Exactly. He said on stream he had luck with the pairings, but I struggle to see how 2x Dredge and RW Control (Nahiri, Ensnaring Bridge, Blood moon) is easier than Infect, Affinity (now with 8 colorless blockers) and Jund.
I'd MUCH rather play in an Affinity/Jund/Infect meta as I feel 40/60, 50/50, and 70/30 against that field - rather than the abysmal 30/70 I have against Dredge.
Apparently a Smuggler's Copter faerie list just went 5-0 in a league. Copter makes sense in here since we run so many creatures/manlands. Sprite also counters bolt/path to protect the copter and snare counters terminate/lightning helix. Our discard protects it well enough too as well as the looting allowing us to get rid of inquisitions in the late game.
Welp, I really want to try this and I really do not want to buy Smuggler's Copters.
Hey all! I've been lurking on this forum for the past few month, and decided to finally make a post and ask a question I haven't seen discussed lately. What's up with our Golden-Banana-Boy, Tasigur? Some people were posting lists with as many as 3 main board, and the general consensus I saw was that he was at least worth 1 mb slot.
Now I understand Kalitas fills a very similar role of being a big body, and adds a lot of extra potential by exiling creatures, lifelink, zombies, etc. Ive noticed our humble hero Anthony Huynh(mtgADB) has replaced his one Tasigur mb for his Kalitas, but I'm not sure banana boy isn't still worth one mb slot.
What does everyone else think? I've subbed out one spell snare for mb Tasigur, and am otherwise running Anthony's exact 75. Btw I love swords over Mistbind. I definitely prefer the control route over tempo, and Mistbind is probably still excellent there; I can't say. However, the flexibility of dropping a sword for 3, holding up counter/kill spells, and then equipping the following turn, is very strong.
Also, does anyone know of a consistent way to get in touch with Anthony Huynh? I left him a Facebook message a few days ago asking his opinion of Tasigur, but haven't heard back. I know he's said he's been busy lately, but idk if he even checks Facebook lol. Thanks in advance for the discussion guys!
Tasigur is fine as a 1 of. The only issue I have when playing Tasigur is that I like playing murderous cut over him since our deck doesn't put many spells in the graveyard.
I agree - we've only got so many slots for cards that rely on the graveyard, and the max we can really do is like 4/5 - so you've got pick between Snapcasters, Tasigur, and Murderous Cut. Right now Snaps and Cut are in favor but if something changes I can see going back to a Tasigur standard. I've personally liked 1 Tasigur main, but realistically Kalitas does what Tas does just better, even though he can't come down as fast. If you're looking to play UBx and drop fast Tasigurs and play the protection game then Grixis Delver is where you want to be.
Hey everyone. So I played against storm yesterday for the first time with Faeries and it was not what I expected. What's the best way to beat this deck? Is it just graveyard hate and early counters?
I don't have my sideboard fully settled in yet so I just ended up bringing in all of my counter spells.
You need counters and early pressure. If they're playing the Thing in the Ice ascension version then Engineered Explosives on two is pretty good. I'd pull removal as well post board. You MUST put pressure on them while disrupting because if you keep a hand of all disruption but no win condition they'll eventually draw out of it.
I'm thinking of taking this list to a GPT, thoughts?
Anyone care to share some sideboard thoughts and tactics? It's the part I'm really struggling with.
I'm currently running a 1/1 split of Relic and Grafdigger's Cage in the side, would you guys say Grafdigger's is better atm? Or maybe I could add a Surgical Extraction?
Another issue is land hate, how many of you Faeries pilots play cards like Tectonic Edge or Spreading Seas?
Hey Treach! Good to see you here.
I'm currently on 2 Cage + Nihil Spellbomb and I've been pretty happy with it. I don't think 2 pieces is enough but 4 is probably too many. Cage is the best at what you're looking to do right now.
We're in a pretty rough spot with the land hate to be honest. The amount of times my 1/2 non-mutavault colorless sources have kept me off Cryptic or Kalitas mana has been too high to count and I ended up cutting my ghost quarters for more colored sources. 5/6 colorless sources is just too much strain on our colored mana requirements. As for Spreading Seas, I've never run it in this deck and I don't know that I think it fits too well. Sideboard slots are extremely valuable and a situationally useful cantrip doesn't really seem like where I want to be.
Why Appetite for Brains? Generally if I need to bring in extra painless discard I'd rather have access to Duress.
I personally don't like having no way to sweep large creatures and as such I've liked 2 Damnation in the board. If you're really into Flaying Tendrils then maybe just replace one?
Other than that it's really difficult to see what you need without seeing your list or knowing what your expected meta looks like. For instance - does your meta have tons of Bogles and Infect? Then your spellskites are justified. Does your meta have a ton of burn? Then your Dragon's Claws might be justified (I personally like things like Negate or Kalitas against burn WAY more than dragon claw IMO).
Antony's new list mislabeled as U/B sword. It is Faeries pretty much without Mistbind and towards his more controlling ideas. I would love to see Damnation in the MB.
Way less faerie synergies but still looks really powerful. I kind of want to try out a list like this.
I don't think they are way too less. Just the Mistbinds which we already expected him to drop anyway. Still 4SSS 4 BB, 2 VC and 4 Muta.
I don't really like the inclusion of swords. I always found it hard to use them in Fae and they were win more, more often than not. I would prefer mainboard mass removal.
I just mean that on a scale of heavy on faerie synergies to light on faerie synergies, this deck is on the farthest end of synergy-light that we would still consider it a faeries deck. You can reasonably expect to play quite a few games with a list like this where your opponent doesn't even know that you're playing something other than a UB midrange list. But yes, still definitely a faeries deck.
The decks deepest on fae synergies are ones that include Mistbind and Scion of Oona. Just my .02.
I like the swords. Abrupt decay isn't super popular in the format right now, and they allow you to take over a board that you've been able to stabilize - something that I've often wished for in my Fae lists (running out of gas once I've stabilized the board - not having bolt stinks sometimes because of the lack of reach). I don't know if it's going to be correct for every deck build, but I look forward to trying them out.

Hi guys, im picking the deck after a few months and I was thinking about trying Collective Brutality main replacing a disfigure. Anyone had success with it?
Seems like it could be good as the 6th removal/6th discard/lifegain splitcard (Im playing 3 Inquisition 2 Thoughtseize and 1 Slaughter pact, 1 Cut, 1 Go for the throat, 1 Dismember, 1 Disfigure).
Collective Brutality is a pretty sweet card but I don't know that I'd actually want to replace disfigure for it. Black is in a weird spot because we have a wealth of options available to us at 2 mana but we have very little quality removal available at 1. Being able to interact on turn 1 can be pretty crucial sometimes against things like Infect or when you need to bolt the bird.
I think if you run AV in the main the card is nutty, even without AV its good. It allows you to convert extra cards (like extra BB's) into cards. Infect is really the main deck where it is SO much better. Against Burn Brutality is insane, versus decks where you do not want disfigure Brutality has text. It is at the VERY WORST 2 extra BB turns. I think the card is GREAT! I have been testing 2 main and really liking it.
I'm *definitely* on board for Collective Brutality and I'm excited to pick up some copies - I just don't know if the cut you want to make for it is Disfigure.

Congrats to our players who were in GPs! Even though you didn't win, I'm just pumped people are bringing faeries to events.
I played a 90 person PPTQ yesterday (featuring people such as Joe Lossett and multiple GP winners... Southern California is competitive) and punted pretty hard in round 1 and lost to Affinity and Storm nut draws the following two rounds to drop. Oh well. The punt came in round 1 when I was up against big Zoo - I'm holding a mistbind clique and I have a mutavault available and I pass turn without saying please stop on Upkeep - opponent jams through to draw step (I had cliqued him twice already) and topdecks a bonfire of the damned for lethal. Wooosh! First comp REL with this deck and saw nothing I really prepared for or had tested against, but I guess that's just how modern is currently. I sat next to PLENTY of incredible players on the lower tables who just saw bad hands or bad matchups. Just need to keep practicing!
In regards to that new 'storm' deck (pyromancer's ascension + thing in the ice) - what do we do against that? I brought in engineered explosives x2 and a countersquall and negate while shaving some removal out, but he was able to fight through 2 early thoughtseizes - the deck seems REALLY strong.
G1: I keep him off threats till he is at 2 life staring down a mutavault. He Draws Ulamog exiling Vault and another land, I cryptic counter Bounce Vault. Replay vault and he plays wurmcoil. I draw bad removal spells and Die.
G2: Same thing, I keep him off threats and have perfect knowledge of his hand. He slips in a Thrag to threaten my Ashiok and make it hard to race. This is where I think I messed up, I have a clique/ashiok on the field and 4 mana, he has a Tusk with a land and a mystery card in hand. I attack with Clique, play bitterblossom and pass. He tries to kill Ashiok and I tapout to kill tusk. He slams the ugin he drew and I die. I should have traded Clique for thrag holding up Negate but I go greedy and punished. This deck is very hard to play, it takes some getting used to.
0-1
Round 2 Jund:
G1: We trade resources and he resolves lily. Thoughtseize for visions decay for blossom and GG.
G2: We trade resouces but at the end we are left with Liliana versus 2 tar pits and a vault. He draws and slams Blood Moon. I die.
0-2
Round 3:Abzan Delirium
G1: He draws 3 lingering souls versus my BitterBlossom that eventually gets decayed. I get overwhelmed and die.
G2: He draws 2 lingering souls, A liliana the last hope and a Distended Mindbender alongside 2 fulminator mages for my tar pits. Liliana is hard to beat let alone souls and fulminator. This game is closer than the last because I get aggressive with Mistbind and Creeping but Siege Rhino pulls him out of range of the Clique. I was actually impressed how long I was able to hang in versus multiple souls and fulminators.
0-3
Round 4: Andrew Cuneo on elves
G1: Cavern of souls + 2 lead the stampede and being on the play is to much.
G2: Flaying Tendrils
G3: 2 Damnations and a Bitterblossom take over the game. I concede with a lethal swing because he can cash and I can't.
1-3
Round 5: Majors Abzan list
G1: Multiple lingering souls into Lili seal the dead
G2: Super close game and I think another punt. We trade cards and life till we are both at 4. I cliqued him last turn so I know his hand it Tasigur/***/***. He has a goyf and 2 souls in play. I have a Clique, a tar pit on the field, a tar pit in hand and a damnation. I attack with tar pit and pass. He draws and slams Rhino and kills me. It might have been better to Damnation there. Neither line beats the 2nd Rhino of the game but I think Damnation and then double tar pit next turn is a safer line.
1-4
I ended 1-4 but I feel like I learned alot. Lingering Souls is an issue for this deck. Thats why I really want to try Scion of Oona. I know the buddy who lent me the deck told me it was bad but I feel like I want to figure that out on my own. It saves Bitterblossm from Decay/World Breaker, Mutavault and Clique from Ulamog, creatures from trading with souls and increases the clock. I also want to try collective Brutality, with Visions we have extra cards and Brutality has been impressive in every deck I have played it. I also flooded a fair amount so down to 25 lands I go. This is the list I want to try tonight:
Ooh rough beats - sounds like you got a lot out of it though.
The anti Jundy Abzan card I'm going to try and run is Sword of Light and Shadow. Most lists aren't going to run more than 3 Abrupt Decays and can really only expect to see 2, and we overload Abrupt Decay pretty hard. Playing a late game SOLAS makes Lingering Souls tokens look terrible, and recurs your threats. Also helps a ton against Rhino, opposing Kalitas, Olivia, Terminate, Path, etc. Paired with Mistbind it's not too hard to have at least one turn where your opponent will be completely tapped out so you can cast + equip.
On your manabase - are you purposefully not playing the fourth Polluted Delta? I can't help but think I'd rather have that over the fourth Secluded Glen.
On lingering souls - I've also found Engineered Explosives to do some work against ANY tokens - it also hits the multitude of 2 drops in the format (killing 2 goyfs for 2 mana is great).
How was Hero's Downfall?
Let us know how your testing with Scion goes! I still have my doubts, but it could work out.

Or Copter, tons of other removal, V-Clique, Discard.. honestly this card seems incredible here.

His Countersuite looks pretty similar to what most of us are running lately - in no way is remand gospel.
