I personally really admire this card, but I notice it seemed to kiiinda be popular when it first came out, then just sorta faded away.
Is it perhaps too slow for whatever deck it might be included in?
I'm trying this sort of mid-rangish Elf-Aggro deck and it seems to be pretty hot in there. It can trade with a lotta things and there's usually some way to fetch him back the next turn.
Masked Admirers is pretty cool, but a bit expensive for what it does. It's way too small possible to be considered aggressive at the 4-drop, not when aggro-minded decks can lay down 4/4 and 5/4s at the 3-drop. It's also rather expensive to recur, as you want to be laying down beaters such as Chameleon Colossus or Oversoul after turn 4, which doesn't leave enough mana open to recur a dead Admirers.

No, it isn't fast enough for aggro, but given that it's a card-advantage engine, it says control to me.
Trouble is, it also asks for a pretty heavy green commitment, and there just isn't fixings for a green control deck right now. Most green decks are aggro, which is why Azriel didn't mention control in his post (I'm guessing).
5CC is heavily green but Mulldrifter is usually better in those lists. Cham Coll and Garruk fill up the four spot in Elves. Simply put I think it just doesn't do anything well enough. It was good untill Brmblewood Paragon and CC hit Standard.
He's just too big to cast for most elf aggro decks. And fair enough, he gives card advantage, the spot is just filled with better creatures e.g. Chameleon Colossus etc.
he's an amazing shaman card, due to leaf-crowned elder being capable of casting free creature spells. aside from that, he's just too expensive for anything.
I think its a great card, and shouldnt be run as more than a 2-of.
I run 2 in my g/b midrange deck. A little card draw is needed. Plus its a recurrable creature with a decent body. Provides another beater when I swing for the win with Profane giving my guys fear.
Anywho, I was looking at it for Jund Ramp, but it just wasn't working out. If you are playing mono green, Garruk is better. GB, Profane is better. You just have to make do with card quality over quantity for now.
I do agree that the 4CC slot is too crowded for most decks that would want him. However as an added plus to him, keep in mind that he does make a late-drawn Llanowar Elves much better if he's dead.

Thanks very much for the solid input. I do totally get what you're saying.
He was actually working fairly well in my G/B elves for what it's worth, but as most of you pointed out, as cool as he can be at times there's just better options in the 4 drop slot.
Heh, I noticed I had like 11-12 cards in the 4 drop slot between him, Garruk, Colossus and Wilt-Leaf. So point well taken.
And DAMN, I really like the idea of Leaf-Crowned Elder and him. Maybe not tier 1, but sounds hot, I love those out of left field ideas.
I thought this card was pretty good for decks that had trouble with heavy control (yes, in this case it's better to run him over CC... Though I don't find the cards really comparable as MA is a 1-2 of while CC is a 3-4).
However, given people's flock mentality I'm not surprised at the omnipresence of CC.
I used to use him in a quillspike deck until elvish visionary got printed, along with gift of the gargauntan. pre-shards it gave green a decent compliment to draw with harmonize(which I pray one day will see a reprint.). it's not a bad card, but it's also too situational. the same can be said for Gift, however.
gah, I wish green had some better draw right now.

I think it's another example of a decent card that came at the wrong time. It's a long game card advantage engine, but right now playing multiple colors is so absurdly easy that there's no reason for a long game deck not to use superior blue options.

5CC is heavily green? really? only green spell in 5CC is Cloudthresher. And finks and bant charm, but that's not purely green. Blue>White>Green>Red>Black is the order of importance of colors in 5CC.
GB Elves <-man I hate this deck, it has a 50/50 matchup against Tier 1/2 but loses to jank aggro most of the time. UB Faeries <-only reason it's good is because of all those people that's still playing 5CC. WB Tokens <-so boring, there's only 2 ways to play this deck. RB Blightning <-Autopilotting you to victory 0-2 drop.
???B Super Secret Tech <-dude, this thing is nuts! 90/10 against all matchups.

This. Is why it's very bad now. Course, before Shards was printed, it wasn't played because of Chameleon Colossus.
