I also assumed that you had "Burn type decks" in your meta, so I didn't question the 3 Nurturing Peatland. In that case, I personally do believe that 3 is correct. You don't ever really want 2 of those out as your only lands ever. I have felt that pain before, mostly with Devoted Druid Company.
Me personally, I'd side my 2 Dismember and my 2 Surgical Extraction. I personally don't think that Damping Sphere does enough and it further waters down Company, which I hate, hate, hate to take out ever.

Oh yes, I know. I have played Titanshift (which admittedly is slightly better against Elves than Breach) for probably 2 years all together. It's one of the easiest matches for the deck.
I was just a bit upset because he saw what I was going to play in Round 1 and then chose to play his own deck after he begged me to play GB Rock. He audibled because he was scared of Elves. Then I had a plan to play around Anger of the Gods, which seemed doable with land, mana dork, double Elvish Archdruid. Then I had a plan in Game 2 to try to Company into a single Lord. But then again, Company is a card that has a lot of variance. I have to be willing to live and die by that card. I guess I could have let him sweep my board, then Company into two 1/1s and try to beat him with that? (or worse, Company into a Lord after my board was wiped)
As for me, regarding Nurturing Peatland, I will replace the 4 Horizon Canopy with 4 Nurturing Peatland. The card is a godsend, considering how many times I have Canopies out, but can't cast Shaman of the Pack.

16 person FNM, small... I kept SIX 1 land hands (and mulled another one) in my first 3 rounds.
Round 1 vs. RG Breach. I loaned out GB Rock to this friend, but he got scared of the pointy eared bois and went with his own RG Breach instead. In the first game, I kept on 1 land, dork X 2, 2 Elvish Archdruid. I draw a 3rd Archdruid, but don't find a 2nd land, so I can't drop Archdruids like crazy. I lose to a turn 3 Breached Titan because I have no way to win before his next turn, while at 2 life. In the next game, he goes turn 3 Chandra, Torch of Defiance into RR and Firespout. Lol. I have 2 Lords in play and try to hit more with Company. I hit 3 dorks and 3 lands and scoop. Two 1/1s after a board wipe aren't winning anyway, right? 0-2.
Round 2 vs. Jund. I get Junded out with a 1 land keep. I can only play 1 mana dudes that die to a flurry of Bolts, Fatal Pushes, and an Assassin's Trophy on my Blooming Marsh (when there was a land on top randomly, lol). In the next game, I peel a 2nd land and go to work. Honestly I just outdrew him here, even after I drew Shaper's Sanctuary with 3 Bolts in his graveyard. His Liliana, the Last Hope still got me many cards and with Lords, I was able to stay alive and resolve an average Company into drawing Lead the Stampede. Some people have all the luck! The next game is similar, but my draws were just very good. I knew he had Liliana of the Veil in hand and I went mana dork into mana dork and Dwynen's Elite. I get Lords and also have Westvale Abbey. I slow roll to see if he has Damnation and then fetch 2 more Elvish Clancaller EoT into a lethal swing. 2-1.
Round 3 vs. GB Rock. In the first game, I keep on 1 land, but I draw enough gas after he just makes discard and 1 Goyf. In the next game, he draws Damnation in time with Liliana the Last Hope in play and he Junds me out. I can never get something going, especially with Snoozes so big. In the final game, I am the first to Scooze and eat 2 dudes to make it a 4/4. He reveals Fatal Push with Dark Confidant and kills the Scooze, but I draw all the power houses in this game and he falls behind, although he DOES kill an Ezuri. I have another Ezuri in hand and 2 Elvish Archdruid in play. I draw a 3rd land and SLAM Ezuri. He scoops. 2-1.
Round 4 vs. 8 Rack. In the first game, I get Smallpoxed, but draw Ezuri to play land, Dwynen's Elite to go with Heritage Druid, tap for Ezuri. I draw Company after this and he gets double Shaman of the Pack when I Company. Ouch! The next game is similar and I ignore a Liliana the Last Hope and swing with so many dudes. Three 3/3s swing him with him at 3 and Field of Ruin and Marsh Flats up with 2 cards in hand. I literally drew a 4th land that very turn to possibly play 2 Elvish Clancaller, but I didn't want to rub it in and it certainly looked like lethal. Can anyone figure out what set of 2 cards from 8 Rack could have beaten me here? 2-0.
I go 3-1 for 5th place. Had to creep out of the 0-1, (0-2) hole...

I tried Elves at a 29 person FNM for the first time in a while.
Round 1 vs. Amulet. I spammed too many Elves, going off with triple Nettle Sentinel, Heritage Druid, and Coco + Lead the Stampede. He scoops on his turn 3. I had enough blockers to chump block a 10/6 double strike Titan if needed, enough mana to pay 2GG for a Summoner's Pact off Hive Mind, but not enough to survive a potential TWO double Striking 8/6 Titans. In the next game, he had Engineered Explosives on 1, so I got Dwynen's Elite and Elvish Archdruid on turn 2. Then I played the Damping Sphere I had been saving, so he had to Summoner's Pact for Reclamation Sage to bust it. He got double Amulet, but he couldn't find Titan and I ran him over. 2-0.
Round 2 vs. Burn. He put a big clock on me, but missed his 3rd land drop. I Company into Lord and Shaman of the Pack, allowing me to attack with most creatures. He declined blocking with his Eidolon of the Great Revel, so he was locked out from killing me (I had blockers and 2 burn spells with Eidolon in play kill HIM). In the next game, he does Monastery Swiftspear into Searing Blaze on my Essence Warden, but he misses burn for 4 turns, while I find a 3rd land to CoCo with Elf in play. I find double Dwynen's Elite, so I block all 4 of his creatures, with my Shaman of the Pack and Llanowar Elf living. He is at 4, so he dies on the swingback with 1 card in hand. Just poor draws by him near the end. 2-0.
Round 3 vs. Dredge. I am on the play, so I get too much going before he can get off the ground. Ezuri makes my guys big enough to swing for 21 damage. In the next game, I turn 3 do Westvale Abbey, flipping into the Ormendahl, Profane Prince. On his turn 2, I also used Surgical Extraction on his Bloodghast to not allow a Prized Amalgam trigger too. Super good draws vs. this deck! 2-0.
Round 4 vs. Little Kid Abzan Hate Bears. We ID'd 0-0-3, but played for fun. In the first game, I play too many dudes and he scoops, knowing there's no way around this. The next game is similar, but I was mana restricted, so he got me to 9 to 27 before I was able to do 31 damage to him on the same turn for exactly lethal. Good matchup for this deck. 2-0.
I went 3-0-1. Not too upset about IDing the final round since I know the guy.

What is everyone plan against izzet Phoenix? Match is pretty rough and I have been working hard to improve my low win percent against them.
I haven't played it because I don't dare run Collected Company in this meta, much less try to run a Green creature deck right now.
But I would assume that you would have to twist your SB to accommodate the matchup. Put fetches and Overgrown Tomb to play stuff like Black removal and possibly discard. Play 3-4 Surgical Extraction in your SB. You have to hedge super hard when you play a deck that will always play turn 2 Thing in the Ice.

I would probably only board in Scavenging Ooze against Control; possibly Assassin's Trophy, but I don't have any in Elves anyway. I did side in Shaper's Sanctuary, but that was against Grixis or Jeskai. UW is different in my opinion.

I could play 4 Cavern of Souls. The whole deck is foil although I am using them in another deck, I could switch it over. I just don't think that it is necessary. Our opponent literally just wants to counter CoCo or Lead the Stampede (or a SB card like Shaper's Sanctuary), so for them to leave in Countermagic or counter an Elf in game 1 is pretty bad for them usually.
*Vs. UW Control, I found that the strategy is mostly to go all out and try to dodge turn 2, 3, or 4 Terminus. If you have a hand that can rebuild with Lead the Stampede or Collected Company, do that route. But you need to put massive pressure on their life total so that it's Miracle Terminus (or something like Path X 2, Snap X Path X 2) or die. My win percentage went up when I realized this. There's really no point in saving a 2/2 and a 1/1 for after a Terminus, of course in very niche situations (like your opponent is at 1 or 2 life).

Round 1 vs. Abzan Company. He plays turn 2 Tireless Tracker. I play turn 2 a million things. He plays a turn 3 Kitchen Finks and loses to the crack back from Ezuri and dudes. In the next game, he can't find the combo, does a Company for a Noble Hierarch, and gets crunched by a bunch of Lords. We played a game 3 for fun and I kept on Dork, 2 lands, 3 Shaman of the Pack, and something else. I go off and double Shaman on a turn, while people watched in disgust. They probably thought it was the actual match. Intimidation. 2-0.
Round 2 vs. Grixis Control. Game 1, she fetches, but no shock. Tap out for Azcanta, the Sunken Ruin. I go off and play a million dudes, including 2 Shaman of the Pack. She scoops. The next game has Shaper's Sanctuary late, but I just couldn't find my 4th land until it was too late, as I got tempoed out by Anger of the Gods, Liliana the Last Hope, Izzet Staticaster, and removal. In the last game, I go Llanowar Elf into double Llanowar Elf into Lords. They got killed, but they hit for a bunch and the Swamp that got Thought Scoured prevented me from facing Damnation and LotH. Got there. 2-1.
Round 3 vs. Dredge. In the first game, I go off with a lot of Lords and dodge Conflagrate. This was the 2nd nut hand I've had this tournament. Felt good. In the next game, it is super close, but he made a small mistake of not dredging and casting Stinkweed Imp. I only had another Lord, so it would have put me dead next turn. I also made a mistake of not realizing that, but I did not get punished. 2-0.
Round 4 vs. Tron. I consider playing it out, but decide not to. I thought about turn 4 Ugin and O Stones and potential poor draws by me. He just beat the Tron mirror last round, so luck was on his side. 0-0-3.
I go 3-0-1. I pussied out in Round 4 because I hadn't won store credit in the past 3 times here, a low for me. Kind of wanted to 4-0, but I also wanted to watch my 2 friends that I drove with battle it out with Tron vs. Amu-Lit. Tron got it, Boooo!!!

I have played Vexing Shusher a bit in formats and literally the only reason to run the card is against Chalice of the Void.dec. Any other deck with Countermagic ALSO has removal for days, so the card is nearly worthless. I would never run Vexing Shusher in Modern, at least as it stands now. If you don't have Cavern of Souls, just play without them. I own Cavern of Souls, yet STILL don't play it in Elves because you would rarely need it. It's just easier for me to leave them in another deck. Ever since I saw some random dude top 8 a GP with GB Elves without Cavern, I was sold on not trying to completely make the deck as strong as it can be. Basically you're adding another 0.01% to the win percentage or something like that. It's negligible.

Lead the Stampede should be a 3-4 of. This is what I've seen several Elves lists do, starting with mine.
1. 3 Lead the Stampede, 4 Collected Company
2. 4 Lead the Stampede, 4 Collected Company
3. 3 Lead the Stampede, 1 Chord of Calling, 4 Collected Company
4. 4 Chord of Calling, 4 Collected Company.
Gaddock Teeg is bad for that reason AND they have control about when they want to Path to Exile it or not. It's also not an Elf, so it has no other synergy with the deck, which wouldn't be the worst if it did more, but it just is a speed bump.
*I personally never found Loaming Shaman to be worthy in Modern. I always question the card whenever I see it in someone's 75. It's just my experience though.

Hello, everyone. I've been testing with some people at my LGS and... how do you guys play around UW Control? It seems hard now to protect the board because their sweepers exile rather than destroy, and more importantly, they can set Terminus into Miracle pretty easily with Opt and Jace, the Mind Sculptor. Selfless Spirit is not being useful here, anymore.
Are there playabe cards in Elves to dodge Terminus, for example?
I would just hope to play Lead the Stampede in some window before Terminus happens. And rely on your Companies to rebuild. There's really no other way around it. Terminus costing 1 mana leaves the UW opponent with mana for countering whatever you respond with. It should be less of an issue after board, especially if you show Cavern of Souls, but they still should keep in some countermagic. UW Control is not necessarily the best matchup for Elves. I feel like it's around 50/50, but I found some success by just going all-in and not trying to play around too much. The more turns you give them to Terminus, the more likely they'll find it. If there's a lot of UW Control in your meta, Elves is probably not the best choice, but it's still a solid option. (I know my own 50/50 matchup analysis is not going to be agreed with by many.)

So... Would you do a 3 Chords/1 Lead split or vice versa? I am currently gonna try a 3 Lead 1 Chord version of GB Elves, with Clancallers.
I used to be a firm believer in 4 chords. Now I'm sold on 4 leads. Someone put it best (don't remember if it was here or reddit), but he said go chords if you are looking for combo pieces (GW elves). But GB since a lot of dudes to go wide and power up shaman, you want gas and gas is in lead the stampede.
I was exactly the same. I was also a HUGE believer in GW Elves over GB, but since doing GB, I can't imagine really going back, outside of a meta choice.

Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)I haven't played it because I don't dare run Collected Company in this meta, much less try to run a Green creature deck right now.

It hasn't been updated in a while. I haven't played Elves in a tournament in quite a while, but I play test at home like crazy. The whole 75 is foil and I just got 4 foil Cavern of Souls (glad I waited) and I literally don't know where to fit them in. I'm assuming the Blooming Marshes?

Gaddock Teeg is bad for that reason AND they have control about when they want to Path to Exile it or not. It's also not an Elf, so it has no other synergy with the deck, which wouldn't be the worst if it did more, but it just is a speed bump.
*I personally never found Loaming Shaman to be worthy in Modern. I always question the card whenever I see it in someone's 75. It's just my experience though.

Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)You could try Gaddock Teeg, but that's bad.

Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)I was exactly the same. I was also a HUGE believer in GW Elves over GB, but since doing GB, I can't imagine really going back, outside of a meta choice.
