I'm not a big fan of keywording. This has to stem from some marketing strategy. By titling an ability, it will help us make a connection to the cycle or theme from the set, and, you know, buy more cards. What other possible reasons could there be for creating Radiance or Sweep?
I buy all my rares online. I just don't open packs anymore. It's much cheaper using Ebay, for my purposes. But then again, my environments of choice are Extended and Legacy where the cardpool is affected much less by the new sets less.
I can't stand the frames either. They are ugly as piss. I really, really hope Wizards isn't planning on using those on any future cards. I actually liked the Planeshifted frames.
And on a final note, I love Mirrodin block. I like artifacts, so obviously the block is right up my alley. Lots of fun cards, interesting design. Much better than the sets released since, IMO.
Thanks for posting that info, DF. I will definately be there. The thing I can't tell is if you need to register on Friday or not?
@Ravus: I was there for a PTQ on 1/06. There were 150 people there, it was alot of fun. I normally play in Sioux Falls, SD, though, as its just an hour from where I live. Also, I used to live in WI. Went to school for a semester and a summer at UW-Stout in Menomonie, WI.
Yes, hello all. Hello to all the new members! And the old that are returning! I'm curious--Anyone planning to attend GP Columbus in May? And on a related note, what parts of the world do my fellow Izzet hail from?
What about you guys? Do you like foild any more than regular cards and do you play with them? Maybe you find them a touch annoying? (Although now that they only use up a common slot, it's a better deal for sure)
I trade off all my foils, generally upon acquisition. Any time I've won a FNM, I've traded the spoils that night. Foils are worth signifigantly more than a regular card and I'm willing to play w/o the fancy bling-bling. These Rewards card that you get in the mail are another jackpot. My friend received a foil textless Wrath and sold it within the day for $50. I did the same thing when the card was Hypnotic Specter, for $20. I don't see any reason to hold on to valuable cardboard when you're as broke as I am.
I mind loosing, quite a bit actually. (I'm a spike) But that's why I try to never fold prematurely. It's very rare to be able to pull an advantage out of folding, and many games are given up prematurely. If your opponent got lucky with a topdeck, why not see if you can't as well? Also there's that little bit about showing some personal restraint and not acting like a friggin' baby. I do at least try to do that. Not to mention that losing is a learning experience that no true spike should rob him or herself of. You should know exactly why you're loosing if you want to win as often as possible.
Learning from your mistakes should be the spike mantra! (I too am a spike.) In order to win you need to devote some time playtesting vs. a gauntlet of tournament tested decks. And your going to lose some of those games. You have to be able to take losses constructively and use them to improve your deck or your skills as a player. You can't let losing a couple of games get you down.
AsianInvasion, I have an idea for lifegain in red: Zuran Orb.
Dragon Claw would work, and Sun Droplet would be awesome.
I really want lifegain that fits the deck, not just Healing Salve types of cards.
Got any ideas?
Back in the days of Kamagawa I played my mono-red FNM deck vs. a female friend of mine's mono-red deck. I had Dragon's Claw on my sideboard, and brought it in. Suddenly her Glacial Rays were useless. Eventually, she started crying.
Do you guys have any sore losers in your playgroups? I have friends that can get really pissed when they lose. I know I don't mind losing, although I obviously would prefer to win. I've had one person throw their cards when I played a Pithing Needle. Or sometimes people get really mad about mana screw. Come on! It happens to all of us.
I love Extended! It's my second favorite format, after Legacy. I play Affinity which plays both blue and red spells, but I'm not sure Thoughtcast, Atog, and Shrapnel Blast are very Izzet.
You know, I hadn't connected the two as similar in my mind, but yes, I do quite hate that as well. There's a more than warm pit in the center of the earth ringed about with unholy tormentors for those types of people.
Yes, Dante would find some ironic way of infinitely torturing them. Perhaps playing cards until the end of time with others who share their habits, and all endlessly losing?
lol, i used to play magic inside my middle school, but nobody ever stole anything. Heck, we played tons of card games there. Magic, star wars ccg, star wars tcg, any game we could get our hands on. We even played warhammer 40k a few times, but then found it was WAY too hard to transport models to and from school without some serious breakage.
I just got Dawn of War for my comp... It rocks. Thats why i havnt been on much, lol. Anybody else get any funtastic games?
Yeah, when I was in middle school, we played all the time too. We tried during the study hall and the teacher didn't like that, so he asked us to bring him all the cards. We put the real cards away and gave him all our basic land. He never did give those cards back, though.

I cast my vote for this one.

@ DF: The GP is in Columbus, OH. The format is Legacy- my favorite. Any good places to camp in the area?
@ MSC: Your English is great. I've never even been to Europe, but I really, really want to.

ADHD!:D So I assume you don't like the poker players who constantly play with their chips either?
