... :/ meh, just as i suspected would happen- a deck idea that i tried to set up [ie: echo creatures are nothing more than place holders for bigger/better creatures]. instead, people only care for the possible double-trigger ETB's when the Portcullis leaves play.
in that regard, if the Portcullis leaves play- alot of critters would be moot: Nekrataal has no critter to 187, F'tongue ain't got nothin' to blast, MannyWar can't bounce anything else.
great thinking!!!
i'll see about adding some manland. 2 Stalking Stones; i could recommend some of the Legacy Manlands- but i know you people will vote'em off.
i could also suggest Crosis's Catacombs but people will scream "we haz better wedgeland! Grixis ftw!"

First, nekrataal and FTK and the like are meant to shoot an opposing critter and thus end up safe within the 2 creature limit. If they shoot and don't land safely in the limit, then they get rfg'd but either way, it was profitable. Man-o'-war does the same thing, gaining ground presence while denying it to the opponent.
We don't care about recurring CIP abilities, we care about ground dominance. if the CIP abilities can recur, all the better, but that isn't the goal.
Second, idol is great for this deck because:
it isn't a creature when it CIPs
it doesn't prevent us from dropping critters
we can activate it in response to their guys to hit the port limit
it is absolutely free to activate
is is efficiently costed
I think you should try to more rationally evaluate the list's direction and strengths than to get angry over the path not taken. The echo placeholder plan is fragile, this one is more resilient and versatile.
Just got to say, you've definitely earned distinction as an MTGS hero

1. We can activate it in response to their guys to hit the port limit
2. It is absolutely free to activate
3. It is efficiently priced.
Simply because I must, allow me to argue these points.
1. We can indeed activate to prevent an opponents creature from hitting the board, no problem here save for the 'free' cost. Still better cards to do this with.
2. It is far from free. If we're tapped out its free, otherwise its painfully over-priced or at best on-par with the superior chimeric choices.
3. More semantics, but 'efficient' to me has always been something which over-exceeds its effect to some degree for its cost. Meaning that Vampire Nighthawk is efficient, or Leatherback Baloth. Better effects, for lower costs. A 3/3 for three is to me merely on par, cmc=p/t. Which is not terrible, but far from efficient.
In regards to the "free" activation of the Chimeric Idol, I don't think it's as big a drawback as you think, especially because of the other cards in this deck. If you had a lot of instants, ya, that'd be annoying. But this deck has very few instants (and in fact I think the counterspell should probably go), meaning you don't care if you're tapped out on your opponents turn. Chimeric Mass is the only card I would see being better, simply because it's more versatile with the X casting cost, but I still prefer the free activation of Chimeric Idol.
i'll see about adding some manland. 2 Stalking Stones; i could recommend some of the Legacy Manlands- but i know you people will vote'em off.
I don't know why you think we'd vote off the man lands. I already alluded to the fact that man lands would be great in the same way that chimeric idol is. Faerie Conclave would be perfect. But stalking stones??? 6 mana activation cost??? Eww. I wouldn't vote against the legacy manlands but I'll definitely vote against stalking stones!
Ok so I didn't want to alter the focus of this deck from what GMAD decides but I just feel like people haven't played with Porcullis before. Not really control either but whatever, thats GMAD. We have WAY to many creatures though. If the opponent sneaks in a shroud creature (or two) before we can get creatures to make up that two we lose pretty much. Same if they fill it with tokens and run removal. We spend a ton of mana on a FTK only to have the only legal target being a 1/1 token. We spend 4 on a creature only to have them remove it for two and make another token to hit the cap.
In portcullis decks manlands and other cards that become creatures are solid gold. As such I vote to keep Chimeric Idol.
Vote to remove Stalking Stones. I'm all for manlands but 6 to activate it is to high.
Vote to remove remove Gilded Drake. Depending on what creatures they have under that two creature limit which generally is filled up with 1-2CC small creatures this often will be a dead card or you will be trading a 3/3 for a smaller creature.
Vote to remove Flametongue Kavu. Only red card we are currently running. I would rather not splash just for FTK.

Okay, Stalking Stones may be a hinderance compared to the other manlands. since the Fairy Conclave or Ghitu Encampment are the better choices of the three possible- a 2/1 Flier or a 2/1 First Striker compared to a 1/1 Regerator i'll leave it open for someone to decide which would be more suitable.

Ah well, i'm going to quit trying to defend the removal of the Idol. If Chef doesn't mind that its going away from his direction i'll stop trying to work it back into control. (Afraid something that can cut off instant speed shenanigans comes to the forefront when I think anti-control.)
Just a bit disappointed in seeing GMAD constantly derailed from the makers request.
Vote to:
-remove Stalking Stones, six mana is just too much to activate and their are better manlands out there.
-remove Flametongue Kavu, I see no reason to splash for red just for this guy especially with the budget restrictions which won't allow us too use original duals
-remove 2 Man-o-War, good card but don't need four of; I think two of him and two of Venser would be good. So that knocks out the one and leaves one vote to remove one more.
-remove 1 Gilded Drake, agree it might be conditional so two copies is a lot better
-remove Scalding Tarn, this deck should be blue / black and it tutors for red / blue
-remove Crumbling Necropolis, getting rid of red means this needs to go
-remove Chimeric Idol: If we tap all our lands to use this than it wastes all our man lands, I'd rather have man lands than this guy, also cuts off our usage of Mana Leak
-remove Phyrexian Totem, don't like the idea of having to sacrifice permanents, and man lands should be enough
-remove two copies of Clutch of the Undercity, we are in black and I'd way rather use the tutors that are available too us than transmute. Only voting to remove two because the tutors aren't in the deck yet.
For today am adding four copies of Creeping Tar Pit, awesome man land for this situation.
New day so I'm going to vote 2 copies of Damnation to sweep the board if they set up some form of defense we can't deal with by using our creature ETB abilities.
Also vote to remove Phyrexian Totem. Self annihilator is not good for a game where we wont have many things on the battlefield.

Alright, you guys got me, after all my words to the contrary yesterday, I do think Chimeric Idol should be cut, now with the addition of man lands, lol
I will add in the 4x Faerie Conclave. That, along with creeping tar pit and chimeric mass should probably be enough non-creature creatures, so I will vote out the phyrexian totem. The activation cost is a bit too high and the drawback can be very painful sometimes. I don't wanna vote out my own suggestion from yesterday, but the chimeric idol should probably go now.
I am thuroughly lost on how to play this deck or even how it's supposed to work. [maybe i should just stop attempting to contribute to anymore GMAD's... ] a flaw i see in the current deck set up- no way to get the Portcullis out early enough to initiate the lock, so once again- it's just been pushed back to an after thought...
and what's with people liking the Idol? it's a more a hassle, especially if we're running manlands. Chimeric Staff is equivocally the same thing, but more effecient. Tap all lands, even our manlands, for a pitiful 3/3? or tap out everything else to activate the manlands and the Staff- and the Negator Totem? [Vote to keep the Negator]
SELVAXRI! King of Misfortune & Master of Rocket Launchers "Do ya feel lucky? Because you'd better start runnin' while you still can." 375 Misfortune {+3 signed AP's} & 104 Rocket Launcher (41 AQ/ 63 Rev) Edgar Rice Burroughs, forgotten legend of the word.
Okay, have people again forgot that we haven't hit 75 cards yet and thus the addition phase isn't over. No one in like the last day since me and ChefStiX made additions has added anything, besides Bustin addin the Faerie Conclave. Lets start making some additions to this deck so we can get to 75 cards eventually. Right now we are only at 62 cards so we still have quite a bit of room left to add some good stuff to finish this deck off with.
Also, no one at all basically any longer besides just a few of us are explaining our votes. Your supposed to explain your votes and at least some sort of reason. Because of this I'm gonna go to the rules thread and introduce the idea that if you don't explain your votes they don't count.
Also, on the deck how does anyone at all like Idol, this is the main reason I'm upset at people not explaining there votes they are voting to keep Idol when it makes us tap all of our lands, thus tapping all our man lands and making them essentially worthless, oh and also it makes Mana Leak completely worthless as well, and will make any instant spot removal that we add in the future (hopefully) completely worthelss as well. Hell even Bustin who added the card has gone against it and voted against it.
I've already voted against Idol and Totem so I can't vote against them again but I'd like everyone to take a look at the newly added Chimeric Mass it is clearly, blatantly better than both Totem and Mass. Because of this I am voting to make the Chimeric Mass a four of as I think we should kick Idol and Totem to the curb and keep just the Mass.
I'm also going to vote to:
-Up Damnation to four, this could be a critical card we really really want to have in our hand right away when Porticullis gets blasted
-Keep Forbidden Orchard it can give our opponent a 1/1 or two 1/1's and thus lock the board with Porticullus and lets us than blast away with our man lands.
a flaw i see in the current deck set up- no way to get the Portcullis out early enough to initiate the lock,
this
If we were in white I would love to add Opal Acrolith but it seems people are pretty determined to keep us UB.
For now I am suggesting 3 Barter in Blood because it gets around things Damnation can't like indestructible. Since I feel like this is a better choice I am voting down Damnation. And of course it erases whatever the opponent has with Portcullis out.
IMO Chimeric Idol was significantly weaker than Chimeric Mass especially now that we are including manlands.
Now that the Idol is out it does make sense to have more of the Mass.
I also like to imagine that he has a rotating torso (like a metallic graft that fuses his upper and lower body together), so he can spin all around, leveling everything within 20ft of him to rubble.

Looking for Green friendly EDH players/groups in the Toronto area. PM me if this is you.
I will add in the 4x Faerie Conclave. That, along with creeping tar pit and chimeric mass should probably be enough non-creature creatures, so I will vote out the phyrexian totem. The activation cost is a bit too high and the drawback can be very painful sometimes. I don't wanna vote out my own suggestion from yesterday, but the chimeric idol should probably go now.

since we're down to two colors, i vote we boot Forbidden Orchard... we can use the room for something better- a lone Underground Sea, a couple of Underground River or a playset of Salt Marsh or likewise lands.
and what's with people liking the Idol? it's a more a hassle, especially if we're running manlands. Chimeric Staff is equivocally the same thing, but more effecient. Tap all lands, even our manlands, for a pitiful 3/3? or tap out everything else to activate the manlands and the Staff- and the Negator Totem? [Vote to keep the Negator]
