Gaea's Revenge really needed trample. It's also a in a very awkward part of the curve: for 1 less mana, you get Carnage Tyrant. For one more G, you get Craterhoof Behemoth.
Looking at my cube, I think I'm going to test this over Polukranos. I really don't want to cut Regal Behemoth since Wake effects are hard to comeby. I don't want to cut any other super fatties either or any of the 1-3 cmc Natural Order fodder. I like my 5-drops, so that basically leaves the 4-cmc creatures and I can live without Polly-K. I want green to have another trump to Control Magic effects, especially with Fractured Identity running around now. This also helps break through planeswalkers and their defense, especially with the new XLN rules coming up.
To me this feels a bit like greens version of Aetherling. Super hard to answer once resolved and... not the most interactive card ever. I'll probably test this out once we get closer to XLN but I don't want to cut the monarch six drop for it.
I don't think that's a great analogy since AEtherling is immune to sweepers / edicts as long as it has mana open, not to mention is unblockable and has psuedo-vigilance.
Mono green Sagu Mauler, now that's an analogy. Too bad this didn't come out during KTK or before, it definitely would've seen play then.
What we wanted 4 years ago isn't necessarily what we need 4 years later. My cube was a lot more value / midrange based back in the day but now it's much more defined by archetypes. I was a big fan of big, dumb creature back in the day, not so much anymore. I think I would've given this a shot if Gearhulk / Regal Behemoth weren't just printed in the past year, not sure if I have the space for this anymore.
Gearhulk has been...whelming? (not exactly underwhelming, just very meh) for us, and might be what I swap out for this (in 5 months). Behemoth also seems perfectly fine to replace with this, but that card is more interesting so I will probably keep it in.
I've been liking Gearhulk quite a bit, it has a lot of interactions and choices involved and is bigger / cheaper than Tyrant. Tyrant is much more resilient, but has zero useful interactions.
I feel like 6 power just makes it an expensive Kodama of the North Tree. I know 5 is a lot more competitive than six, but still. Maybe if you slapped on another ability (Regenerate, Intimidate, Vigilance, Reach, Uncounterable).
Ya maybe. I'd drop the toughness and make a 6 power version of Thrun.

Not bad, not great either. I don't like this more than Regal Behemoth, but I probably like this more than Honored Hydra. The comparison to Thrun / Inkwell is pretty spot on, but it lacks the massive butt that Inkwell has, but I guess the more castable CMC is the tradeoff there. I'll probably pass on this, mono-green Sagu Mauler isn't what I'm looking for in 2017.

Just take a sharpie to Plated Crusher and cross out third G and write in "can't be countered."
