I think the most interesting question is what is the future of SCG and Modern based off of the amazing success of Richmond. If SCG decides to divert some (or eventually all) of its resources from Legacy to Modern we would surely see even more Modern growth than we have already. Legacy would die off quickly and this might lower the cost of some Modern staples...unless the Legacy players made the switch to Modern.
Any way you slice it I see Modern as the format of the future for WOTC.
Anyone else get the feeling modern is turning less into "Which pro/team do you like?" And more into "Cheer for your favorite sports team, aka Archetypes?"
That is the way it should be I think. I don't know any of these pros from Adam. A few of the most popular ones I couldnt help but learn the names of like Chapin and Vargis, but other than those exceptions how would a normal person feel any connection to the players? Now the archetypes are a different story. We all play the archetypes, and we have love for our favorites and hate for our enemies. There is plenty of drama that can occur between battles of certain archetypes for they players of those decks. This is what we like to see when we watch these matches.
Also I did the math for my zoo thread, .23% (rounded up) is one person in day 2. Meaning 8 rax got 6 players into day 2.
Wow not bad at all, I wonder how many people were playing it on Day 1. Probably not many, I bet you would see a very high percentage of the 8Rack players on Day 1 made it into Day 2, it's a very high performing dek. Meta assassination at its finest!
Would you ever consider dropping Bridge for Waste Not (I'm guessing that the answer is no, but I am just curious)?
I don't see it happening, Bridge is just too powerful here. Bitterblossom just exacerbates the opponent's problems with Bridge. My whole army can build up and fly right over the Bridge as if the effect doesn't even apply to me. It's insane.
I guess that you were right about how people would adapt to playing Bridge/Bitterblossom lists.
Bitterblossom was a gigantic pick up for 8Rack. I've been saying for a while that I think the card fits way better in 8Rack than it does in UB Fae. Waste Not would have to perform really well for me to considering dropping BB for it.
@Valanarch: Nihils is running Bitterblossom. Hes playing something nearly identical to the list I have been crushing Dailys with the last couple weeks. I think he changed up a couple utility lands, but other than that I think we are very close.
Nihils is currently 8-1. The guy who played 8Rack on camera finished a respectable 7-2. Nihilis is playing a highly optimal version of 8Rack. The guy on camera was playing with Pox which a lot of people find sub optimal but there is no clear evidence one way or another. Personally I do not play pox.
As I wrote in the 8Rack thread, I'm legitimately shocked that Lapse or any of the deck's other pilots haven't been talking about that feature article yet.
I would have seen it earlier but I was off winning my poker game for the second week in a row. They may have misspelled the name but at least they didnt call it Mono Black Control this time hehe. Nice article. I wish they would show a different match up, each time 8Rack was on film it was fighting Pod, which is not out best match. I wish they would show it tearing up Twin or UWR or Blue Moon.
Most importantly, 8Rack is currently being played by one of the regular posters in my primer thread and hes 8-1. He will be in a nice spot on Day 2. How freaking cool is that?

I was thinking the same thing dont worry. That call was total BS.
That is BS, he missed a trigger to gain himself life...and loses the game.

My little home actually has a meta share at a GP...Huzzah!
Rofl that's awesome!

UB Fae...I just don't know about it.
