with jund running 27 lands in most builds plus rampant growth or explore, ruinblaster really has lost its edge-people think its a tempo advantage but it's not, because instead of playing a BBelf you played a little 2/1 that with the opponent likely running rampant growth-has done little to gain yourself any tempo.
If you play sedraxis jund though Spreading seas is GREAT anti jund tech-comes in early enough to really screw the opponent and gains a big tempo advantage

RB'er IS a tempo gain.
there is not an endless supply of lands in the deck.
cutting out a dual land or savage lands not only keeps them from playing a BBE or ruinblaster of their own, but could manascrew them as well.
now lets say you have 2+ ruinblasters.. they are really screwed quite often.
you can also cascade into a ruinblaster and drop 2 bodies while again setting them back in tempo.
worst case scenario you have seriously delayed their ability to play a dragon or siegegang until very late in the game while dropping some early beaters on the table.
I have had too many games last week where I got double ruinblastered and once even triple ruinblastered and I won anyways, I have to say that ruinblaster seems bad in the mirror these days.
sure its possible to still win. but he seriously hurts your chances in most games.
its a 2 for 1 just like BBE.
its also possible to still win if an opponent drops 4 BBEs as well.
who cares if they ramped, ruinblaster sets them to where they didnt ramp, thats a turn behind, they used a card to ramp, thats 1 less card in their hand, ruinblaster made it completely ineffectual.
Its card advantage and makes the opponent play at a slower pace.
Ruinblaster is not as good as it used to be, but it's still solid at killing man lands or punishing greedy draws. I went from 4 to 3 in the side for this.
Not to mention it can kill other problem lands (including Eye of Ugin and Eldrazi Temple in the next set).

Your name is long, and you live in Bakersfield (I am sorry. This is not meant to be an insult, but Bakersfield is my own personal hell and also where my in-laws reside. YAY!! Buck Owens)
Anyway, I have been playing Grim Discovery in my SB for mirror (and UW since they Edge), have 27 lands, no rampant etc..
I won after being ruinblasted 3 times and having my dragons pulsed and terminated also thrice. I drew 2 discoveries and kept ripping land when necessary.
Long story short....Ruinblaster seems less effective a plan as the days of yore (like 2 months ago). I would love to see you meta where you could actually warrant this guy in the MD.
ruinblaster is still a house.
after being ruinblasted there is no guarantee you will even have black mana to cast that grim discovery. and the vast majority of jund players dont play grim discovery.
you also still lose tempo. there probably wont be a creature in your yard that early. and you are using your only mana to cast GD. their tempo gain + a creature has had its effect.

this is a good point, but I kindly diasgree.
I mean, sometimes you will just cascade into GD (not oft)
I also generally sandbag it until they eff with my mana, I have not yet cast a grim before t6. It is a good way to get back Broodmates or Bloodbraids, which is generally how I use it.
The GP Brussels winner had 2 in his SB also. Not a majority, but someone thinks it is good enough to warrant in the SB.
the only thing I see here is that Ruinblaster is still a tempo play, and generally that is good enough because Jund stumbles a lot. But it is not so good if you don't have anything to back your tempo gain up with.
His matchups and other top 8's (if you read the reports) all see ruinblater as the cause of a loss. I have no idea how someone could be like "Oh I guess I don't have 3/4 land in play next turn" with a 2/1 haster then claim it had no effect on the game whatsoever. Even if it stalled board position and no attacks or trades were being done the ruinblaster NEEDS to be followed up (obviously). Trust me, if you got ruinblastered 3 times, and somehow pulled it off, you are in the grave minority, I play online at a regular basis, and I see people fold after the first ruinblaster. So how you pull wins because you topdeck like a champion, is not the majority view of how godly the card is seen as.
Just because someone wins a game where they got Ruinblastered, doesn't mean it is bad. I have won games where I my opponent played 3 Bloodbraids even! Sometimes a single t4 ruinblaster still ends games and it you mulligan then you really better hope you don't see it. I'll be more than happy if I have nothing to worry about due to my opponent not playing Ruinblasters because I will have a trump that he does not. Sure, Ruinblaster doesn't always get there, but it doesn't always have to single handedly win the game. Setting them back on tempo to set them back a turn from their 5-6 drops is powerful during a game. Some winning versions are also running Rampant Growth effects which means Ruinblaster's power rises.
Guys, what is your say about Ruinblaster being played by other decks against Jund? Is it still worth running it to gain tempo? Or the Jund mage will just feel a slight bump or delay when it hits play?
i really like ruinblaster and the synergy it has with SGC.
it sets UW back so much and is a great answer for manlands.
it does kill tempo real well.
i think its only a matter of time before i mainboard it to combat nonbasics.

i say nay to demolish.
you have pulse for artifacts.
and you cant cascade into demolish.
cuz if you just add R to ruinblaster off the cascade
you have the LD.

"Hah! Banefire? Real men cycle Resounding Thunder."
have been trying the ruinblaster and Roiling Terrain and it has been wrecking people. 3 RB and 4 RT .....I know that seems alot, but with all the fetches and manlands galore, and some decklists absolutely abusing lands in the yard(KoTR), doing that damage + possibly colorscrewing an opponent is awesome. Might be a mistake, but I'm going to a 1K tourney tommorow with Rolling Terrain as my sideboard tech. Might pay off....might get my teeth kicked in.

Everyone needs to stop thinking about the mirror match for ruinblaster, Goblin ruinblaster isnt that narrow, in the midwest master series in chicago i sided in ruinblaster against RDW w/Blightning splash, UW control, Mythic and the Mirror, i lost a game to mytic @ x-1 because of not siding in ruinblasters to deal w/ colonade. Ruinblaster is very good i suggest 4 in the board

Agreed. It's not just for tempo gain vs Jund and that's its only purpose...it helps vs UW control and RDWb as well.
To a smaller note: The random Valakut deck sometimes you face. (FNM)
In the mirror Ruinblaster is good if you're on the play, you you're goal is to go into turn 4 and set them back to turn 2 by destroying their one of there 3 lands.
On the draw however you will want to take your Ruinblasters out, chances are they will hit the Ruinblaster first so you'll need to play more reactively with 3 drop spells as getting to 4 mana may be difficult for the first few turns. Stay on the defense with stags & thrinaxs and hit them with well timed blightnings & mind rots.
What are your thoughts on this card?

it also can be sided against random crypt, valakut decks and even against the newer RDWs with B

He had 4 Ruinblasters, and 2 Anathemancer according to the decklist on http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/eventcoverage/gpbru10/top8decks (thought I'd clear that up)

You may as well play Acidic Slime over Demolish if you want those options. Staying away from bad cards tends to give you more wins.
