Because some people are asking me if I know how to set one up and I have no clue wtf they're talking about.
I know it stands for Internet Information Services. Can someone give me a run down on how it works and what it does...? Perferable in laymen terms..
Hey thanks. I thought IIS came with windows tho. Also could someone explain exactly what it does? From what's I've read online, it's bascially a sort of gateway that takes requests from clients and then retreives the approperate data from the server and sents in back to the client. Let me know if I was close...it's really confusing..

It's a web server. You have generally the right idea. It listens for requests from people's web browsers and spits back web pages.
Older versions of Windows did not come with IIS. Maybe that's what they're talking about? Even if it is shipped as part of newer versions (which I know nothing about) it still has to be configured...maybe that's what they want.
