Today, a Sydney $200 (ish??) + MM3 pack per win event, 48 players sold out.
Burn 2-0 W
Abzan 2-0 W
Jund 0-2 L
8 Rack (same guy) 2-0 W
Abzan 2-0 W
ID w/ mate on Bant Eldrazi
T8 Abzan 2-0 W
T4 GB Elves mirror 1-2 L (he has my 74/75 [59/60 , 14/15] cards and we talk shop a fair bit, the deck discrepancy mostly due to me forgetting to tell him I moved the Skite back into the main)
Hi all,
Occasional lurker and the elves player Syreal played in the T4. Report as below.
My differences to his list were:
MB +1 Nettle Sentinel, -1 Spellskite
SB +1 Spellskite, -1 Wilt-Leaf Liege
R1 Burn 2-0 (G1 draw) – Opponent didn’t seem familiar with the deck or with elves. Both games my T1 plays were not immediately killed (targeted me instead) and I built my board from there.
R2 UW Control 2-0 (G1 play?) – Didn’t see any red, which makes the matchup a lot easier. Played around the wrath G1 and rebuilt into double SotP for lethal. G2 Opp wasn’t able to find a 4th land.
R3 BTL Scapeshift 2-1 (G1 draw) – G1 beatdown Opp to 1 life, then got wrathed. Only drew lands after that. G2 thoughtseize did work slowing down their gameplan. Was able to SotP + chord for SotP for exact. G3 kept a filthy hand of fast mana and 2 coco (or coco + chord?). Opp wasn’t able to keep up.
R4 Affinity 2-1 (G1 play) – G1 my hand was a lot quicker and outraced. G2 mulled into a sketch keep. Opp was hellbent on T2, swinging for lethal T3. G3 kept a 1 land hand of dorks, heritage druid and fracturing gust, leaving Opp without a board or a hand on their T3. Opponent proceeded to tilt out.
R5 ID – won the pack
R6 ID – lost the pack
Top8 – 3rd seed
T8 Affinity (same as R4) 2-1 (G1 play) – G1 both sides mulled aggressively, but my hand was slower. G2 looked like Opp kept a sketch 7 and didn’t draw out of it. G3 kept a racing hand of fast mana + coco + chord. Drew into creeping corrosion and didn’t have a chance to play either. Opponent tilted again.
T4 Elves 2-1 (G1 play) – Match seemed pure luck. I drew more cocos/chords with better targets.
F Bant Eldrazi 2-0 (G1 play) – This matchup is awful for bant eldrazi. Kept hands which did something, which led to wins.
Also, a huge thanks to Syreal for putting up with me for over a year at our LGS discussing elves, our matchups, sideboarding, etc. I definitely would not have been able to do as well as I did without your advice!
