Well not really... some Barnes and Nobles carry these after all. Seriously folks, check out your local chain stores, music shops, and booksellers... you'd be shocked to see who carries MTG that you've ignored before.
Cards at Walmart are stocked by an independent contractor, so Walmart employees probably can't tell you anything. It just happens whenever the person that does it comes in.
Half the time they don't even show up to stock them on "release day." Many of these independant contractors got in trouble over the years for putting out things too early because street dates weren't easily printed on cases of things and the employees didn't know any better... So the product gets shipped slightly later so it doesn't happen.
Actually happened back when I worked at Target in the early 90's... a magazine/card contractor put out a children's coloring book for a new hit summer movie that gave away some major plot points including what the big monster looked like... when that information was still VERY much top secret.
Like I've said three times before... it wouldn't be a shock to see them being used at the GunSlinger events at Nationals. I'll post if that's the case the minute I see anything while there. The last dual decks were spoiled the same way (though I think it was a PTQ or something).
Yeah I'm planning on hitting up my local Target for this. I know too many game shops who are already in panic mode over this product.
Thinking that rotation is going to make people lose interest is silly... there are many of us casual players who never play T2 and who wouldn't be caught dead sinking huge amounts of money into one card. Two planeswalkers for your cube or EDH decks alone make it worth the time and effort to track it down.
Actually most big box retailers that carry anything MTG related will have them up by the registers, as they are considered high theft items. Look near baseball cards, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Bella Serra, Trading cards, etc... I've seen Wal Marts that carry all of the above and not a single MTG card. Depends on the market I'm guessing.
Excuse me my noobishness but what are Gunslingers? And why do the play precons at tournaments?
At large events like Pre-releases and PTQs, WOTC employees and some Pro players play one-on-one games against the public whatever format that is requested. It's not part of any tournament, it's just a fun way for players participating in the event to meet the celebs and have a fun intimate setting to play. If you can beat the pro/employee you get a free booster. Normally they have all of the dual decks with them to allow for people who didn't bring their own deck or want an even playing field. At nationals two WOTC R&D members will be there, and it's a pretty good guess they will be slinging with these decks. It's just a fun way to build excitment and get the buzz going.
I'm going to guess we'll see the Gunslingers at Nationals playing these decks (as the first time we saw PvsC was from Gunslingers). I'll do my best to post if I see them!
Any idea if the deck list for this duel deck hs been out?
I'm actually a little shocked we haven't seen much for spoilers yet on this... but who knows, maybe we'll see something after GenCon, PAX, or Nationals. I remember we saw the first glimpse of the last one at a Gunslinging Event.
I don't understand how Tezz can be so un-useful. I look at that guy and I see a (slightly) better Garruk Wildspeaker. Better color, and he works w/Artifacts, which are just so easily abused.
Haven't actually played with him yet but I can't understand how he's a $5 card, or ever could be.
Very excited to be getting two of these in a few weeks as I currently don't own any E's or T's.
He's very useful... I mean you get to play a Lotus Bloom without Suspend! But you can get a playset for about 25-30 pretty easily on ebay right now, and he'll likely drop after roation about 25-50%.
Yeah I don't see Elspeth dropping below $15-20 anytime soon. Tez might be a $5 card in a year, but this set is well worth the cost of admission, even without knowing what fun reprints we'll get with new art.
When you guys are saying "got mine confirmed," does your store actually have them on hand yet? No, they don't... if this duel deck is for what ever reason more limited than the last as they say... then we might see the same thing happened as with From The Vault Exiled. Sometimes stores preorder X and only get Y... They won't know until the product shows up, and then they have to start telling people "no, sorry." It's happened before!
WalMarts don't offer presales, because quite frankly there is no reason for them to. Most "real" game shops SHOULD be selling them for MSRP... unfortunately there are many that aren't.
On the plus Jeff, we know that major retailers like Wal-Mart, Target, and Barnes and Noble carry dual decks. It shouldn't be TOO difficult to stumble across this product. They likely just want to spread the love because they know this will be saught after by all types of players, not just the casual crowd.
Considering Target and Wal Mart rip you off in other ways... who's really clueless?
Anyway... glad to see people are able to find them at MSRP!
