Seriously isn't this guy the bomb 4 drop card advantage engine that we have been looking for? Combos with souls wonderfully, grows oozes, lili's and the rest of the team if we run Township. He is bolt proof and the pro-humans is surprisingly relevant.
What do we think about 2 of him as a top end to bring back original abzan?
I think one would need a way to abuse the proliferate ability to consider this guy.
the problem is that he needs to survive one turn before you get to use him and also this makes him a terrible topdeck, unfortunately. kinda rough I feel.
He's a better top-deck than discard in many situations. Twenty-turn clock!
Had to swap a trophy for a decay and Lili the last hope for a LoTV due to card availability. Matchups were as follows;
Amulet 2-0
Hollow One 2-0
Burn 1-2
Humans 2-0.
Humans 2-0
I.D.
Quarters
Mardu Phoenix Pyro 0-2.
Bob was stellar this weekend. Against humans he drew me into so much removal it was a cakewalk. Finks and tracker from the sideboard won plenty of games. Ive been jamming this list a lot and it feels great. Not much I would change presently.
Wheel of Sun and Moon is pretty close to a silver bullet against Dredge and it is very good against any other graveyard strategy. One would need to run three to have a good shot at seeing it in the draw so I guess it's just down to how many slots does one dedicate to grave hate. One could run just one or two and hope for the best, I suppose.
Wheel is Tarmogoyf friendly, unlike Rest in Peace. The latter is of course, better against the strategies one would want to use Wheel against except for the Goyf friendliness, which is actually pretty important.
Wheel of sun and moon is so good righr now and this deck can cast easily
It takes a good number of GW sources to drop it turn-two reliably, but I'm too lazy to look it up or do the math. I play the Wheel in a GW deck and I gave some thought to using it in the Rock, but the Rock doesn't really run enough G sources, at least typically.
In addition to hosing graveyard strategies, it pretty much kicks Mill in the groin as well.
@pzbw7z in what matchup do you want Phyrexian Obliterator? You might actually tro to jump through some hoops (read Dromoka's Command) if you want to run him. Just dodge blood moons.
Obliterock was the flavor of the month a years years ago. It's just nostalgia. It's a fun card for FNM. I did play it for quite a while.
Many weeks ago, I had the very great pleasure of playing against Tron and Eldrazi Tron in the same FNM. Afterward, I built a GQ Rock deck with these two match-ups in mind. Naturally, I didn't see another Urza land for months.
But tonight I finally got paired with Eldrazi Tron in the ultimate round of tonight's FNM and took home the prize packs.
The bucket loads of land destruction didn't play a huge role. In fact, the Rock Stars tonight were Maelstrom Pulse (two early Walking Ballistas and several two-for-ones versus the Elves) and Abrupt Decay (Chalice of the Void on two). Grim Flayer helped a bunch in recovering from Relic of Progenitus shenanigans as did Ghost Quarter. Bob pulled his weight overall tonight - for the first time in I can't remember how long - and both Lilianas contributed.
In addition to the E-Tron, I played GW Elves and a bad standard deck.
All this means that I can now perhaps let this obsession go and play something different. I am thinking Traverse Rock with a copy of Rex or Rock with a soupçon of W with Murmuring Bosk.
I already plan to swap a Marsh Flat for a Windswept Heath, that is, if I keep this pile together. Any criticism one might care to bring up is probably valid, but it was a special project and my main-deck isn't that different from Sol's in the primer. BTW, did the example Ghost Quarter deck get switched recently? That doesn't seem to be the one I remember starting with.
How’d the removal suite look? Any suggestions there? I’m just not sure exactly what I’m going for here. Is this Jund with some minor changes/replacements, or am I truly playing a different archetype? I do know that Bob and Tracker make some stupid CA.
Your removal suite is probably commonly used but I don't like four of either Assassin's Trophy or Fatal Push. One reason is Meddling Mage. But there are downsides with both cards that are significant. There is no one-CMC removal spell really worth consideration for the main-deck, but there are several options. Abrupt Decay does not suck regardless of current, conventional wisdom. I like two copies of Maelstrom Pulse.
But the big thing is I am almost certain to see Humans every FNM.
I've been considering Abzan (or more like GB splashing white than true Abzan) to get access to RIP for this match-up. Creeping Chill has to hit the GY to trigger, so why not prevent it from getting there in the first place?
The obvious downside though is that it is a NOBO with Goyf/Lingering Souls. Perhaps take those out in this match-up and replace with something less GY reliant? Possibly a terrible idea as I am still new to this archetype. I am not sure I want Leyline of the Void though as this deck doesn't have access to looting effects to pitch it when top-decked mid/late game.
There are a couple of effects to pitch Leylines or other junk. Neither is looting but Collective Brutality benefits from Escalation. Lili doesn't care if you have a card or not, but if you have more than one and one happens to be a superfluous Leyline, there's a little benefit there.
I am unsure what the best creature configuration in BG currently is.
Has the 4 Tracker/2 Tasigur configuration become mainstream or are people still toying around with Kalitas?
I am currently leaning towards 3 Ooze, 4 Goyf, 4 Tracker, 1 Kalitas, 1 Tasigur, mainly because I really like Kalitas in the current meta, but then again, I haven't been playing with Rock for several months.
A Spirit token is probably the best sword carrier.
What I've seen so far, is generally three - occasionally four - SFM with one sword and one Batterskull. Which sword is a point of contention.
