I’m working on building a slower vampire deck leaning towards midrange because I’m taking apart my Edgar deck for the time being so some of my copy’s of good vampires are free. And I’m not a huge fan of how my Aggro builds have been preforming not really fast enough to get under friends and my dads dinosaur decks. And my play style leans more towards a disruption heavy creature deck anyways.
Im wanting to mess with the madness still even though the aggressive version didn’t work out. Mainly using voldaren pariah. And fun midrange vamps like my 2 copies of bloodline keeper. I also have 2 vampire Nocturnus cause I bought a split a while back but I also want to run smuggler’s copter and maybe falkenrath gorger. As a card engine. But they make Nocturnus less good. Though I am going to be heavy on black for the vampire nighthawk style vampires and gatekeeper of Malakir. And the pariah.
What do you think is the Nocturnus worth going all black/multicolored?.
I'm not a huge fan of nocturnus. He makes you want to invest in top of library manipulation, and many of those cards are either banned in legacy, or not at a quality that an aggro deck like vampires would want to play. The 4cmc forces a higher land count that vampires quite frankly don't need, and he specifically doesn't synergize with lands. Admittedly his effect is extremely powerful, but I'd rather play 4x Captivating Vampire possibly with Mirri, the Cursed in the 4cmc slot. The 1 less black symbol on Mirri allows a splash or investment in wastelands/ mutavaults.
The best approach to library manipulation for Vampire Nocturnus is probably instant card draw, like with Underworld Connections. If you aim for a longer game, you want some additional card draw anyway.
