably the easiest way to lose with this deck.
I'm curious as to how relevant steam augury will be in here. It's great card advantage, but giving your opponent the choice will result in a lot of cards in your hand that won't do much of anything. I think if you're playing augury, you'll probably want 1-2 Mystic retrievals in your deck so your opponent doesn't just bin your ultimatums and leave you with no win conditions.
Hahah then just play gifts in the first place like I said. Seriously really enjoy the combo with Mystic Retrieval its quite powerful in this deck. Basically take Cheons build cut 1 cruel and one teachings for a single gifts and retrieval. Mybe cut a snapy or cryptic for a second gifs. I dont know why every acts like all opponents start the game with a DRS and Ooze in play.
Rx303 (tb303?) Nice deck why not post your lands? You see my actual problem with inquisition is the mana to cast it turn one in our primarily UR deck without the proper fetch lands. I don't want to bolt myself or play scars lands that don't let me hit cryptic or cruel on time. River of tears is probably the best bet, but it can cause some awkward situations as well.
Xjosh I am not a fan of Chandra you basically pay four to just be another removal spell later, it would be much better to just play some draw spell to get more removal in hand. I do like jace but I like to play at instant speed and gifts ungiven and thirst for knoledge offer suburb card selection as well.
Spot discard is amazing in the mirror , it's better than counters post board if you're using them in the right matchups but not as good in the maindeck. Gatekeeper is actually pretty legit. What would white have over black besides resto angel and path to exile ( in terms of control cards)?
White has better side board and hate cards, but yes the point discard is great vs control and combo. Cruel is certainly better than Revelation at 7 though we are bending backwards to cast it. I just feel the skull still deserves stronger incentives to be a control color in modern.
This is like his old extended deck with the gate keepers, he also had chromox an Jtms in there though, man that deck was sweeeet. I dont think I like talisman, all it lets him do is cast t2 spell snare... and hurt himself more. gate keeper is pretty cool but snapcaster kinda obsoleted him. Basically black needs better control tools printed, besides point discard (basically worse than counters) it has so few advantages over white, red or blue.
I have tried seas it isn't terrible, some lands certainly are a problem, its a blank vs some decks, but you can just run actual red LD spells in the board any how.
Serum visions just does not do enough. You get a random card and effect your next draw. Remand and even condescend at least effect the board we can not spend one drop of mana in the early turns for marginal dec manipulation. Sure you can hold it but now you have a cantrip instead of an answer in hand, even think twice is better as it provides actual card advantage at instant speed. The number one effect I am looking for is filtering cards already in hand. There is a reason brainstorm is soo good in legacy control decks and even though it costs 3 Thirst for K is a better brain storm.
As for my gifts ungiven plan "telegraphing" and yard hate vulnerability, you don't HAVE to search for the Same thing every time. Heck I just searched 4 lands once against a DRS turn 4. Not every deck can interact with the stack and yard, the upside is so powerful it is easily the best instant speed draw spell. It's not like we would heavily rely on it like the dedicated gifts decks.

Yea that whole being able to switch gears and tempo kill people is why bolt and snapy are so crucial to control in this format. Bolt snap bolt is 8 damage! Tarpit IS the best man land ever even if it is more fragile and does less dmg I love that it activates for less than colonnade.

Ok more polished version of my gifts trinket hybrid. The green splash for loam was just awkward and not good in enough match ups, certainly won me some games though.
I feel like this pushes the envelop of play options but maintains a fair bit of constancy. May want to just cut a gifts dismember and shadow (nihil is also a great hate cantrip) for another cryptic bolt and leak.
I think a very light 4th splash is an option since we have to play all colored sources for cruel. I am testing the gifts ungiven version with green JUst for life from the loam, still working out the lands though. Every one is terrified of blood moon and rightfully so but are the only decks that play it affinity and twin? Annul is a great side board card for us and good against both strategies in general, maybe this is a 4x SB. I am also testing out prophetic prism now and certainly like signets in thirst versions for the ramp and blood moon protection, and coloring a couple utility lands.
I didn't say it wasn't competitive just not top tier, honestly it seems well positioned vs uwr and pod. But hoping to jam this in Dailies and 3-1 all the time is very optimistic.
One thing I have to note is this deck NEEDS Engineered explosives" target="blank">Engineered explosives! I beat bogle twice yesterday because I have a virtual 3 copies. Pithing needle is also insanely helpful!
I shouldn't need to list again why these cards are so good and fill a lot of holes in the deck. Every time I try and play without the trinket package the deck feels so much less flexible. I have mized so many games off just nihil spell bomb main vs combo, or needleing tec edge man lands, or wasting affinity and bogle with explosives.
Well it is not a top tier deck or else every one would play it like the primary 5 decks, probably better in single Qs or paper. Many of the best palyers in the world are in those dailies, so entering them without a proven decks and average skill will yield frustrating results! You have to identify what you were loosing to and why. More explanation of specific problems and the list you were using would be a big help. Tez is deffinately not any better. It is also hyper difficult to play control in modern, but that's the fun and challenge.
I would say play UWR, Tron or Twin if you want something more competitive with a strong late game and still some interaction.
