I won a game against tron, with the Adept, i delved to become immense, and burning inquiry twice (netting no cards but to pump him 6 more times for lethal (he was at 13 already on turn 3)
That's why i still run the Inquiry. I did side out two Goblin Lores for Cathartic reunion but i only play two in the deck so " the getting stuck" part has less chance of being an issue
interesting the only difference between yours and mine is the addition of noose constrictor and the two fiery tempers (and one more grim lavamancer but i run one more phoenix)
I like this and i think im gonna go home and tweak my build to this and try it tonight.
Game two GDS
My deck crapped on me. Held decent hands but i literally drew only lands
Game 2 i Faithless looting on turn one drew two lands. I drew a FL turn two, cast it Drew 2 lands, With my other mana cast a creature, turn three I Burning Inquiry drew three lands, I FL one more time and drew 1 land and an Insolent Neonate, cast him. Next turn draw a land FL from the graveyard drew a land and another insolent neonate., Discard him to draw (sac neonate) and draw a vengevine. I was so upset about this round. It didn't matter what i was playing
Game three Merfolk 1-2
Good games he just had the right stuff at the right time - deck didnt quite go off game three like i needed..I did pretty good but he vapor snagged my hollow one, and my hooting mandrils, and then next turn i draw another hollow one, and he cast a Master of Waves.
So 1-2 overall... That puts me at 8-2-3 (3 ID) over the last three weeks. ive won those ID though so its actually 11-2...i need to do better at bigger events.
Played in my 8 man 3 round Tuesday modern event - same list as last week.
Game 1 Eldrazi Tron
2-0 Slammed him in Game 2 with 12 power turn 2
Game 2 RG Tron
2-1 3rd game player scooped after i hit him for 14 turn 2
Game 3 Tweaked Version RG Tron (We drew but played for fun)
2-1
Game One i lost on the draw to Natural tron.
Game 2 on his turn two he played two Maps, on my turn three i Ancient Grudged One and Flashbacked for the second... then proceeded to kill him.
Game 3 Had a Great hand to just drop a Hollowed one on t1 and bring back a flamewake turn two. He couldnt hang.
Undefeated again this week!! Man i am loving killing people with this version.
I finally feel like i have a Deck that is really resilient. Id say we can compete with t2 or t1 decks now.
So sideboard.. I like goblin lore in sideboard. Number one reason is Chalice on 1, I side out my burning inquiry's bring these in and ancient grudge and Spree. So in case i cant kill it, i can play around it, Plus a 5/2 adept kills fast and evades one creature, or i Burning tree combo and beat down faster.
Cant remember my sideboard, but its in flux ill come back and correct it
Went 4-0 last night
Game 1 /2-0/ Had a bye since we had uneven amount of players
Game 2 /2-0/ Smallpox/8 Rack Budget version (Missing LOTV)
Game 3 /2-1/ Lantern Control - Game one Had 2 hollow ones and attacked with two vengevines turn one...scoop!
Game 4 /2-1/ 5 Color Humans - Blood Moon Game 2 and 3 basically won the game for me. Lavamancer was Huge... Need another one of him
I think the Burning Tree Version vs The All In Goblin Lore Version is more powerful and resilient in my 50 or so games of paper magic.
Ive been playing the adept version for a few weeks now and took it to gp atlanta... I'm gonna move back to the list you have here as i think its overall better and more resilient.
I do like adept though over goblin guide, cause the discard is nuts, and i like burning inquiry, so i may build your version and trade the guide for adept and cathartic for inquiry.
Flamewake has been an allstar, and id run 3 over the 2nd hooting mandrills.
I played again last night without changing the decklist from your version... Undefeated 3-0-1
Game 1 elves 2-0
Game 2 Weird Rats Deck 2-0
Game 3 Saheli Combo 2-0
Game 4 ID with Elves
So i think I've figured out what i was doing wrong. I think i was always trying to play for the combo, but instead i started playing around with other lines of play in mind. Game 1 against elves opening hand had no looting, no vines, but it did have 2 Lavamancers and 3 fetchlands and two adepts.. I thought about it and said you know what i'll play the kill your creatures game instead of mulliganing to get the combo started and you know what. it worked out great. In fact Lavamancer is really good i might go up to three (i think you run three already)
aCTUALLY i just reread what you posted and lol... i wrote almost exactly what you said.
@pizzap I am not finding your Decklist to actually work out for me in paper... I don't know what it is maybe its the meta, or i am playing it wrong or using the cards at the wrong time or keeping a hand that requires more patience etc.... Not sure.
I feel like the Burning Tree Decklist was as explosive as this one. I am going to play your decklist another week this time i am going to replace goblin lore with Cathartic Reunion. I like Burning inquiry, so i will keep those. This past week
I lost to Elves and E tron.
Tron was close 2-1
Elves game one i literally went through half my deck - Turn one Looting.. two vines in the graveyard. drew Two lands. Turn Two Goblin lore 3 lands and a Phoenix leaving me with vengevine, phoenix, neonate, 2 lands. Next turn draw Lore. try again.
draw adept, land, Lavamancer, Looting. random discard adept, lavamancer looting. cast neonate discard vengvine draw street wraith, Wraith, draw land. Next turn draw inquiry, cast inquiry (here is where i should have flashbacked looting but hindsight) draw adept, neonate, bushwaker, random discard all three that i just drew. I just scooped by then. as he had ezurri and archdruid out and enough power to kill me on board
Tron was a race close games all three of them. Definitely need something to handle UW and its counter nonsense. Only wins were a bye and against storm round 4
Interesting i find the 1 cmc vs goblin lore 2cmc to be the biggest drawback to Goblin Lore. In fact I've hated my opening hand of 2 1cmc creatures, 2 goblin lore, 2 lands and a Vengevine... almost anytime i'd want to play Faithless looting, Burning Inquiry and Cathartic reunion Over goblin lore on turn two. Even replacing itself its still been more of a killer then Burning Inquiry. At least with BI its one mana and most of the time hurts the other guy.
Maybe glorious end 2 or 3 of in the sideboard? I like the whole end your turn thing and us win on our turn. generally it wouldn't be any good but we are usually one turn away from winning against these combo decks anyways that i think it would surprise some people. Especially with lotus bloom on the stack being cast you end the turn. Obviously you have to worry about pact of negation, but you always have to worry about it at least now you have a chance where before you didn't have any chance.
Game one Ad Nauseum
Win Game 1 through Phrexian unlife
Lose game two turn 3 or 4
Lose game three - i had lethal on board and they had a darkness... then next turn combo
Game two - Discard/Smallpox??
Game one i mull to 5 on the draw but i put a vine and phoenix in graveyard off of faithless and Street Wraith for free Hollow One
He plays a swamp and played smallpox his turn 2. What a Jerk. I top a land and play it and cast hooting mandrills... and he turn three played another smallpox.
Win game 2
Lose game 3
Game 3 Mono green Stompy
Win game one through attrition blocking and finally topdecking a become immense.
Game two he had two dismembers and 3 vines of vastwood and kept his creatures alive. I lose
Game three beat him on turn 4
Game 4 mono blue faires
Win Game 1 easy
Game 2 Lost to being mistbind clicque
Win Game three, 12 power on turn 1, 4 haste
Ad nauseum is a tough one and i wasnt expecting the Smallpox
Oh ok you discarded and adept and drew an adept... i didnt have audio so thats why i missed that! That was a close game and if even one of those discards had dropped the Phoenix 2 turns earlier you would have won that game.
