EDIT: There is one item that I placed on the 2020 list that has not seen a release window, I'm realizing, and that is the Zendikar Rising Gift Bundle. So I suppose that can be added to the "future release" number, rather than the current release number. Apologies.
I'm sure it'll come out in December for Christmas. It's unlikely to have the printing issues the rest of the set had.
You're taking this very personally. If you need to use the ignore button, feel free.
No, I'm perfectly fine talking about this stuff. If you wish to talk about this I'm fine with it, but I will call you out when you're absolutely wrong.
I mean, I own SL Lightning Bolts, it may be one of the most played Magic cards of all time. Bad example.
No, it is. Why would I want to spend $30 on four when I can buy the same amount for less than $7? If I wanted to buy different arts I can buy three for $10. If you want different arts then that's great, but I'd rather not spend more than four times the amount to buy the same card.
Ikoria doesn't have planeswalker decks, neither does Zendikar. We've gotten less of them this year than any year in the last 5 years.
Okay....so you admit that they came out. Thanks for agreeing with me.
So no 30 card starter decks, right?
They exist, just not to be bought.
What is hard about this to understand?
Honestly? Everything that you are posting here is rather difficult to understand. You mentioned that they didn't come out when in fact they did. Doesn't matter if they were brought out less, were more popular, or cheap. They in fact came out and you said they did not. That's it. You don't have to move goalposts, just admit you were wrong.
Everything I listed is either printed less this year, or is analogous but better than something they have been printing. Do you have a list of everything they've released over the last few years, or do you just feel like there have been more in some years than others? <snip>
I created a list earlier that you seemed to have a problem with, it's not my fault that you didn't believe it.
-----------------------
As it turns out another poster created a much more thorough list and it does prove the list that I mentioned and what I've said in the past. It shows the last two years is filled with 20+ more products than 2+ years ago. It is nice to see the list though, albeit I would have listed them as the singular product when it came to things like Theme Boosters rather than each individual theme booster as it clogs the list, but that's me.
What's even funnier is that 2020 isn't even over yet and there could be more products that come out, especially when it comes to Secret Lairs and that could have another 2-7.
The number of overall products feels lower to me, they're just more desirable.
Are they though? When was the last time you ran out to go get theme boosters? When was the last time you went "Oh man, I want to spend $30 on a playset of Lightning Bolt."
We didn't get any of those Planeswalker decks with unplayable trashwalkers,
Ikoria, Theros 2, and M21 had them.
we didn't get any of those weird 30 card starter decks that didn't help new players learn,
Aren't those still given out to people at game stores? Those haven't been a thing in stores for a while.
no deckbuilders tool kit
Theros: Beyond Death had it.
no precons other than the ones mentioned,
So there were precons.
no duel decks of questionable theme and value,
The Arena Starter Kit.
no Game Night, no board game.
Unsanctioned.
Did you just forget the products that came out this year? Pretty much all of what you said didn't come out actually did. You know there's a wiki on this site you can look this stuff up.
I haven't seen an accuraye overall comparison of the number of total unique products per year though, just people listing off stuff they remember, and people having different goal posts in mind when deciding which ones count and which ones are analogous to others and such.
What? No, seriously. What? Certain products don't count when it comes to counting the products? What?
Zendikar didn't have commander like Eldraine had brawl, the commander decks are the new intro decks that have replaced planeswalker decks for non-core sets.
That's all the same to me.
Whats with this number? If your adding the start commander decks then you need to point that out since your counting them twice on this list.
The snarky comment is basic arithmetic. The non snarky comment is we normally have 4 or 5 commander decks a year, we've had an extra two and we'll have another two. Then when you realize they are pushing commander more and when 5+2+2=9 then that's where those numbers come from.
They clarified the two Innistrad set thing. The second set is the set they normally put out in Jan/Feb (so Theros Beyond Death this year) and moving it up to catch the holiday spending.
Well that just makes things worse and only helps what I was saying.
I can see how this can be a bit fatiguing for the people who feel the need to get everything but don't have the means to do so. I'm not unsympathetic to that, but I also recognize it as part of life. We don't always get the things we want, or even need. And that's okay.
See, I'm in the camp of being able to get it all, but I am still tired of all of these releases. None of them can breathe before you're on the hype train again except I'm buying less and less tickets to ride on that train. I want to support the game, but I won't support this nonstop deluge of product nor this microtransaction era Magic has stepped into.
All of these products do is exhaust me not get me excited. I should never see a product be announced and go "*groan* Another ****ing one?!"
Thanks for breaking it all down. That is so many new products to keep up with.
After writing down just the stuff we do know and adding in a couple high possibilities even I sat there and felt bad for seeing it all. What's worse is that there is near zero exaggeration in that list, outside of the wild guesses at least. A couple may not happen, but that doesn't take away from the near 50 products they're likely to put out next year.
I even forgot to put down another Spellbook on that list.
Is that going to somehow change the number of releases this year or next year?
Nope, there's going to still be....
-Four main sets, all with a Secret Lair and possibly another product connected to it (ex. Eldraine had Brawl, Ikoria had Commander, M21 had Jumpstart, Zendikar had Commander, and Commander Legends has Commander)
-Masterpieces returning for one set
-Two or three other supplemental sets, one being a Masters set with $10+ boosters, one most likely with a multiplayer component (Battlebond 2/Conspiracy 3) these may end up with Secret Lairs of their own
-Between 4-10 Commander decks
-A "board game" product that no one will buy, unless it's Planechase/Archenemy
-Likely something connecting to Arena
-Another set of Event decks
-Commander Collection: <color>
-2-5 Secret Lairs per month outside the crossover Secret Lairs, possibly with a bundle option and possibly a reprint of the Walking Dead SL. My guess is at least 25 SL throughout 2021.
-A super bundle of some sort like from Eldraine
-What is likely to be another type of booster for Innistrad 3, thanks to the two different set thing (look back at the last few years and see they've been adding a booster each year)
-Gift Bundle for Innistrad 3 or a holiday pack of some sort
Edit: Another Spellbook (I want to guess Nissa)
-Wild Guess - They try and push Brawl again with another four decks
-Wild Guess - They get rid of Theme Boosters
-Wild Guess - They change The List at least once
-Wild Guess - Commander Legends Commander decks will be $60-$100 for no reason.
-Wild Guess - Another new format for Arena
I don’t really get the complaint about too much sealed product. I take issue with WotC releasing extremely in-demand cards in annoyingly limited ways, but releasing stuff like Commander Legends, Jumpstart, Masters, etc is fine. You don’t have to buy every sealed product. You can just buy singles and these types of products make buying in-demand cards cheaper. Complain about VIP Boosters and Ultimate Secret Lairs, not too many opportunities to get the cards you want at lower prices.
I pretty much only buy singles (minus some packs and a bundle of a set), skip collectors/VIP boosters, Masters sets, and Secret Lairs and it's getting me bogged down. There's just way too many products and by the time one comes out they are already hyping the next set two weeks later and sprinkled in is more Secret Lairs. The last few years we've added on another booster every year. I really don't want to know what comes next year.
Earlier this year when they announced Jumpstart was being pushed back a bit I sat there and though "What's Jumpstart" because there were so many products that I couldn't keep them straight. Considering how rare the packs are, I've only been able to acquire two of them, I practically forget the set even exists still thanks to the printing so far behind.
Spoiler Season is Eternal.
Spoiler Season is Always.
Can't let you catch breath, spoil, spoil, spoil, consume, consume, consume!!!!!!
And I'm sure between now and then we'll have 2-5 Secret Lairs spoiled that they can't ship until March of next year.
Amazing with a plague, protesting, an election year and you really needed to come to a magic forum to look for a reason to ***** huh?
It's a joke, not a <expletive D-eleted>, don't take it so hard. Also, no idea what those things have to do with anything when it comes to a game, but good on you for bringing those up. "There are worse things out there so you can't complain" is one of the worst arguments ever. Yay for you for not being able to see a joke and also <expletive deleted>'ing about something at the same time even though you're lambasting me for doing said <expletive deleted>. Congrats!
