I'm new to Magic The Gathering and I started a knight Deck but I don't know if it is good or what else should I put in it. At the beggining it was a mono white knight deck but now it is a WG knight deck... I Really need your advice please
1 Concerted Effort
4 Path to Exile
4 Oblivion Ring
4 Rancor
2 Shield of the Oversoul ( 2 more to come )
2 Knight of the White Orchid
4 Knight Exemplar
4 Wilt-Leaf Liege
4 Wilt-Leaf Cavaliers
4 Knight of the New Alara
4 Leonin Skyhunter
1 Kinsbaile Cavalier ( 1 more to come )
I thought about Door of Destinies or Light from Within if I turn back to mono white.
I'm playing 1vs1 right now but soon we will be more players. The guy i'm playing with has a strong treefolk deck ans and also a strong elf deck... well... he has 15 decks or so they are all good..
I wanted to put a lot of money in one deck but I don't know what I could do to compete with his decks, that's why I need your advices
Thanks for your help! ( sorry for the language, I usually speak french. )
Light from Within and Door of Destinies are not worth your money because they're bad cards. By the time you could play them, you should be nearly done with the game.
A few notes:
Knight of New Alara is bad here. Only the Liege and Wilt-Leaf Cavaliers (or another Knight of New Alara) get the +2+2 bonus it offers, and it won't give a +1/+1 bonus to any of the monowhite creatures. If you want to use Knight of New Alara, look into Bant Sureblade and the rest of the -blade cycle from that set. His mana cost is too high for such a weak creature with an ability that's only relevant half the time.
-4 Knight of New Alara
Concerted Effort is too much mana and just doesn't do enough here. The only thing it does is give first strike and flying to other creatures if you have a specific creature out (or trample, if you have Rancor on one guy). It's four mana and doesn't even do anything on it's own. Let alone, you're not even using half of it's abilities as 2 of your best abilities are given to all of your creatures anyway (indestructible, double strike).
-1 Concerted Effort
Shield of the Oversoul, and any aura not named Rancor, is bad. Terribly bad in every regard. You have your Knight Exemplars to make your guys indestructible, and if you cast Shield of the Oversoul on one of your creatures without indestructibility, the creature you're enchanting can still be killed in response, before the Shield actually enchants the creature, meaning you lose 2 cards for the opponent's one. Terrible.
-2 Shield of the Oversoul.
This decks mana cost is too high; Knights can be quite fast. Knight of Meadowgrain is excellent, as is Knight of the Holy Nimbus. The ABSOLUTE best thing you can add to this deck is Student of Warfare, since you can cast it first turn and buff it little by little until the late game.
In all honesty; I'd drop green entirely. Rancor is good, but you want to swarm. Brave the Elements, in most regards, will work out better for a weenie deck (Rancor is best on a fattie with no evasion). You can use it to protect your creatures from inopportune removal for only one white, but also gain the flexibility to make all of your creatures unblockable against a specific color (IE, if the opponent has a Doran, the Siege Tower, Treefolk Harbinger and Bosk Banneret, if you name green then the opponent simply cannot block any of your creatures).
-4 Rancor (I never thought I'd see myself saying this...)
So, try out this suggestion:
+4 Student of Warfare
+4 Knight of Meadowgrain
+3 Brave the Elements
I'd really like to see two more Kinsbaile Cavaliers in here (as they're amazing. Did you know that since double strike is first strike + regular combat damage, you can block an attacking Woolly Thoctar with just a Kinsbaile Cavalier and a Knight of the White Orchid, kill the Thoctar and not lose a single creature? It's because you deal first strike damage first, and gang-blocking with that can turn your forces into an impenetrable wall).
Truthfully, green doesn't seem to be helping much, aside from Rancor (which, in a deck like this I'd consider Brave the Elements as being better) as none of your creatures that are worth anything require green mana. I'd try out the above; your deck will move faster, and with Brave the Elements, no Treefolk deck should be able to beat you.
ExImperial Dragon, your answer is amazing, never seen one so constructive.
I've tried something with my cards I have but that were not in my deck.
-4 Rancor
-1 Concerted Effort
-4 Wilt Leaf Liege
-4 Knight of the new alara
-2 Shield of the oversoul
and added
+3 Kinsbaile cavalier
+2 knight of the white orchid
+4 Sigiled paladin
+4 knight of the meadowgrain
+4 armored ascension
for a total of 60 cards. I like armored because if i take out the doors or light from within or even the wilt leaf liege ( which i find weak since it's not a green"white deck anymore) my cards will not be strong... i know it will be double strike but a 4/4 or 5/5 double strike is not THAT strong
what do you think about Stillmoon cavalier? I have Ajani Goldmane, Garruk Wildspeaker and 2 Sun titan also?
Favorable destiny can make my knights protected from exile or other spells that could take them out when they are indestructible.
Also, is it a good Idea to turn my deck into a Flanking Knight Deck? there are a lot of flanking knights and also the one who gives flanking to a knight who already has flanking... if you have 4 of the on the table... each attacking or blocking knight has does -5/-5 to ennemy's creatures.
I want to build a VERY strong deck, and I am aware I will have to use my money, but that's what I want so i'll buy whatever it takes to make my deck strong enough so I don't know what else to put in it
EDIT: Just took a look at the Slivers.... These are a good Tribal deck, much better than tribal knights no? they all boost each other; all slivers have flanking, all slivers have +1/+1, all slivers have first strike, all slivers have protection from the color of your choice, etc....
I want to build a VERY strong deck, and I am aware I will have to use my money, but that's what I want so i'll buy whatever it takes to make my deck strong enough so I don't know what else to put in it
In that case, try this list. Saw it a guy playing it in my area recently with decent results. It's GW so it fits your colors =)
That means if you have 4 Sidewinder Slivers and 4 Cavalry Master on the table, each of your 4 Sliver has does -7/-7 to ennemies every time they attack or block? wow... that's strong... then why not going for a full sliver deck?!
TheWarden, could you take a look to my topic--- Tribal: Knight
I read your signature and you must know everything since you play for more than 15 years
(quoted from other thread)
Howdy again.
It's looking pretty good now that you got some help there.
However, in both threads you posted in you seem to interpret flanking incorrectly. I'd urge you to read it very carefully. Flanking only triggers when your creature attacks, and only if your creature is blocked; then the other creature will get the -1/-1 if it doesn't have flanking. It's an old mechanic and it's a little inelegant. But it is a nice mechanic for an aggro deck since it helps to make your creatures "bigger" in combat on same time scale as the other guy's critters.
If you need more combat examples, let us know.
I say inelegant, because Wizards reinvented flanking and made it "better" and more sensical with bushido - see Devoted Retainer.
Your questions about tribes and their power levels are good. In casual, you can play anything, but certain tribes are better than others. Generally, the more support Wizards gives a tribe, the better it is. Slivers are very powerful since all the cards give each other bonuses, they work well with each other, and slivers are often really broken in casual (unfair?) anyway. The most powerful tribes are some of these that show up all the time: goblins, elves, soldiers, clerics, wizards, merfolk, faeries, slivers... etc.
Knights are not a powerful tribe. They don't get much support. Generally soldiers get support and their weenies are better for quick aggro decks. HOWEVER, Knights did recently get the single best support card for Knight decks in all of their history. I am talking about Knight Exemplar and if you can afford them you can certainly do well with Knights. Haakon, Stromgald Scourge is also a powerful Knight support card, but you really have to build the whole style of deck around him. Kinsbale Cavalier is up there on Knight support too, it's pretty rediculus. Back when I made my first Knight deck I had Zhalfirin Commander - weak. (I still have him in my flanking deck for fun though.)
This doesn't mean Knights don't have powerful cards, they certainly do. There are some decent weenies in the past and some new ones in MBS I think.
Feel free to use me as a casual resource if you have more questions.
Wow I love this forum, people like you make me wan't to play even more! Your explanations are really helpfull and clear.
I Started Magic a month ago and really like the white and green cards. However, I have card of all colors so I could possibly start any king of deck ( I buy them one by one ). The thing is that I want to make a very strong deck because I play against a guy who has 15 decks and some of them are good enough to play in competition so That's why I want to invest in one hell of a deck.
I have a casual knight tribal deck that wrecks a lot of what I have played it against. I've consistantly beaten merfolk, elves, and goblins (the goblins is near legacy build and over $240 I think). Anyone that doesn't believe in knights doesn't know crap IMO. Not saying they are the best out there but they will hold their own against any tribes out there I believe. Having said that my deck runs playsets of student of warfare, kinsbaile cavaliers, knight of the holy nimbus(you do like flanking), knight of the white orchid, knight exemplar, swords to plowshares, honor of the pure as well as paladin en vec which will be replaced with that new double strike knight coming on in the new set.
Sorry I didnt put deck/card tags. I'm on an iPhone. You could also run Æther vial to speed it up slightly though I personally didn't see it helping my build that much (it does wonders for the goblin deck I mentioned though).

I'd leave the O-rings to the sideboard, and stick with good removal like your paths and swords to plowshares.
If you do go mono-white (you can still include hybrid cards like Wilt Leaf Cavs and Stillmoon) it also gives you Emeria, the Sky Ruin for some late game goodness.

The guy I play with has huge decks and I read a little about primers... Should I start over with Faerie, merfolk, slivers or others?
This is casual, so I would suggest you play whatever you like =).
I don't remember my list running any of the power 9 though (if that's what you're referring).
But to beat competitive tier decks you'll probably need a deck on a similar level (however, do note that it doesn't have to be an established deck archetype, even Rogue decks do Top8 tourneys, thus I recommended you to play what you prefer).

I really like my Knight deck but I feel there is not enough synergy... for exemple, if I take 2-3 path to exile or any other removal... the cards that make my deck a strong deck ( knight exemplar, kinsbaile cavalier ) are aimed and then I cannot do anything...
I would love something that every cards effects every other cards so my opponent won't know which one to take out because there will be so many useful cards.

From my prior list:
Umezawa's Jitte makes every single creature a threat. SoLS and SoFI gives protection from specific removals.
Why not proxy the list and try it out? (saves some cash before dropping tons of it into a deck, and finding out you don't like it, wasting precious cash).
From experience in playing in tourneys, for aggro decks, have either tons of threats (goblins), tons of lords (elves and merfolk), metagame leverage (merfolk/zoo), disruption package (merfolk, rock/eva green).
Other decks with aggro elements involves a control shell with a beatstick as a wincon or a combo shell that cheats a fatty with protection from most removal (emrakul, akroma, inkwell leviathan).
If I would recommend a tribe, I would suggest elves (combo-aggro route), merfolk (aggro-control route) or goblins (aggro-control somewhat route).

This is all the Ideas that came to my mind... Greater Auramancy is there basically to protect concerted effort and light from within to pump my little knights
Here is my knight deck which is pure aggro and one of the best decks in my whole meta. Just to give an example of aggro knights as none of your builds quite fit pure aggro. Other options for aggro can include Knight of the White Orchid, Umezawa's Jitte, Aether Vial and Skullclamp (if you're group allows it)
Instants (10) 3x Brave the Elements 4x Swords to Plowshares 3x Disenchant (people hate on this and insist on oblivion ring but I prefer this due to it's lower mana cost and ability to kill an oblivion ring somebody used on something key to you, like a knight exemplar or kinsbaile cavaliers, just to rub salt in the wound)
Why Honor of the Pure and not Light from Within? Lower mana cost but Light gives a lot more +1/+1 than honor
what about;
20 lands
4 Path to exile
4 Oblivion ring
2 brave the elements
4 armored ascension ( i like them also but as soon as i use it it gets exiled )
2 Light from whithin
4 Knight exemplar
4 student of warfare
4 knight of the meadowgrain
4 kinsbaile cavalier
4 wilt leaf cavalier
4 Knight of the White Orchid
The lower mana cost is key to the speed of aggro decks. I should be playing stuff every turn. The second I hit the 4 mana needed I better be playing a kinsbaile or hitting max levels on a student to beast with. Having said that say the turn after I hit my forth I am playing it. At that point having +1/+1 to a student of warfare or knight of the holy nimbus or +2/+2 on the other things is less helpful than me being able to spend that 4 mana to make me attack with a minimum 4/4 double strike (it most of the time is a 6/6 by that point thanks to an honor and an exemplar)
Also, light from within is a great target for removal yet nobody really ever kills an honor of the pure so you tend to get more benefit from it. Potentially on the same turn you can play light from within I could play two honor of the pure. Same bonus yet if they remove yours you lose all benefit. Even if they remove mine I still have one.
I wonder if I should have 2 Kinsbaile or 2 White Orchid... once you have 1 or 2 kinsbaile on the field, it's fine... and 4 White Orchid is good for more mana
I'm new to Magic The Gathering and I started a knight Deck but I don't know if it is good or what else should I put in it. At the beggining it was a mono white knight deck but now it is a WG knight deck... I Really need your advice please

I put it into deck tags for you.
-4 Knight of New Alara
Concerted Effort is too much mana and just doesn't do enough here. I'd try out the above; your deck will move faster, and with Brave the Elements, no Treefolk deck should be able to beat you.
Sig and Avatar drawn by me.
I've tried something with my cards I have but that were not in my deck.
-4 Rancor
-1 Concerted Effort
-4 Wilt Leaf Liege
-4 Knight of the new alara
-2 Shield of the oversoul
and added
+3 Kinsbaile cavalier
+2 knight of the white orchid
+4 Sigiled paladin
+4 knight of the meadowgrain
+4 armored ascension
for a total of 60 cards. I like armored because if i take out the doors or light from within or even the wilt leaf liege ( which i find weak since it's not a green"white deck anymore) my cards will not be strong... i know it will be double strike but a 4/4 or 5/5 double strike is not THAT strong
what do you think about Stillmoon cavalier? I have Ajani Goldmane, Garruk Wildspeaker and 2 Sun titan also?

But to beat competitive tier decks you'll probably need a deck on a similar level (however, do note that it doesn't have to be an established deck archetype, even Rogue decks do Top8 tourneys, thus I recommended you to play what you prefer).

22x Plains
Creatures (22)
4x Student of Warfare
4x Knight of the Holy Nimbus
4x Knight of the Medowgrain
4x Knight Exemplar
2x Paladin en-Vec (already decided to replace this with Mirrodin Crusader from the new Besieged set)
4x Kinsbaile Cavaliers
3x Brave the Elements
4x Swords to Plowshares
3x Disenchant (people hate on this and insist on oblivion ring but I prefer this due to it's lower mana cost and ability to kill an oblivion ring somebody used on something key to you, like a knight exemplar or kinsbaile cavaliers, just to rub salt in the wound)
Enchantments (6)
4x Honor of the Pure
2x Armored Ascension (another card people hate on but it's just so much fun)

what about;
20 lands
4 Path to exile
4 Oblivion ring
2 brave the elements
4 armored ascension ( i like them also but as soon as i use it it gets exiled )
2 Light from whithin
4 Knight exemplar
4 student of warfare
4 knight of the meadowgrain
4 kinsbaile cavalier
4 wilt leaf cavalier
4 Knight of the White Orchid
Also, light from within is a great target for removal yet nobody really ever kills an honor of the pure so you tend to get more benefit from it. Potentially on the same turn you can play light from within I could play two honor of the pure. Same bonus yet if they remove yours you lose all benefit. Even if they remove mine I still have one.

I wonder if I should have 2 Kinsbaile or 2 White Orchid... once you have 1 or 2 kinsbaile on the field, it's fine... and 4 White Orchid is good for more mana
Crusade, Honor of the Pure and Shared Triumph all does the same thing for the same mana cost... I'd buy the cheapest for sure
EDIT: Never mind, Honor of the Pure is the best. I read too fast, didn't notice that Crusade and Shared Trumph could also pump your opponant's cards
For me, it will be a war between Honor of the Pure and Light From Within
I Wonder If I should replace Wilt Leaf Cavalier for Kabira Vindicator, which pumps a lot also
