I don’t know what deck to play. I enjoy midrange decks a ton, and I also like combo. I have a three hundred dollar budget. I am only just getting into modern from standard, and this will be my first modern deck aside from mono green infect. Thoughts?
I think UR Storm would be a good option for you. It's super tough to find a Modern deck for around $300, but Storm fits the bill.
I would like my deck to be competitive since I don't enjoy playing a deck if I know it's not very good even though it might be my play style otherwise. I was thinking about Izzet Phoenix Humans but I'm not sure.
Either of those would be very good. You may wanna try Esper Shadow - I heard it has a good Hogaak matchup as well. I'm not so sure about vs. other decks though, as I saw 1 of those at a recent tournament fall on its face with a good pilot. So I would do some research first of course, but it's probably as good a time as any for Esper Shadow.

normally been playing some form of midrange or control in modern. I played dredge a bit but sold it because |I did not enjoy or understand it. I play show and tell in legacy and really like it and wanted to build some kind of goryo's deck or the boaryos vengeance deck because it cheats the same creatures into play? Based off of this information would you try it?
I think Goryo's Vengeance, aka Grishoalbrand, is very strong. I played it for quite a while. You and I were the only ones posting on the Sneak Show Legacy thread, so I can see that you enjoy that type of Combo deck. But Grishoalbrand is a different beast. You have to be used to some variance, as we don't have Brainstorm obviously. If you can deal with that (the only reason I say this is that I know many local Midrange/Control players that have tried glass cannon Combo decks and they usually don't like them much), then either deck seems fun.
I personally wanted to try the Boar version, as it seems fun and the name, "Boaryo's Vengeance," is priceless. I don't know much of it, but I do know that when you "Combo" out, you don't guarantee (or close to it depending on your life total) actually chain Nourishing Shoals to win. The card advantage needs to be enough to win.
I would try it if I were you, but I'm very biased. Grishoalbrand gave me a 24-1-X record in my first month and a half of playing it, including a PPTQ win, so I'm always going to have a soft spot for the deck. I just haven't had the guts to try it in the Surgical Extraction era. I even have the deck fully foiled and used to have 7 Guru lands in the deck until I sold all of my Gurus. It is one of my favorite Modern decks that I've ever played.

I'm just getting back into modern after a couple years off. Have just been busy, but find myself needing this outlet. I have lots of cards, have bought a bunch to catch up. My decks I have are Dredge, Abzan Devoted Company, Boros Burn, BW Tokens, UR Control, Grixis Death Shadow. Dredge was my daughter's deck but she no longer plays. The others I used to rotate through. Have also built in past Stompy, Soul Sisters, Blue Moon, Martyr Proc, Kiki Evolution, UR Delver, Jeskai Tempo, etc.. Which should I focus on? I did one Tuesday modern with BW Tokens and got harmed. Amulet Titan, Eggs, ...
Why not run Dredge? It's a damn good deck, especially in this meta.

I personally think that UR Phoenix and Dredge are at the top of the Modern metagame. I believe that Amulet is close, if played well. I would practice it a bunch if you have time. It is really a deck that takes an investment in play time to master. I've played Summer Bloom Titan AND Amulet Titan both and still make many mistakes. But then I play a bunch of decks, so I lose a bit when I switch around.
Titanshift is solid, but I feel that it's a Tier below those 3 decks. I love Titanshift and have played it in many formats ever since Valakut was printed, but I just don't have faith in it anymore. You may try RG Breach, but I feel like it has similar problems.

Okay, looking for some advice here. After having my ass handed to me at the GP and 2 MCQs, I decided to play the best, consistent deck. I have it narrowed down to 2 decks.
1. UR Phoenix.
2. Dredge.
Which deck is more consistent? I'm assuming it's Dredge? I also have a few Burn players around my LGS and I heard that UR Phoenix almost can't beat Burn, so maybe I should lean more toward Phoenix? Free Lightning Helix is good!
Which one would you do? I've been playing decks to hedge against Burn, but have dodged them all the last 3 weeks I played at FNM. But maybe that will change and I like to hedge against Burn.

I currently play Merfolk as my go-to deck, but am looking for another deck to have in my back pocket in case I'm feeling something different. I enjoy creatures, grindy gameplay, and resource management. I am on a bit of a budget though.
What do you think about Eldrazi and Taxes? I know it also plays vial, but you do grind out games a bit more often than not.
It's not quite a budget deck, but there's definitely budget choices that you can make when you start out. I personally don't think this deck is all that strong, even if it does have some nut draws. But a friend has proven me wrong.
Private message me if you want me to let you know an outlet to get help for the deck. In Modern, the best thing to be doing is talking constantly to Modern specialists of a specific deck that have proven track records. Let me know. I'm sure he wouldn't mind.

Amulet. Tron will always be what it is, but Amulet has a better ceiling imo.
While I agree with the choice, I think Tron has the better floor and better average play. I feel like Tron could be a better choice unless someone wants to spend hours and hours perfecting Amulet. (spoken as someone who has played it and Bloom for quite a bit and still has trouble with lines)
I also kind of wonder why Tron has dropped in play quite a bit recently. I'm assuming it has something to do with the decline of Control and Midrange near the top of current metagames?

I must say that I would hardly classify Amulet as a Combo deck to begin with. The old versions with Hive Mind sure. But the ones with Primeval Titan as the main game plan are pretty much Ramp decks just like Tron. All the land interactions just feel combo-y
Yes, this is it. It is a ramp deck with a toolbox that uses Tolaria West to find specific lands, Engineered Explosives, Pacts, or Walking Ballista in order to sculpt a game winning plan.
I think Amulet is indeed very strong, but the problem I personally found is that it is NOT like other Combo decks that kill you when they go off. Amulet kills you if you have 2 or more Amulets, yes. But if you have 1, you literally rely on Pact of Negation stopping your opponent from ruining your game plan or killing you outright next turn.
It is actually a pretty grindy deck, especially if you don't have an Amulet of Vigor in play. Yes, you have the nut hand double Amulet of Vigor kills, but outside of that, you're pretty much in for a game that will have lots of decisions that can all be very costly or extremely rewarding. I don't know if that's where you want to be in this meta, rather than just Dredging stuff up or Thing bouncing while Birds smash. I have heard that it does have a good matchup vs. both of these decks, although I haven't personally tested them yet.

The main reason why I don't play Grixis Death's Shadow is … drum roll please … twofold. The first reason is that I get mana flooded too often. The first 5 land drops are fine. It makes it easy for me to grow potential Death's Shadows (and I do mean potential since I may never draw them; Thought Scour is a spiteful fig as 2 Death's Shadows in the graveyard is usually GG). The other problem I have is that I had the deck foiled before, but now there's new cards in, like Mishra's Bauble and Faithless Looting (I have that in foil, but not the Baubles). I don't want to play the deck partially foiled. It's 75 non foil or 75 foil.
I may consider 4 Color Shadow, as Traverse the Ulvenwald gives me 8 Death's Shadows and possible silver bullets. I've been really enjoying Eldritch Evolution decks, as I have outs to many different kinds of decks with mana dork into Eldritch Evolution for the silver bullet creature.
I went with Druid Evolution with Postmortem Lunge.
I won 4 rounds, but lost rounds 4 and 5 to Burn in 3 super close games. Ended up a disappointing 11th. Beat Scales, BG Midrange, Humans, lost to Burn, lost to Burn, and beat Red Prison.
The round 4 Burn dude ended up in the top 2, which each got the invitation and cash (2 Burn players, ugh!)
*And you have to understand that I'm very superstitious. I refused to play Caw Blade in tournaments in Standard before because I never got turn 2 Stoneforge Mystic in practice on turn 2. Even with mulligans, I could not get there. So, me drawing all 18 lands in GDS makes me really not want to play the deck. I could do better if I draw well with Cragganwick.

Of the choices you listed, I would go with these in this order...
1. Traverse Shadow - you know how to play it well and it still is a solid deck in my opinion. I could be mistaken, as I don't really know how the recent meta changes affect it, but if you can beat UR Phoenix and KCI or hang with them, that's a plus.
2. Grixis Shadow - it is also a solid option. Not spectacular. Matt Sperling nearly ran it at the MCQ in Oakland, but won instead with UR Phoenix.
3. Speaking of Phoenix, I know it's not one of your options, but I would suggest it. My first 4 rounds at Oakland, I ran into this deck on the draw for me. I think this deck on the play (or probably otherwise) is a good place to be.
The next section may be a bit harsh and definitely biased -
1. Blue Moon is a worse Phoenix deck, UW Control can get it done, but a LOT, and I mean a LOT of things have to go your way, Jeskai is okay I guess, Grixis Control I believe is stronger than most people think; still it's pretty bad, and I would never try Abzan Traverse, even if it sounds fun. I literally had months where I looked forward to getting paired vs. one of these at my LGS (during the reign of G Shadow). The deck is SO weak to grave hate and has a terrible clock. It's really hard to Jund/Junk people out nowadays - too many angles.
