Armor is different from toughness in that it is more effective the more sources of damage there are. Toughness is like HP, while Armor is like... AC? Heh.
Anyway, as far as I'm concerned, this ability does indeed work and is basic enough so that everybody can understand it easily (as long as you specify sources so that combat damage doesn't confuse people).
I've argued that point to LSK on several counts, and he is just not agreeable.

It was an interesting idea changing my mechanic's name from 'Ranged' to 'Projectile'... I like it better, awesome idea...
And although it isn't my idea, I'd like to vouch for "Armor X" being removed from the wall of shame.
The Armor mechanic works in a way that Armor 1 would make it immune to 10,000 Timmies all blasting at it... Armor 2 would make it immune to any number of shocks. For example:
Armored Knight - :2mana::symw:
Armor 2
1/1
This card can survive as many shocks as you can throw at it in one turn, plus take on an entire army of Grizzly Bears and live to tell the tale. However, it will die to one Trained Armodon or Lightning Bolt.
It's not the same as adding toughness in that cards like Charisma and such care whether the creature was damaged. Plus, it would be a nightmare to keep track of a creature that got +0/+X with Armor X whenever it was dealt damage.
I just got this ability perfected in another thread... It's a mechanic for ranged weaponry in Magic...
Before you all accuse it of being the same as "First Strike" take note that the ranged damage is independent of the creature's power (So a squirrel with a Bazooka deals 1 melee damage and 500 ranged damage...)... Also, the target to be dealt damage is not the combat target (laccolith-style)... and the ability goes before firststrike (Like flanking)...
Ranged X (Whenever this creature blocks or becomes blocked, it deals X damage to target attacking or blocking creature.)

I liked this..
Poison X (Whenever this creature deals damage to a player, that player gets X poison counters.)
