Agreed. I think cards like Tyrant open more doors for green midrange decks than they do close doors for the rest of the field. If your goal is to create less feel bad moments, cards like Tyrant allow players playing midrange creature decks to not be helpless against blue control, which is a big net positive.
Costing 1 less mana is almost as big a deal as missing the 6th point of toughness, which is almost as big a deal as missing trample. All three of those things are really important. A comparison can be drawn, but Carnage Tyrant and Gaea's Revenge aren't even close in terms of powerlevel.
Despite all the 5s being great, I feel like I'm loaded at 5 and super light at 6. I'll probably make a swap in that CMC range just for curve considerations.
Kodama used to fill the role Thrun does now, he was just largely worse at the job. Carnage Tyrant is quite a bit different, and I expect it to be better (and completely different) than Kodama was.
The uncounterability certainly helps with green midrange's worst matchup, so it's definitely more relevant on a card like this than on a lot of other cards. It's still a narrow ability, but when it matters, it's really all that matters.
Well, I'm not "excited" because it's just a dude with stats. I think it'll be plenty good, but we have precedent to know how this card will play. Changing flying for +1/+0 and uncounterable isn't exactly breaking the mold compared to a finisher like Simic Sky Swallower, though I'll be happy to have a monster like this floating around as a bullet against draw-go control shells. A card can be unexciting but still be good.
I'm not super excited about this guy, but I'll probably test it because I think it's going to win games when it resolves.
I thought Gisela was going to be okay, but she's really been over-performing. She dies to cheap removal, but whenever she doesn't ...she just takes over the game in a way few other 4-drops can, and does so right away. Doing that with no additional mana investment and impacting both the offense and defense the way she can has been great. /aside
This is a good card, and it might be playable in my 540 cube, but I do think Gearhulk is better. I'll be giving this a trial run though ...because it's a giant, uncounterable, trampling, untargetable DINOSAUR. And it's probably the best 6cc green creature not named Primeval Titan, despite being a bit boring. This thing will still win games.
It'll get the job done, albeit relatively boring. Simic Sky Swallower can still close out games, but the double evasion brings a lot of its value. I might test this though, the uncounerable can matter on a big green creature (where you have a particular vulnerability to control) and it has good stats. I wish it could regenerate like Thrun though, this can get traded away in combat for a couple of beasts, and there's not much that can be done about it.

Carnage Tyrant isn't the most interesting creature, but it's still gonna kill some fools.
