Collector Boosters: 15 cards and 1 foil token. Includes 1 rare/mythic w/ extended art, 1 foil rare/mythic, 9 foil commons/uncommons, 3 special frame cards (showcase or borderless planeswalkers), 1 ancillary card, 1 foil token. 25 dollars each.
Yeah... I am absolutely not a fan of the collector booster concept here. Sounds like another Hasbro exclusive again and the last two times was an absolute fiasco. At least the normal boosters have a chance at the Showcase cards....
I love the art work on this one and fully intend on getting the three versions.
However, the story book thing and frame changes are eh... another frame change? Again? I guess the storybook thing is finally a recognition for what these cards have always been, pages out of a book?
The layout reminds me a bit of the annoying Level Up mechanic. At least the layout is no where as bad as the Amonkhet split cards so there’s that.
The end of paper Magic tournaments is nigh. All the "pro" events and qualifiers will be through Arena starting in 2020. Profit margins are higher, and there's no need for judges or TOs, or to scrounge enough physical product on hand to supply players and have prize support.
I would also not be surprised if the announcement stated that "Throne of Eldraine" will be the last paper Magic product.
This just feels like catastrophising to me. There's no real reason to suspect this will happen any time soon.
I recall reading that WotC averages $75 per person on Arena. Not sure if this is per month or what. If we assume it's per month, there is a lot of room for growth before "shutting down" paper Magic.
WotC has to feel they've reached a tipping point where the loss of paper players is more than offset by the gain in digital players. Which is fine. The only money WotC sees from me is through paper Magic. So the harsh reality is that I won't be following Magic to the digital side with my wallet unless I see the necessary value in doing so. I'm sure a not-insignificant portion of the paper players feel the same way.
I'll say that the changes that will be talked about might have something to do with Arena's Historic format that was discussed a while back.

It would be Moat-Lite. About 30% of the calories and 90% cheaper.
He did mention Archery so...?
