Vote to remove Ulamog, Emarkul (buh-bye), and Phage for the simple fact that whenever a "free cast" card is the central focus of the deck, everyone things we need to free cast things we'd never hardcast. let's be a more creative than that please...
Let's see about board control, adding 2 Plague Wind- it'd be an awesome miracle to free cast this when our opponent has the field advantage.

Agreed. What happens if we don't have Wild Evocation on the board?
I changed my mind about Ulamog. I'm voting him out. We'll never cast him without Wild Evocation. If we don't have it....
i've been play testing this a bit and found that once our hand is empty, WE is useless. how about decree of pain. works great with a kokusho out. plus it's cycle ability is pretty darn good
hypnox gets rid of their hand AND gives us a flying 8/8 beater

when i see cards like Wild Evocation and players try to exploit the free casting, it takes time to build up... we shouldn't rely on the WE to get things out.
At best, when it works, it's a once-a-turn trick.
if we're going red/black- we could go heavy discard, so when we do get the WE out, they'll be topdecking... and we could run Pyromancy, etc to narrow down what we want to freecast- like big burn spells.

Adding 1 Academy Rector tutors our WE into play
Voting against Show and Tell, it steals WE's thunder
Voting against Plague wind, its slow..
Voting against Paradox haze, we dont need four
academy rector is turn 4, and that's relying on a turn 1, 2, 3 coalition relic. then we have to sac it to something, or block with it. doesn't look like a good add to me. i'm voting against it.
Sorin's Vengeance, Hypnox, and Decree of Pain are all cards i'd love to see in this deck. but
since i really like the idea of filling my hand with more cards to play with, and watching all creatures, including a potential kokusho go to the grave, i'm adding 2 decree of pain
voting against paradox haze because we really don't seem to be able to keep our hand full enough to make use of both upkeeps
voting against zombie infestation because we want cards in our hands, and id' rather not waste a trigger on a 2 drop. i'd much rather see Debtors' knell in it's place to get back the creatures we kill. i realize that this card allows us to empty our hand of cards we don't want to freecast, but i think we can work around it without this. (though debtor's knell AND zombie infestation together is pretty cool, if we had more creatures, but we don't.)
voting out plague wind because i think decree is a better option.
i'd also vote against coalition because it looks better that we go BR and not splash with the hopes of getting a coalition relic. we'd be better suited with a cheaper artifact mana accel to get us to WE faster.
we don't want a lot of 3 cmc - 5 cmc spells clogging our hand up once the WE hits the field, or we're wasting it's trigger. the lower the better to get them on the field before the WE hits.
Adding one Demonic Tutor for, y'know, tutoring. Wild Evocation supports toolbox play.
Voting to remove two copies of Kokusho, the Evening Star. It's an excellent creature, but we don't need a full playset.
Voting to remove Academy Rector entirely; it's too shaky a play to be worth splashing white.
Voting to remove Zombie Infestation entirely; ditching cards to control Wild Evocation is a great idea, but we need something that lets us ditch just one card at a time for more fine control. Maybe Flame Jab or Seismic Assault?
Voting to remove Seething Song entirely; it doesn't get Wild Evocation into play significantly faster than a mana rock, and lacks long-term utility.
Voting to remove Show and Tell entirely; if we want another Wild Evocation, we can bump it up from three copies to four.
I'm not keen on Night's Whisper -- there have to be better draw options -- but I'm not going to vote to cut it just yet.
Voting to remove Plague Wind entirely; if the Eldrazi are too expensive to hardcast, so is this, and Decree of Pain's flexibility and card advantage is pretty tempting. Gone.
Voting to remove Desperate Ravings entirely; Wild Evocation is random enough without the risk of pitching our good cards straight into the graveyard.
Voting to remove Coalition Relic entirely; we're heading toward a two-color deck, and we have cheaper options for mana generation. (I recommend Mind Stone for the card draw. Sac the Stone during the opponent's end phase to get a card in your hand for Evocation.)
How closely are we sticking to the Legacy banned list (as mentioned in the original post)? If we're sticking to it then Demonic Tutor shouldn't be in the deck, but it does seem a great fit with the theme of the deck.
Sorry about that! I got it mixed up in my head with the Vintage restricted list. Please remove the Tutor from the deck list.
This deck has kind of lost it's focus... we don't have any cards that we aim to free cast via WE, except Decree of Pain... i only voted against the Eldrazi and Phage because those are cards everyone wants to free cast.
i'm not against trying to free cast big critters or spells, just the cards that are added to every deck that tries to freecast...
let's see about 1 Insurrection. In our darkest hour, and we're on death's door practially hoping to miracle something- this would be a card to answer our prayers. if we're playing against a heavy creature deck...
also, final vote to axe Paradox Haze. we could try to run Grixis colors, but let's not.
Adding two Crystal Vein for mana acceleration; I would have added more copies if it produced colored mana. [/quote]

And now with coalition relic gone we need more mana rocks. So I'm adding 4 mind stone which is boring as... but very much necessary if we hope to resolve wild evocation in a timely manner.
Also, I feel we really want 4 copies of the namesake card because we don't yet have a reliable way to draw into it nor tutor for it. Voting to increase.
I don't like Desperate ravings because we're now trying to firmly plant ourselves out of blue, so we can't flash it back (which makes it a pretty bad card imo). Holding vote, though.
Adding three Shriekmaw. We need more removal to deal with aggro, and Shriekmaw's well positioned for this purpose -- we can evoke it for 2 as a Terror, or Evoke it for free to get the Terror on a 3/2 Fear-ish stick.
Voting to remove all copies of Night's Whisper. It's a cheap, weak card draw effect for fast aggro decks, making it a poor fit with this slow midrange-y deck. (The life loss is pretty bad here, too; we're going to take a licking from our opponent while we're trying to get the Evocation online.)
Voting to remove one Terminate. It's a great card, but we may not need quite as many if we've got Shriekmaw as well. (Or I may be wrong and we need seven or more 2-mana removal spells. Thoughts?)
Unless we're expecting to run this as a multiplayer deck, I'm iffy about Insurrection. The deck's removal and discard components should thin out the opponent's creatures enough that Insurrection may not net us much. Maybe we should be running beefy board control elements like Ryusei, the Evening Star, in order to further clamp down on early aggro while we get Wild Evocation online.
Also, I feel we really want 4 copies of the namesake card because we don't yet have a reliable way to draw into it nor tutor for it. Voting to increase.
You forgot to update the numbers for this, got it covered, and also voting to bring it to four.
Voting to kill Ravings, we're out of blue
Voting to kill Zombie Infestation, we don't have a ton of draw, I don't see us gaining much with this
Voting to kill Seething Song, we don't want to be hitting this at our upkeep.
Voting -2 Kokusho, 4 seems like a bit much
Voting against Nights Whisper, because of what I'm adding
Adding 3x Phrexian Arena, that way we never have to worry about having an empty hand and whiffing our Evocation trigger, and if we have a hand that works well with Evocation, we can just reveal first.
I'm thinking 2x Cunning Lethemancer would be a good add as well, to keep opponents from getting any evocation love, and we can always stack the triggers to our benefit
I'm thinking 2x Cunning Lethemancer would be a good add as well, to keep opponents from getting any evocation love, and we can always stack the triggers to our benefit
Not a bad idea...I just wonder if that would work too much to our opponents' advantage as well.
If we want additional removal -- which may not be necessary, what with the Shriekmaws and Terminates -- I suspect we'd actually be better off with Diabolic Edict. The Edict's more forgiving mana cost increases our chances of having the right mana to play it early, which should outweigh the point of life loss dealt by the Verdict.
However, what we need more of in terms of removal is cheap sweepers, like Pyroclasm, to deal with token decks and the like.
Adding one Liliana Vess. She fits Wild Evocation like a glove: she can tutor up Wild Evocation or spells to Evoke, or she can force the opponent to discard and thus have no cards in hand to Evoke.
this deck is finally coming together. i'd almost just start cutting now and finish it. i'd remove 1 rune-scarred and add a hypnox and 2 ryuseii (minus two kokusho)
in fact, i'm going to make those changes.
vote: remove 1 demon
vote: remove all night's whisper, good spell, but may hurt us too much to be of use. besides arenas should be hurting us just enough anyways.
add: 2 Ryusei, the falling star for a big board wipe
suggesting: vote to remove 2 kokusho and add a Hypnox
i'd vote against kokusho, but i added it. add phyrexian tower to kill our star dragons
Also, we're almost at the cutting phase.
I get that the whole Eldrazi thing is boring, so I agree to cut Emrakul; I'll leave Ulamog alone for the time being.
We don't need two Phages, so I vote to cut that down by one.
We also don't need 4 Paradox Haze, so let's remove one of those.
I ask that we cut before adding. There are a few suspect 4-ofs in here....

EDIT: Unfortunately, Pyroclasm kills Shriekmaw. Hmm...
Adding one Liliana Vess. She fits Wild Evocation like a glove: she can tutor up Wild Evocation or spells to Evoke, or she can force the opponent to discard and thus have no cards in hand to Evoke.

in fact, i'm going to make those changes.
vote: remove 1 demon
vote: remove all night's whisper, good spell, but may hurt us too much to be of use. besides arenas should be hurting us just enough anyways.
add: 2 Ryusei, the falling star for a big board wipe
suggesting: vote to remove 2 kokusho and add a Hypnox
i'd vote against kokusho, but i added it. add phyrexian tower to kill our star dragons
