aight, ☺☺☺☺ it. im bookmarking this thread. you guys whining about the power level will have to eat some crow when it turns out some of the uncommons and even commons are the backbone of standard for months.
If you're referring to me as one of these people, I posted like 4 times that the commons/uncommons are the worthwhile part of this set. Multiple legacy-worthy spells and such. The *****ing is about the rares - that apparently are made to push Commander? Seems likely.
I am beginning to think that 8pierce is just a bad troll. If you're so interested in "power level" at the expense of everything else, why are you posting on a relatively casual board like MTG Salvation?
Yes
I have better things to do with my time than troll, but I was appalled when the full spoiler went up. I was impressed with the initial spoiler when it was at 40-some cards. I was looking forward to seeing the other cards (especially rares/mythics) and then when they were spoiled and I realized how bad they were (in my opinion) I looked at the forum and laughed when I saw people were impressed saying it was "maybe the best set since ravnica" and similar things. I thought maybe more people would be concerned with playability and not just flavor...
I was answering your question... if you don't consider the flavor you'll never understand why things are the way they are, Mr. Spikey.
I LOVE flavor, don't get me wrong, but its hard to see past the... poor quality... of some of the cards in the set. Darksteel Relic? I mean COME ON. I'm starting to believe you collect cards for their pictures or something.
8pierce: also keep in mind that commander is coming out this summer, so some of the cards are gonna be geared towards that, like it (/play it) or not.
Isn't WotC making specific cards for this anyways? I really don't think there are cards in NP geared towards multiplayer anyways. Do you have an example of what you mean? ....Why would WotC taint a new set with cards meant for a scrub format?
And you opinions and predictions should be taken seriously why?
Take it or leave it but I'd take my predictions about power level over someone who is evaluating the set solely based on the flavor behind it... Its just my opinion, but I have a feeling eventually the general consensus will be that this set's power level (for rares specifically, commons and uncommons seem above average or at least on par) is below average.
??
Blighted Agent is an unblockable infector for 2 mana. Extra scary with a sword.
Glistener Elf is a 1 mana infector
Also potentially interesting, but also potentially overcosted are
Viral Drake (proliferation is a nice bonus) and Phyrexian Swarmlord (assuming you got some infection in already, it won't be easy to stop the swarm if this lasts til the next turn)
Blighted Agent would be good if it had troll-shroud. Elf is legit but will have no home in a tier-1 deck in standard most likely. And the other ones are limited fodder imo.
I might buy a playset of uncommons/commons because thats where this set is at. new edict is awesome, new counterspell (hope to god its obvious which one) will be great in legacy, tezzeret's gambit will see play.
Those were suppose to be in NPH but they moved them up to MBS to make them standard playable.
Also for a lore wise wouldn't you want your best fighters on the frontlines? The war happened in MBS. NPH is the aftermath. You don't need those godly warriors post war. Phyrexia's purpose has shifted to shaping their world and building it to their desire.
And a Vault Skirge 1/1 flier infect for 1 colorless isn't good? I don't know what the hell is anymore. Turn 1 inkmoth > pay 2 life cast Vault Skirge > pass turn. Turn 2 drop land swing in with both OR cast duress, inquisition, and all the other cards that rip ☺☺☺☺ from my opponent's hand. You put your opponent on a fast clock and disrupted their hand in the first 1-2 turns of the game. Tell me where is this bad?
2 mana "Lifelink" flier is good in an infect deck? Tell me where this is good.
are you mentally retarded? they printed a 1/1 infect for 1.
So you're willing to play a deck in standard with a 1/1 infect creature? Good luck sir. Maybe in legacy. And like I said, theres some good commons and uncommons and then the rares are severely disappointing. Go build your jank decks and then cry in the threads when you realize JtMS is still in standard.
Infect was Phyrexia's way of expanding...it has now won the war so it no longer needs infect as a ways to fight between the factions-Phyrexian oil does nothing to those who are infected.
Ok? And this makes the cards better how? Silly Vorthos.... This set seems to have very limited applications for Spikes. Theres some good uncommons and commons and like 1/10th of the rares are playable.
I can't believe you people if you aren't trolls. This set looks awful. They wasted rare slots with praetors and chancellors... There are no new good infect creatures (in the set where the creatures with infect are supposed to take over... really???), it went from Skitheryx to Crusader and Vatmother to absolute **** infect cards. Bad set is bad.
