2 Browbeat- it's a card that can be Cascaded by the B.Elf, and it could be something the opponent wouldn't want to get Passage'd.
[waits for someone to say "no, not in this deck" and begins to vote it out. :-/]
Was thinking Breaking Point but who'd want to Cascade into an untimely mass-destruction spell?
SELVAXRI! King of Misfortune & Master of Rocket Launchers "Do ya feel lucky? Because you'd better start runnin' while you still can." 375 Misfortune {+3 signed AP's} & 104 Rocket Launcher (41 AQ/ 63 Rev) Edgar Rice Burroughs, forgotten legend of the word.
Which is great if your entire collection is with you all the time. That's not really feasible though, so most people will keep any cards they want to wish for with them. An unlimited sized wishboard is infeasible in the confines of GMAD, and 15 is a reasonably high number and is easy to translate into other formats. Hence, 15 card wishboard.
Staying alive seems important to me and the best wayt to do that without blowing up everything with red destruction spells, or spending large amounts of mana to deal with one threat in green, that blue can solve some problems with one of two cards....Either Wash-out (mulitplayer games) or evacuation....the plus side is that evacuation lets you reuse the into play/casting effects of bloodbraid and e-witness while still keepin you alive for a bit longer....i feel that is the could make the cut so i say 4 Evacuation
I also am concerned that your opponent might give you explore instead of something useful and i would like it to be something that does more than cycles...I vote removing 2 explore
I say we go high CMC- with 3 as our base line- yes it is slow, but we have tutors and we can just pack in the crazy cards-
Like Washout- It isn't 100% dead even against colorless as we would like to recast any creature other than SSS.
Voting Against:
Explore- we don't want to be given this. It is bad compared to every other spell.
Browbeat- we are slow damage- this is just 3 mana for 5 damage in a control deck.
Voting for:
Fact or Fiction- it is really strong. I know our CMC 4 is really full, but that is most of our lower limit for CMC. Maybe as a 1-3 of, but I would REALLY love to be able to put at least on in a Gifts Ungiven pile
If we are going to keep Gifts Ungiven we need a few more 1 ofs to make sure we can always grab 4 relevant cards.
Stuff like Draining Whelk and Primal Command that our opponents will always NOT want us to have and are NEVER a bad card to be forced into our hand. Also a few more pieces of mass removal like Nervialls Disk would be great.
Remove 2 Evactuation: Getting multiples of this isn't going to help out a ton. If they give us one, they can give us another without worry. Also fighting with Wash Out for spots.
Vote for the lands: There's nothing wrong with these lands. Not every deck needs to resort to duals to function correctly, and the original duals in general are cards that I don't think belong in a casual deck now that they're closing in on an average price of $100.
Vote against Tropical isalnd: like I said, I don't think that these have a place in a casual deck. There are plenty of options that are perfectly acceptable, and not using the best available lands makes the decks easier to play -- It's way easier to improve a deck than it is to budgetize one. Also, weren't these added too soon after sky swallowers?
I'll add 3 Treachery: Remove their wincon and make it ours, and we can still cast a passage afterwards. Also a card that they won't want to see us getting.
Vote Against- Jace, the Mindsculptor. why? why you ask?! Simple why, whenever blue is a focal point in the deck, this clown is "obviously the best choice"? give me a valid reason, other than "He's the best damn Planeswalker ever"... you darned people don't EVER think 'outside the box'
and here's another card recommendation that's gonna get voted out-
1 Thawing Glaciers- let's get a recurring Terramorphic Expanse on to the field on our opponent's expense- they may think it's enough to slow us down.
As being the one who suggested evacuation I firmly get behind the idea for bumping it down since we run wash out...I also think that we Can do better than city of brass and tropical isle with a combination of: Cascade Bluffs, Fire-Lit Thicket, and Flooded Grove
Also if you were wanting a few one of's how about having some combo's in the deck that can help us with the game....nothing completely over powered but still something less seen enough to be interesting.....the only real thing that comes to mind is a niv-mizzit and Curiosity/Keen Sense
Jace the mind scultpor, while quite fancy, could easily be something better (relative term to some people) and our 4 cmc slot is already pretty full, the only important ability i see him having is brain storm....so why not just run that instead? or how about Ancestral Vision? The down side i see with visions is that they give it to you and you have to suspend it....best i can see happening is suspend it turn 1 or cascade into it with bloodbraid elf.
Total vote:
Move Evacuation to 2
Remove tropical Isle
Remove Browbeat
Remove Mindsculptor
Add 1 Keen Sense (i love ignoring color pie with timespiral block)
Add 1 Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind
Vote to remove 1 FOF and 1 Gifts: A lot of spells in this deck want blue mana; all the creatures want green and or red mana. Voting these down to cut a bit of the blue streak from the deck. Plus, these cards are kind of overlapping with passage. Gifts is probably just better than passage most of the time. Fact overlaps with the passage also, but it is more random. I think that fof is more fun than gifts, so I only want to cut one.
EDIT: Add 2 Mana Reflection: All these high mana costs are going to require some mana. I'm Kind of stuck between adding this and Explosive Vegitation, vegitation is cheaper and is cast earlier, but reflection has the "I REALLY DON'T WANT MY OPPONENT TO HAVE THAT" feeling that it lacks. Reflection is also fairly consistantly good to get, unlike vegetation which is weak later. I also considered Plow Under and I think that might be an okay choice as well.
Vote to:
-remove Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind, this deck doesn't have enough draw in it too take advantage of him.
-remove Evacuation: Black gives us access to Damnation
-remove Wash Out: Black gives us access to Damnation
-remove Treachery: Would much rather have Bribery here
-remove Mana Reflection: Comes out much too late by the time we have the mana to play it we will have the mana to play any spell we need to
-remove Thawing Glaciers: we likely won't have many basic lands in this deck
-remove one Fact or Fiction: Don't need four of these
-remove two Gift's Ungiven: Two of these will be enough
I really think we should open this up to four colors so we can have real sweepers and actually have spot removal so I think we should add black. Black also gives us access to Volrath's Stronghold. Adding four copies of Maelstrom Pulse for good versatile spot removal that can take care of anything our opponent's throw at us.
With Black in the deck, I'm gonna go ahead and add in a few Shriekmaw. It's awesome with our Regrowth Girl and it should always be relevant to get off of a Passage.
I'll also make some votes:
Out - Mana Reflection - It's a sweet card, but it really does cost too much.
Out - Evacuation - We can do better than this since we have Black now. Also, Wash Out is splashable.
Vote against Ponder: We don't want cards that cost less than three, they interfere with bloodbraid's consistency.
Vote against Malestrom Pulse: The colors of this deck were clearly established. I don't see why you would add another color at this point, and adding another color to a 3 color deck is going to make it totally dependent on the $70+ dual lands. Beast Within would have been a way better addition.
Vote against Shriekmaw: Killing the black splash. I really don't think it's necessary to add another color to this deck.
I thought about Beast Within but giving them a 3/3 in this deck would just cause us as many problems as it is as big as any of our creatures besides our lone Simic Sky Swallower, which by the way it is dumb to only have one copy of because they will never ever give it to us with all those other creatures in the deck so we are dependent on drawing it. Also with only one in the deck one Wrath of God completely screws us until we can get an Eternal Witness to get it back with.
Also I don't see the problem at all in using dual lands, the OP didn't put a budget restriction on this GMaD so they are open to us and it's not like we haven't used them before many, many times. I can see not using them in a two color deck, but in a three color deck they are somewhat needed and in a four color deck are definitely needed, unless someone wants to add four copies of Harrow which than we could get away without running them.
I'm going to vote to:
-Remove Ponder: It's a horrible cascade target and the card they will give us every single time in Guided Passage.
-Keep Shriekmaw: I think black should stay and its a good piece of removal and a good beater.
-Up Simic Sky Swallower to two copies, two copies should suffice.
Adding two copies of Damnation to give us good sweepers.
I will continue to vote out Jace, Mid Sculptor for the sheer reason no one's given a good reason as to WHY he would remain in the deck. besides, our opponent will never Passage use a Jace- heck, he'd be Lobotomy bait...
I will also vote out Damnation- who decided to splash black and for what reason?!? for Shriekmaw?!?
Remove Shreikmaw- why the frek was this allowed?if we try to splash in what's supposed to be a :symu::symr::symg: deck, how are we gonna mana-fix that? gonna add Crumbling Necropolis and Savagelands? feh...
in regards to "not running many basic lands" in this deck, WHEN DO WE EVER RUN MORE THAT A HANDFUL OF BASIC LAND IN THESE GMaD'S?!? Rarely ever, you people are becoming to dependant on running non-basic land. God... i hate being a Legacy rogue-decker in thise narrow-minded deckbuilding environ.
[dons grampa pants]Back in my day, we had painlands and if we were lucky- duels! heck, we were lucky to run the ally-pain lands-- we had to suffer with Tempest Enemy-Pains and Mirage fetchlands...
for ☺☺☺☺s and giggles, just to be an ass- 4 Darksteel Relic! Why? for the same reason Jace is in the deck- because I can! it's obvious Passage bait- "here. have this utter useless artifact."
Vote against Damnation: They'll never give us damnation if we need to find a damnation, and they'll be able to figure out when we have one REALLY easily. Plus, the double black commitment on this card is going to be next to impossible. Remember, you CAN'T add nonbasic land after we get to 75 cards (1.1.0). This black addition should never have happened, as there was not a really good reason to do so, when there was an acceptable replacement effect in-color.
Voting against:
Shriekmaw: No black. NO BLACK!
Maelstrom Pulse: No black. NO BLACK!
Damnation: No black. NO BLACK!
(We have a solid 3 color deck, there is no real reason to go 4 colors esp. with cards that have double of that color)
Darksteel Relic: I hate you all. Really. This has the best anti- synergy ever.
Ponder: This is a horrible card in our deck- we don't want to be given a non- CA card that does a whole lot of nothing.
Thawing Glaciers: Probably not going to have enough basics.
my recommending Darksteel Relic was a facetious example of frivoulous a majority of cards were- namely the black stuff and Jace.
@Aereas- Jace will never be Passage'd to us- unless we already have a Jace on the field. Wasn't the point of this deck to get Passage'd threats into our hand at our opponent's bequest? Yes. We have many things, some that will get Passage'd to us when we couldn't really use them- others that they would rather give us to waste a spell.
Jace does alot of really nifty things, but only one turn at a time- and the "wincon" that our opponent can get ready to deal with.
I'm done here...
/bids farewell to future GMaD's...

Vote to:
-remove Darksteel Relic: No business being there.
-remove Shriekmaw: I still think the deck is better with black but no one else does so I'm not gonna fight with the crowd
-keep Jace, the Mind Sculptor: He provides a much needed alt win condition
-remove Maelstrom Pulse: Same reasoning as Shriekmaw
-keep Wash Out: With Damnation gone were gonna need it
Adding two copies of Bribery as I think its better than Treachery but also goes good alongside it, and it goes with our theme of making it very hard for our opponent to choose what to give us as it's a card most opponents wouldn't want to give us. It also has a CMC of over 3 so we will still cascade into either the Guided Passage or Eternal Witness.
I see adding Black didn't go over all too well, but I can understand. This is gonna be a wonky 3 color deck as it is, no need for it to go overboard.
Maybe I can go with another Evoke creature then? Mulldrifter dodges being Cascaded into by BBE, but we can still cast it off 3 mana and not miss out on our curve. Plus, if they decide to give us one off of a Passage, well that's two more cards, plus possibly a creature for us. Any opposing deck can only handle so much raw card advantage from us.
We need some spot removal or something to stop their creatures and Beast Within would be bad in this deck as the deck is so incredibly weak it will have problems dealing with a 3/3. Another option would be Lignify but that would be a creature than that could block nearly all of ours so isn't a good choice either. So for spot removal I'm gonna add four copies of Utopia Vow as it locks their creatures from attacking or blocking.
Aren't we running Red though? Granted, damage can't handle everything, but there's quite a bit it does take care of.
Sweepers I can understand, since those could possibly diminish the effects of BBE (I'm starting to think this is more of a BBE than a Guided Passage deck now...) but we could always use Lightning Bolt or even something with more scale like Urza's Rage.
Just throwin' some ideas out there.

-Up Simic Sky Swallower to two copies, two copies should suffice.
Adding two copies of Damnation to give us good sweepers.

Sweepers I can understand, since those could possibly diminish the effects of BBE (I'm starting to think this is more of a BBE than a Guided Passage deck now...) but we could always use Lightning Bolt or even something with more scale like Urza's Rage.
Just throwin' some ideas out there.
