Rebuilding more and more of my older decks, currently sitting at my old U/G Madness Threshold deck, which used to be a lot of fun. Would love to hear some modern ideas about it, since I'm still not very fond yet of all the stuff post Onslaught cycle.
Noose Constrictor is an interesting option, though I feel it's redundant to Wild Mongrel which I feel is a tad superior, giving the option to gain immunity to color-specific spells.
Honored Hydra on the other hand is a definite upgrade over Roar, mean thingy! But... did Wizards run out of ideas that they renamed Flashback and put in on creatures? :-D
This is one of the decks we played a lot when our playgroup was just starting out on magic. How about adding one Quiet Speculation, so you could fetch Roar of the Wurm? One of the things I did so many years ago is .. Quiet spec... fetch 2 Roar of the Wurm and 1 Moment's Peace or 2 Roar of the Wurm +1 Ray of Revelation if I'm playing against a deck with enchantments.
You're welcome. If you're facing a lot of artifact decks.. Ancient Grudge is also a good sideboard card for this kind of deck. Can be fetched by quiet spec or dumped into the yard by careful study.
I also playtested Frantic Search in the Threshold deck in meantime. What an insane card, wow, I totally underrated getting the Mana back after casting! Makes the deck Vintage, but who cares, ditched the Attunement for it!
I wonder if I also should ditch the Elephant Guide for a Quiet Speculation and Moment's Peace...
Another thing I just thought about might be replacing 2x Deep Analysis, 1x Quiet Speculation and 1x Moment's Peace with 4x Frantic Search in the Madness deck - would reduce the flashback cards to just 2x Roar of the Wurm, but boy, Frantic Search is just awesome! And the untapping resolves before the madness trigger, so I could draw with it, discard, and then play stuff with the untapped lands for their madness cost...
I do recommend upping the Quiet Speculation to at least 2 copies. To increase the chances of seeing one each game. Just casting one puts 4 cards into the yard if you're into the thresh strategy. We used to call these decks "Quiet Roar". My deck back then also had one Genesis for recurring werebears that died. Elephant Guide is card disadvantage.. never used them in my UG decks years ago. if your opponent has a lot of removal. Well, but if you're just playing for fun casually.. I guess it's fine.
As for Threshold, Quiet Speculation is indeed way better then I expected - I usually had Threshold by turns 2-3 when having it in my starting hand!
To spice things up, I also thought about splashing White into the Threshold mix (both the current decks feel a tad to similar, despite essentially playing way different) and to finally play that Mystic Enforcer, that I love so much. This way I would also ditch the Control parts of the deck - already have way too many controlly decks.
Here's a first draft:

Noose Constrictor is a great add. Honored Hydra is an upgrade over Roar, as the token has trample.

EDH - Rafiq of the Many
EDH - Roon of the Hidden Realm

I did some dry testings of both decks with the changes yesterday... Since Madness is a super fast deck, Quiet Speculation and Moment's Peace felt unnecessary and I went back to another Roar of the Wurm and Deep Analysis for them.
As for Threshold, Quiet Speculation is indeed way better then I expected - I usually had Threshold by turns 2-3 when having it in my starting hand!

Here's a first draft:
4 Nimble Mongoose
4 Werebear

3 Mystic Enforcer
1 Glory
1 Genesis

2 Treva's Charm
