I'm sure that even Richard Garfield would admit now, if he knew the fate of his game, that cards like Ancestral Recall, the Dual Lands, and ante cards were mistakes. And you know what? That's ok! We all makes mistakes! I'm not criticizing the developers for it. It was especially hard to balance the game when it was young. At the time, those cards seemed perfectly legit. But pretending that everything was perfect back then, and thinking that any change to design and development since Alpha has been detrimental to the game as a whole is a mistake.
Are their problems with the game now? Yes, of course there are. The game is 20 years old. The audience for this game stretches from 10 year olds who only want to play with dragons, to veterans that only play Vintage. The fact that the game is healthier and more popular than ever is a testament to game, and even if people will never admit it, to the people that make the game.
So to the people who are constantly clamoring to put wasteland and the original duals back into standard, and pretend that they are not overpowered (or at the very least, destroy valid design space), I am thankful that you aren't working for WotC.
I just got pissed that you defined those cards are mistakes when you're just someone who has grown up in another enviroment and see those as the "omg old broken cards, lol T2 win format joke" because that's the narrative they like to pass now to not have to admit that they're making mistakes NOW (oh this card is broken? because of fast mana. Oh this creature is broken? Because of old enablers). Those cards weren't mistakes, they didn't make any format any less unfun, and if anything all the best formats i've ever played had them in it (Extended till they rotated out, current Legacy), where you had the most variant display of decks and of strategies (how funny that monocolors deck were more common back then than they are now in current formats, as i always played monored in extended for years and it was viable, and legacy has 3 tier-1 monocolor strategy currently, but duals too good yeah), where good creatures were not the only focus of the game and you had to compliment them with good mana denial to compete with control, where combo was actually something you had to keep in mind for your sideboard, and where people maindecked disenchant because the field was THAT wide and you had to be prepared for everything.
Where bombs were far and inbetween (due to better counterspells), and most games were attrition games with many more choices to be made, especially in early turns (because of how they were more compressed compared to now).
Where cards like Show and Tell or Reanimate were perfectly fair card, before WotC decided they had to print every creature imaginable because "it's funnier this way and the broken cards are always the one we did before". Did you even notice how maro tend to always hype the next set that is to be, and then he criticized the old set that came out even if he hyped it exactly like the next? Rinse and repeat. See Dragon Maze, once hyped to be the next best thing, now it's "too complex" and they fixed their mistakes in Theros. Not to talk about how red and black were colors back then, but sure, broken formats with broken cards.
I enjoy playing with new cards as everyone, but this stance of "old cards were broken, because we've been said so" is ridicolous. No card is broken in a vacuum, it's a just a shifting in policies and priorities from the designers that make you believe so.
They were mistakes in a world that has no hate for non-basic lands, like modern magic. In eternal, they're perfectly fine, as eternal see plenty on mono-colors decks, and see a more varied representation of decks that any standard format has ever seen, and comparable only maybe to Odyssey era extended as far as i remember.
Defined mistake by some of the current game developer is probably the best compliment you could make for those cards. Those are the designer that made artifact colored, and made enchantment lose the only things that made them different from artifacts, being continous and not able to turn off (differently from artifacts that originally never worked if tapped, as Garfield designed them as machinery, and machinery don't work if turned off). Those are developers that abide by the rule of "cool" and don't let the game evolve, instead they try to incanalate all the design to arbitrary rules of (4 turns to win, people must be able to cast spells, creatures have to be in every deck).
They wouldn't give a triggered Time Walk ability while Strionic Resonator is in standard. With that version of Medomai and SR you go infinite.
? No. You can't attack on extra turns ever, so it doesn't change anything to have a strionic resonator down. You can't go infinite period. Maybe with something like Phyrexian Doppelganger copying it after attacking, then recurring nightmare, nope don't work either.
Yes, Basic Land I have to assume, and one you do control otherwise land hate wouldn't be active against it, also if it can't enchant a Plain, then you would not be able to play it turn 1, which would be a good thing I think.
If it had to enchant a mountain it would amazing for flavor. Bit less for power level, but it's not like it would ever replace Swords in legacy anyway. And even with "enchant mountain" it would be played in Standard thx to Ravnica's duals.
If it says "Enchant land you control", then I'll most likely be playing one of these in modern UWR-control list:
If you don't need to remove your opponent's creatures, you can always cast it on Scalding Tarn or Arid Mesa and then target your own ETB-creature (Snapcaster/Vendilion Clique/etc.) After that you just crack the fetch land and do something nice with the returning ETB-guy.
If it'll say "Enchant basic land you control", then it's just worse than PtE.

Being an aura and triggering ETB twice is a decent drawback. This is substantially worse than PtE (non-instant, dead against certain decks, open up for 2-for-1 etc...), not to talk about Swords.
I also always thought that white should have more enchantment based-removal, because they fit nicely the concept of "leaving for a reason" differently from "just kill this ****". If the reason to leave disappear (in the case for Swords, the reason is implied, the creature stop fighting and live the farm life, in case for Path to Exile is unclear and the card feel pretty bad from a flavor standpoint and much less white than Swords was), there's no reason why the creature couldn't reappear too.
Could chained to rocks say something like enchant land you control and that land doesn't untapped as long as its enchanted?
Why should it? It's pretty balanced at W. Pacifism for W isn't that broken. This is better because it doesn't allow them to use activated abilities, but it's worse because it trigger ETB triggers when it get removed. It's also seriously worse in Modern (Ghost Quarters) and eternal (Waste).
