I'm wondering how 1 or 2 of collected company would work in the deck. I find it works almost the same as Carrion Call but its better in that we could get infect creatures with abilities instead of 2 1/1 vanilla infect creatures. abilities in blighted agent or plague stinger.

I don't think the pod matchup is so bad we need to play 4 cmc spell. I just don't see us saving up on mana for that whilst applying some form of pressure.
i shoved one damnation in for the heck of it in todays tournament, sideboarded a 2nd. it came up twice against delver and boros aggro, both times it put the damage race in my favor.

I piloted my BG list to a top 4, could of top 2'ed had I not made a play mistake against pod games 2.
round 1 delver, went 1-2 against them,
round 2 white wheenie, i flew and pumped over him both games.
round 3 was against a grixis deck, both games didn't cast anything to interfer with my pumps or first turn glistener elves.
round 4 was merfolk, he didn't have any flying merfolk both games and I managed to flying in for lethal poison both games, despite a very close damage race. got a kill with my single become immense
round 5 was rug, I managed to get this guy as he tapped game 1 for a hellkite, leaving me near dead at 2 life, but open to attack with nexus and pump it to lethal without interferance. game 2, he makes a similar mistake going for lethal with his hellkite again and I blessing my plague stinger for red and block, following turn I fire off become immense for the win.
round 6 was pod, won game 1, game 2 should of saved my only blessing for my opponents reaction, instead I went for a lethal wild defiance pump tapping out and my opponent dropped a destroy spell stopping me from winning, killed me 2 turns later, game 3 he had everything he needed perfectly and killed me with a seige rhino.
Savage punch didn't show up very often tonight to make or break games, but I had several instances where it would of been welcomed. I'm thinking of taking the wild defiance out for the sideboard and puting in a second savage punch and a 4th might of old krosa.
the pump and protections spells need some balancing ingeneral. might need a birds of paradise more than anything else.
-----------------
against pod I was wondering if it might be worth while to sideboard damnation? i know this might be a wierd choice from the sound of it, but once pod gets there creatures set up there is little to no chance of recovery and sometimes no chance of out manuvering them. the one play left from the way I see it is we would need to wipe the board of creatures. having inkmoth nexus in our deck makes me think this play plausible. worst case senario is it leaves inkmoth nexus racing a 2/1 kithen finks.
additionally I do wonder if blue green infect would get similar results from aetherize

i' running a bird just to up my chances for a turn 3 cphyrexian crusader.
---------------
i'm still on the fence about the Hunt the Hunter. its only for pod? or is there another match up it is good in, mostly its a bullet against tarmogoyfs?
--------------
is aspect of the hydra a possibility? i seems like a wild card for a pump spell.
-------------
whats the thoughts on virulent wound? i'm not sure if modern has enough match ups where this is worth running?
-affinity has lots of early game targets for it, even the man lands. ravager is there only way to dodge it i believe.
-pod has lots of targets as well. you could also on there up keep guess which creature there most likely to pod away that turn and make it risky for them to pod that creature as it would give them a poison counter.
-snapcaster mage is a common target for it. though the deck running him often have larger creature which might make wound compete for slot already devoted to dismember or something else.

i think we need to get off the idea that :symb::symb: is shortening the mana base, its optimal lands being fetches aren't cheap $$ but they do make crusader maindeck possible and your never short on green. if you don't mine taking a few hits to your life total. Lanowar wastes and city of brass work just as well for making an even :symb::symb: and :symg::symg: with out so much $$. only flaw in the city and wastes set up is your opening yourself up to a bad match up with burn which is very easy to race in most cases. both land set ups just fyi if you didn't realize would have 4 overgrown tombs alongside the other lands mentioned.

for that kind of use i have to say Prey Upon is the better choice since its not color bound like hunt is. it doesn't seem wrong to get double value out of such fight cards, but to use one for such a narrow situation is messed up. atleast with prey upon I can clear out affinities small guys that might block. only difference being prey upon is far more dependent on wild defiance than hunt is.

the 3rd place list has all of those extras like the dryad arbor and birds of paradise.
the sideboard i'm not sure i understand, what match up is hunt the hunter used for?
pod so you can spot removal melira, sylvok outcast maybe? doesn't look very good for most match ups, not even fighting tarmogoyf which is the only other green creature that people play.

the black discard versions your refering too are usually mono black and use artifacts to pump there creatures to a lethal size. such as lashwrithe and runechanter's pike.
the argument for crusader though is that he has built in answers to decks that are dependent on burn effects in order to stabalize against you, he makes such match ups easier if he lands, and first strike makes him a beast against non white non red creatures. (plus theres several nich situations that are bad for infect and he isn't stopped by.)

Would you mind sharing that list? I wonder what a mana base that can reliably accomodate a T3 crusader (BB-while still having access to fairly heavy green for pumps) looks like. Thanks!

myr doesn't do crap, rather have noble hierarch or anything else that can make exalted. if you can't afford hierarchs try something crazy in that spot like duty bound dead.
not sure i can agree with some of the mainboard quantities. such as the spell pierce, seems like the random 1 of spell pierce would just get lost in the 75
1 rancor? why bother with rancor at all?
Hi TheRogue, did not notice you were from michigan before. The list you reference is mine.
The reason rancor is a 1-of is because I only want 1 of the effect. If you look at the list, youll notice I use sylvan scrying as an infect creature (inkmoth), and inkmoth + nexus is a lot of mana. Multiple rancor are typically bad, and it can be easy for removal heavy decks to blow you out if you use rancor. Also, growing goyf is a real risk.
So why 1 at all? I only run 2 apostle's blessing. I want enough ways to get through damage on a stalled board. With rancor, I have ~7 reasonable answers to a card like lingering souls in the maindeck (2 blessing, 1 rancor, 4 agent). Why not run a third blessing? Because, blessing is just dead in some matchups, and just is a mediocre effect in general. The only reason I run it, is because it is colorless. I like having 4 colorless spells main, so I can use my inkmoth nexus mana more effectively.
Rancor is very good against both affinity and melira out of the commonly played decks. It competes with distortion strike as a finisher type card, but I have always preferred rancor. rancor is easier to cast, and is much better in a relatively common scenario - dealing normal damage through melira. Its actually not to hard to deal 20 if you have agent + rancor vs a melira. This actually happened at the PTQ. In fact, the 1-of rancor single-handedly won me a match at each of the PTQs I played (the other match was vs jund).
To understand the maindeck spell pierce, you need to consider the deck as a whole, and not simply the 60 card maindeck. I feel strongly the deck wants a spell pierce (I certainly wouldnt fault someone for wanting 2-3 pierce/dispel), and if I put it in the sideboard I dont have that slot to play a card like nature's claim or twisted image. Also, by maindecking a card like pierce, once your opponent sees it, they will likely respect it the rest of the match, which is a slight advantage.
you talk about rancor being good against melira, what if you swapped it for one of the swords? wouldn't one of the protection colors be better than relying on trample for attempting to get a free walk in against your opponent?
my own list mainboards phyrexian crusader for the protections that he has built in, turn 4 against some decks is a free walk in with pump spells.

got my gears turning now.... would chord of calling be viable as a means to search up infect creatures? it wouldn't be a bad thing to spend your mana on if your flooded and lacking infect creature to finish the job.
