I am torn over Tetsuko. On one hand he only applies to like 8 creatures and has anti synergy with might of old krosa and exalted triggers. On the other hand, unblockability can just win the game at the right time. He's cute but requires an amount of building around that I am not sure a deck this tight can afford.
It's fun to be able to play real removal and you have discard effects, but the unblockabilty of blighted Agent is just too good. I attempted to switch to GB in a reaction to the meta becoming more grindy, but the amount of games you just lose because they had a blocker is the deciding factor for me.
While I have enjoyed playing Infect in the past, I have struggled with the deck lately, which is unfortunate. With so much Thoughseize and Inquisition, you may not even have access to an infect creature by the time you get to cast one. Then, Liliana makes you get rid of your single infect creature after you actually come across another one. Without Gitaxian Probe (I even had the special art foil ones), it becomes more difficult to see if the way is clear before you go all in on pumping a creature, and its harder to fuel Become Immense. Fatal Push is a huge threat. Now with Solemnity, it seems as though we have to entirely change the Infect package in order to actually have a viable win condition. Is it insurmountable? Not sure, but it seems like the necessary adjustments to deal with all of these conditions forces us to either abandon the deck, or change it significantly in order to keep it viable. That might not be such a bad thing, but then again, the cards might not be there to support it. Each pump spell you remove to actually deal with the variety of new conditions weakens the ability to win with our 1/1 creatures. Maybe in the next set, there will be a card that enables "Proliferate x9" and then we are back in action!
I've said it before and I'll say it again.
The only way for infect to come back to Tier 1 or 2 is for WotC to print some strong "Mid range" infect creatures. Maybe a 3 drop 3/4 that can be regenerated for 2G.
Without better creatures, Infect is done for.
And you are still wrong. Metagame shifts affect modern vastly and infect does best in faster formats.
I don´t think there is need to make the already bad mana base even worse to play a black creature, serum visions has been working really well for me finding me infect creatures when I need them or scrying into the pump spell that you need.
I´ve played infect at 2 weekly modern events lately, went 4-1 and 3-2. 2 of those 3 losses were vs grixis shadow, wich is just a close to impossible matchup. I was playing 2 chameleon colossus to help and actually won the only game I drew it, but I almost lose that game vs liliana bring back several snapcaster to chumpblock.
Holnestly, infect is my favorite deck but it has been so disheartening lately, they keep printing ridiculous stuff vs us( collective brutality, liliana, fatal push, and even ******* solemnity wich I´m sure I will be paired vs someone playing it for that weird new combo deck) while we only got blossoming defense and were punished by bannign gitaxian probe.
Playing vs the 2 top decks is awful, is just a collection of thing we don´t want to see( maindeck liliana the last hope , cheap removal, insane fast clock, and freaking chalice of the void maindeck).
In general i´m not enjoying modern too much lately, my creature decks are having quite a hard time, hope there are some changes with bans or unbans.
How exactly is the mana base "already bad"?? It's 2 colors, and runs 4 dorks to accelerate and ensure you have the proper colors. Adding a single Overgrown tomb, would not affect the manabase much, if at all.
You even admitted the deck is not doing well in modern, especially with all the efficient removal running about.
I think I'm gonna try my list and see how it does, can't possibly be any worse than the current mess this deck is in this meta.
Also, for anyone holding out hope this deck will make it back to Tier 1-2. NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN.
WOTC will NEVER print another 1 CMC infect creature, EVER again. The deck is doomed to stay Tier 3 forever and is basically dead for high level competition, barring some strong "mid range" infect creatures being printed.
Don't expect to see this deck make a comeback anytime soon, if ever
New spells were care about are constantly being printed and there is this concept called a metagame. The current grindfest isn't favorable to infect, but when the next big shift hits, who knows?
Hmm. I misread. It's any spell, not just your opponent's too. Still kinda of slow and man intensive, if there was anyway to abuse it besides existing synergy maybe.
Wondering if livewire lash has been a card that has been tested for UG in the new shadow meta?
Pumps their Death's Shadow and leaves us struggling to deal that last few normal damage with something like Dryad Arbor. Doesn't seem that effective.
I have been having pretty good success lately with this maindeck. The side is still evolving, but I'm trying to have an answer to everything is this meta.
Depends on your local meta, with hand stripping spells you get the ability to remove threats or answers before they are played allowing you to get by with less answers or less protection spells. I would also recommend switching Plague Stinger for Phyrexian Crusader, playing crusader with discard spells allows you to strip the only things that can target it, leaving them with a hand full of useless stuff.
So, I've been playing this deck in Modern for about 3 weeks and as of recent I've been getting smashed left and right. It's getting to the point to where I'm discouraged to pilot this deck. Spot removal is everywhere on untap and I can't seem to win on a consistent basis. How do you all handle this?
LOTS of protection, and patience. Currently packing 4 Vines of vastwood, 4 blossoming defense, 2 apostles blessing, 4 spell pierce as a protection package. Thinking of going to 3 or 4 blessings because of the unblockablity.
why people prefer distortion strike againts slip through space? i actually play 2 of slip and i m 12-0 in the last 3 tournament
distortion strike is actually 2 spells, It is like casting slip through space and drawing another one you get to cast for free without the cantrip, plus the +1 pump over 2 turns. Slip through space is better on the Become immense plane since it feeds delve and draws you cards, but after the probe ban and most people cutting down on the number of BI, Distortion strike is very useful. 2 turns of unblockability & pump just gets you there sometimes, especially if there is a goyf or spirit token in your way.
I was more of a fan of Slip Through space at first, comparing it to Twisted image. However after testing both I think Slip through space is better in metas where you just want to race everyone, whether it's racing to 10 poison or the answer for melira you need. Distortion strike is better when blockers keep getting in your way. My favorite thing about both cards is that they aren't completely useless with blighted agent. Slip draws you card and Strike gives you a pump. It's really more of a meta call IMO. If you are wanting to go all in on 1 attack to kill them, Slip is probably better. If you are wanting to 3-3-4 over time to kill them Strike is probably better.
I've had great success with Dryad Arbor. He sure clunks up an opening hand, but as your 5th fetchable or instant speed blocker he isn't bad. Sometimes it's just great tempo to surprise block their 4/5 goyf and throw off their math, or in response to a lotv sac trigger. Sometimes when you run out of creatures its good to just fetch him and start the normal damage beatdown plan. Running the promo one people mistake it for just a forest sometimes, which i always laugh at because both my forests are Zendikar full arts. When 4x BI was a thing I took mine out for another fetchland, but now that Bi is cut down and the meta is slower it does a surprising amount of work as a 1 of that you can fetch when you need it.
Slip through Space was better when we were packing 4 of Become immense. Now that most lists are cutting some or all of them, Distortion Strike is better since it's 2 turns of evasion and a pump.
