Hi guys, someone uploaded this list in mtgoldfish saying it was de list of Kukor, what do you think? It seens legit to me. I'm gonna play this list this fnm, then I will make a report. Do you recomend some changes to the list? I don't know if I have to play one more spell snare or some Abrade in main, because there is a lot of eldrazi tron in my meta. What do you sugest?
Thank you for posting it, I've been looking for it for days. It does seem legit. He ended up #38 of nearly 1000 contestants.
I'm going to try it out as well. I will make 2 changes to the SB:
-2 smash to smithereens
+2 abrade
-1 blood moon
+1 batterskull (this change is for my meta)
A question out of curiosity: If you want to play a deck with cheap creatures and pumpspells that kills your opponent quickly, why would you play the stormchaser UR delver deck in stead of Infect? Is the slight disruption you have access to better then having to deal 10 less damage?
I have only played a few matches with the stormchaser deck myself and it feels very much like hit-or-miss.
Well, it's not like decks without Snapcasters can't win games!
I think this version of Delver just needs to be seen more as a red deck than a blue one
Does a deck like burn need snapcaster? No! But it wins anyway.
Not saying that this deck is the next big hit, I still think it has some problems, but they are not in the fact that it's not a snapcaster build
Most UR Delver lists of the TC era did run only two or even a single copy of snapcaster!
Of course we don't have TC anymore, of course we are not on that power level, just saying that Snapcaster does not need to be in every single deck with blue ^^"
Why does a deck like burn needs blue in the first place?
You can also add hurkyl's recall and smash to smithereens to that list. I wish I had the answer because I can't seem to find the "best" artifacthate for this deck.
In my current meta affinity is not very popular and we already have a good match-up against them, so I try to run artifact-hate that's also good against other decks: I need to be prepared to kill aether vials and amulets. My artifacthate of choice is a one-off shattering spree, because it's versatile. I also run 1 engineered explosives.
If affinity was popular in my area I would probably just run 2 hurkyl's recall. It's instantspeed, a huge blow-out and awesome with snapcaster mage. I can also see myself running a shatterstorm.
I'm not arguing about this. I agreed twice already that playing Mountains was probably not optimal, and definitely not something I would have done. I just think his reasoning was something other than budget since the Blue fetches from Khans are dirt cheap and he runs a number of pricey cards in the deck. Also, if he's a "good pilot" like the Reddit posters are saying, he's probably been with the deck long enough to have the lands he wants for it. But I don't see how we can't agree that whatever he ran worked at this event, because it clearly did.
Anti-Choke tech? A splinter twin heavy meta would attract copies of it.
I for one am glad people still take this deck seriously and put up nice results with it. The deck is not where it was pre-cruise in popularity, but it's good to see people still smash face with it. Currently there are many different ways to configure this deck and whether a certain match-up is good or bad, heavily depends on that configuration.
It would at least be nice to get this back to tier 2 where it belongs.
I run 1 thundermaw in the sideboard, I posted my decklist earlier on this page. It's mainly there for BGx, Twin and some versions of UWR. I also use it against tokens, soul sisters, d&t and pretty much any deck that relies on lightning bolt as it's main removal spell that's not burn.
Just got stomped by a Grixis Delver.
In that not-really-mirror match, Lavamancer (which my opponent played) was better than Swiftspear mostly because everything our UR deck plays is indeed in the lavamancer's range
Yeah in my experience, straight UR folds to decks with a splash. I've only been able to beat RUG and WUR variants a few times with my list and the Grixis lists going around now seem really strong against us. How did you sideboard against him? What threats was he/she running?
I personally don't think grixis delver is all that great. Tasigur is easy to chump or just outrace with a pyromancer. He doesn't like simple cards like vapor snag or harvest pyre (which I run multiples of these days) and his ability is a lot less impressive in a delverdeck then it is in abzan.
For the past 2 weeks I've been testing a version similar to Caleb D's list:
Online I've played against a large variety of decks. Good match-ups (imo) are: Abzan, affinity, infect, amulet, merfolk, grixis twin, 8 rack, hatebears. Also succesfully played against decks like bant, UW control, gw aggro, cruel control and dredge.
"Ok" match-ups are UR twin, mirror, UWR control.
Terrible match-ups are: burn, UWR burn/geist, bw tokens, mono white lifegain, anything that plays lots of cheap removal to keep our board empty while bashing our face. I also find that random aggro brews can be hard to beat (I lost to zombi-aggro once).
I'm not sure about trondecks, zoo and scapeshift. I haven't played (enough) against them.
It looks like we have plenty of good match-ups and online I'm doing fine with the deck. Problem is, when I go to my LGS and have 4 matches of burn, random burn-aggro, goblins, more goblins and the modern event deck I end up in the sad bracket and depressed. So for my local games I'll probably tweak the deck depending on what I expect. Sword of Fire and Ice, main deck thundermaw hellkite, no more main deck blood moon and more tokenhate like izzet staticaster and electrickery seem like a good start.
As for the deck. All the cards have been good. I'm currently not going to change anything. Batterskull, blood moon and the hellkite are just awesome. (ever tried hellkite in the mirror, on twin or against abzan that just used all their paths on your pyro's and delvers? :P)
Nope no more grim lavamancers for me. I found them to be too slow and getting killed before they could do anything. Always loved the card, but I currently run 2 blood moon and 1 batterskull over the 2 grims and 1 *something*. Makes the deck a little less fragile.
I'm also toying around with 1 thundermaw hellkite in the side. It's a lot of fun against decks that can't deal with it or board out their pte's. Also, it eats siege rhino's, tasigur's, resto's and other large creatures for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Oh and it kills annoying tokens.
I've been testing with an adaptation of Caleb Durward's version of U/R Delver and I'm liking it so far. I used to play the more counter heavy version (8-10 main deck counters), but in my current creature-infested meta I like this pro-active style a lot better. I get more value out of my pyromancers and I can put more pressure on my opponent, forcing them to make less optimal plays and slowing them down that way rather then just countering their stuff.
One of the cards I've been trying and liking A LOT is my one off main deck harvest pyre. In this deck it's basically *2 mana kill anything on curve*. So far it has yet to disappoint me and people do not see it comming. I like it better then dismember, because we hurt ourselves enough as it is. And flashing back dismember? No thanks.
Because there's less counters MD, my match-ups against clunky decks got a little worse; UWR, Tron (but main deck blood moon...) while my creature match-ups got a lot better. My local meta doesn't have any fast combo decks other then amulet bloom (which is a good match-up) and I have yet to encounter them on cockatrice.
Hello, people!
I went to a Modern Event at my LGS as a spectator and I took note of some of the decks in my Meta.
N°players total: 16
Decks I managed to peek: 13
-Burn (both R and WR) [3x]
-Burn/Land destruction [1x]
-UR Twin [2x]
-Affinity [1x]
-BW Tokens [2x]
-U Tron [1x]
-Ad Nauseam [1x]
-BUG Delver with Wild Nacatl and Goyfs [1x]
-Sliver tribal [1x]
Didn't see Infect, but I know it also happens to be there sometimes.
I probably have also seen fewer Goyfs than usual
What are my sideboard options in this meta?
As a newby delver player, sideboarding is being the hardest part for me to grasp
Do you have any suggestions on the mainboard, too?
Some number of negates, 1 or 2 blood moons, 2x combust and 2-3x engineered explosives should do fine.
By the way, what did you people think about no Delver variant being represented at the Pro Tour? Is our deck so bad in the new meta?
I'm a little disappointed there were no delvers at the pro tour. On the other hand, I heard that the pro tour meta's usually don't represent the meta's for regular folks. I woulnd't mind playing against a lot of infect, affinity and bloom titan decks though.
The problem is that this deck only performs well if you know what to expect. In an open field our spells are just too fragile to answer everything people throw at us. I'm convinced this deck will get better once the meta settles down. During my testing so far I found that we're good against the low curve fast decks and (most) combo decks and we have a hard time winning the grindy games.
Currently I'm testing UR, with various numbers of blood moon main and side. If that fails, I'll probably go with black for tasigur and terminate, but so far I enjoy UR too much.
