UWR is a control deck but i havent seen it around in a while
because its not good. if you want to play some sort of control deck, this is the thought process:
1. man, i need the format's gate keeper cards. lets play thoughtseize and inquisition. okay, that puts me into black.
2. control would be sweet with some card advantage. lets run bob.
3. what would be our utility creature a la snapcaster in these colors that let us grind out advantage? oh, deathrite shaman. lets put that in the deck as well.
4. green wouldn't be miserable to run with shaman. lets us gain life with shaman at the very least. what else is green that's pretty great? wow, goyf and ooze seem like solid cards. goyf just happens to blank (whatever nonexistent) aggro decks too, and ooze happens to gain life and poop on graveyards. neat. and they can eventually turn into giant monsters that beat in?! no way.
5. well, now that we're running shaman, we can potentially have some killer turn 2 plays. what's the best thing we can be doing in GB on turn 2 for 3 mana? oh man, Liliana is neat. resolve one of her, and things get really hairy for the opponent!
6. so our removal is a little lacking. abrupt decay only gets you so far. what additional colors can be potentially splash? fetches and shaman make it a little easy for us! we can go white for path or red for bolt and terminate. well, that's entirely up to my personal preferences.
moral of the story: GB is the control deck of the format. and it happens to be midrange. it just doesn't play like control people are used to. its proactive rather than reactive.
Whats particularly strong about the winner's deck is that he can not only switch strategy from a combo to a control deck, but also that noone can predict when hes gonna switch strategies. I think this makes him particularly hard to play against(not to mention he and the other finalist were both quasi-unstoppeable before facing off) since people tend to prepare for linear strategies, but how do you prepare for a flexible one?
yeah, that's the best part about playing decks like that. your opponent never knows which way you're going to go. typically, tempo decks tend to swap between aggro and control, being able to play either role in any given game. but i guess for the modern meta, its better to switch between combo and control simply because you need a "i win" button.

yeah, 2 things stood out to me. 1. how underrepresented white and blue (to a lesser extent) were represented. 2. how scapeshift was nowhere to be found. they were so wrong about valakut, that it makes me question what else they're totally off with from the initial list. (cough)

strengthen either control or tempo. they both have + match ups against combo.
anywho, twin against living end, tron vs jund in the semis. i really think twin can take down the whole thing. especially the tempo twin version that's being played right now. tron in theory, wins against jund, and twin poops on tron. lets go!
top 16 is not exactly a surprise either. living end is the only real "aberration," as everything else is expected top tier. blue and white underrepresented again.. sigh.
if you're playing a fair deck against jund, and they stick a shaman for several turns, you've probably lost the game/it becomes incredibly difficult to win.

despite twin supposedly taking a beating, tempo twin is everywhere online. i think its second most played to affinity in the last few dailies they've posted lists for.

the first modern thing when i saw nykthos was death cloud. but we'll see. i don't think the set gave us that much for the format. the next set however, with its designers, may give us some super things.

only thing that was borderline playable was anger of the gods, which helps red decks poop on pod more. otherwise, i don't expect devotion to make a splash. i think black would be the most playable devotion deck, but even then, its main hitters are at 5cmc, which is way too high for modern.

twin runs a fair amount of basics.
in other news, hopefully twin it to win it takes it down. they never showed his list, so i wonder if he has blood moon in his board.
