(possibly 3/3 on Evolution and Chord but Chord feels much worse in testing)
This has felt like a huge improvement over the pre-Eldritch Moon deck. Selfless Spirit is obviously leagues better than Burrenton Forge-tender, Eldritch Evolution is faster than Chord and they're generally good in the same situation.
The hate that misses Archangel + Spike Feeder includes Scavenging Ooze, Grafdigger's Cage, Torpor Orb, Leyline of the Void, Faerie Macabre, etc. The Thune/Feeder combo, if executed intelligently, also often dodges any single removal spell (if you wait until you can put a third +1/+1 counter on Spike Feeder)
Voice is especially bad because even against UWR, Nahiri just exiles it
If your scoozes are consistently dying to bolt, try treating it like a four-drop instead of a two-drop.
Kalitas is an issue, but we have removal and Archangel should really be in every Company deck.
Nahiri Jeskai is not a good matchup by any means. I suppose it depends on their list, but I think everyone maindecks Anger of the Gods, which is a huge problem.
The MTGSalvation ban discussion policy is really bad in my opinion (I hope this doesn't count as discussing bans?)
Nahiri is busted so I'll be running every flavor of Nahiri deck as my main Modern deck for a while, but I do test a lot with Company and it's definitely a very strong deck.
Not to be speculating too much about bannings, but I fear an Eye of Ugin ban makes tron better, not worse. They just run Eldrazi temples and play a slightly slower but more powerful RG Eldrazi. I'm not sure why they aren't already doing that, but tron players are stubborn and RG Eldrazi is just an infinitely better deck until the banning.
Public Mod Note
(ktkenshinx):
Warning for Modern banlist discussion outside of the official thread -ktkenshinx-
If there's a lot of tron in your area, boarding crumble to dusts and one stomping ground main is a legitimate plan that will greatly improve that matchup, but you have to consider the costs to other matchups. Fortunately, our deck is pretty good against almost everything else and can afford the slots.
The best card against Grixis is evolutionary leap hands down.
I think Abzan Company is just a better deck. I played against three Chord decks at GP Detroit (I was playing RG Eldrazi). The first one was Kiki-Chord in round 3 (we were 2-0). He was playing Myr Superion, which isn't new to me but is certainly not a common choice either. In the fifth round at 4-0, I played against Archangel Chord. He was also playing Myr Superion! In the sixth round, I played against Abzan Company at 5-0. The only strange component of his list was three Spellskite. I know some players were on three Skites at the Pro Tour, but it seems quite subpar to me.
My main observation through Day 1 (I decided not to play in day 2 despite ending day 1 at 6-3, after losing my last three matches in a row to two mirrors and RG Scapeshift's double nut draw) was that there was a LOT of RG Eldrazi and Chord decks at the top tables. When I was playing against Archangel Chord, the match next to me was RG Eldrazi vs Abzan Company, and on the other side it was RG Eldrazi vs Kiki-Chord. Ironically, I also played all of those matchups.
Melira shuts off Inkmoth Nexus as said above in every case except when Inkmoth is already active when Melira enters the battlefield. The best way to account for this is to Company or Chord for Melira in response to the Inkmoth activation. This works even if they activate the Inkmoth again in response because after the Melira enters, Inkmoth will gain infect again with its ability, and won't be able to give you poison counters or give your creatures -1/-1 counters.
I'll be going to GP Detroit at the beginning of next month, and this is one of 6 decks I'm looking at (the three Eldrazi lists [Colorless, UR, RG], Affinity, Blue Moon [which the current iteration of is very good against Eldrazi], and Abzan Company). Anyone have a really good decklist for the current meta assuming 35-40% Eldrazi?
The matchup data on the first page has never been accurate, I think. Eldrazi should be a fine matchup, we are more aggressive than they can handle and they only have a few ways to interact with the combo, so just try to combo as fast as possible. Grand Abolisher has been an all-star for me in that matchup.
The list I tested extensively against was the BW one. I think it's the worst one now with mono black, aggro, and heartless summoning lists all being superior to the processors.
I've actually been beating the Eldrazi deck consistently. My experience is that we are able to combo before they can stop it and that we can usually get their life total low and finish them off. If they're running the Blight Herder version that I expect to be less popular now, we have Orzhov Pontiff to force damage through.
Ugin wouldn't have mattered, my opponent never had 8 mana. Note the Crumble to Dust in the graveyard.
