It is a solid card in the deck. I have been playing some rounds against other decks and really liking it so far. One thing I have been trying out too is Heart of Kiran and Aethersphere Harvester as they drop very early and the Flying is useful. Realistically you are probably better off playing Myr Superion as they both have "similar" drawbacks but they're nice low cost artifacts to try out.
...I was brainstorming a UW version to take advantage of flicker effects. Using Venser, the Sojourner or Flickerwisp to remove GA for a turn and make a ton of Thoptors doesn't seem like the worst idea ever.
If you do go the UW route and still want to keep the tax angle, Grand Arbiter Augustin IV could be a decent replacement for Lodestone Golem...makes Venser cost 1UW
I like this idea. It is going to up the curve of the deck a lot more than I anticipated but I'll try it out and see.
Battle at the Bridge, "Improvise" is definitely a downgrade from the "Affinity" mechanic...but hopefully we get some tier worthy blue/artifact spells with it...
Still too early to tell about the mechanic, there could be some really good stuff coming. Aside from that, this deck may not be the best suited to capitalize on the mechanic because of the balance between blue-nonartifact creatures and artifacts.
One thing that sprung to mind with this was Thoptor Sword. Now I know it's a nonbo with Grand Architect, but diversifying threats isn't a bad thing especially when adding 3-4 cards to the deck can be an entirely new wincon. If the new mechanics turns out to have something good then the mass artifact tokens will seem like you're not spending any mana at all if you are 'convoking' them, and you cards will have a "Chief Engineer" feel without relying on the somewhat fragile creature. These lists seem pretty decent. Perhaps the mana bases could use some tweaking, but I guess Chief Engineer does what we want and just better compared to Heartless Summonings..
I just realized Thopter/Sword + Architect would allow for infinite tokens/life if it wasn't for Architects lord effect. Guess there's always Illness in the Ranks and Heartless Summoning lol...
Wasn't there a UB version of Grand Architect a long long time ago that just powered out huge threats more so than it already does? The biggest downside I can see with it trying to play the 1/1 theme is that you're super susceptible to having GA removed, where the point of playing Heartless Summonings is to create redundancy. Night of Souls' Betrayal could be a good fit though since the asymmetrical effect would actually benefit us.
I just noticed that a lot of the lists here are more controlling, so is this a branch of the deck that hasn't really been explored before? To me it seems like trying to go big with awkward like Myr Superion aren't going to work. I tried it before and it crashed and burned.
Has anyone looked at playing a very low cmc deck, with things such as Ornithopters and Memnites while playing Disciple of the Vault. If there is a way to get Null Profusion in play then you could go on a rampage cycling your deck. I think some accelerators such as Palladium Myr to get it out. You could then use the Chief Engineer and Grand Architect to power out all the cards you draw.
I think that you should include one copy of Pili-pala and some Fabricates. They would give you some more toolboxy feel to the deck and have an infinat combo. There must be something that you could be doing with all of that mana as well.
I think that paying multiple Myr Battlespheres is the way to go because of the convoke. They will be better in the long run compared to a Wurmcoil and sorts. By dropping two you can essentially 1-2 shot the opponent.
Another card that has been brought up in every Grand Archatect thread ever is Myr Superion. This deck is oozing with ways to cast it so I felt that it would be worth mentioning.
