Remember, slivers like cheap fillers with big hitters, you want to keep the expensive dudes to a low amount, slivers receive a lot of hate. The deck really depends on the direction you want to go.
Nope, I'm only playing three colors. Could you give me some pointers on a mana base? Even some strategies that you used for your two-color decks in your sig.
No Sliver Overlord, or Sliver Queen, or Sliver Legion, or Shifting Sliver? They're the main part of most Sliver decks!
Legacy "competitive" decks don't run of those sadly. They're way to costly mana-wise complicated by the fact that the Queen/Legion/Overlord require a rainbow to cast and can easily be countered/removed/stopped.
Hi all, I'm struggling with a proper mana base for my CounterSliver deck. I don't have enough money to buy the legacy mana base, not even close. I am willing to learn how to do the math for future decks, but I have been building mostly mono-colored decks because I don't know how to balance the colors. Here is what I have right now:
Main problem is I'm getting run over by fast decks. Thinking about investing in Aether Vial/Worship and subbing in Plated Sliver for the Mana Leaks.
If you're on a budget I'd recommend only running two colours.
The only thing that green offers is Muscle Sliver (and some builds use Fungus Sliver or somesuch as a "finisher" but that's not exactly mainstream or tested). The Legacy manabase works so well because you can essentially load it up with Vials, fetches and use 2-3x Tropical Island to take care of the very minimal amount of green that you need. In the same sense as Tarmogoyf, Muscle Sliver isn't actually a green card, it's a blue card due to the ease of casting it with minimal green sources using a proper mana base. Since you can't pull off this kind of shenanigans I'd actually recommend against green.
So, with your current deck I would go:
-4x Mana Leak
+4x Aether Vial
Do this one asap. All of your slivers with the exception of Plated Sliver have a CMC of 2. Vials let you bypass colour requirements, skip countermagic and pull off combat tricks. They also help you substantially in the face of land destruction/disruption. Leak, like you said, is too slow. It's clogging up your 2CMC slot. Vial is the one-drop you should be aiming for in almost all of your games.
-4x Muscle Sliver
+4x Plated Sliver
Obviously you WANT Muscle Sliver in here, but if you're on a really tight budget and can't afford the mana base then the deck won't "function" as countersliver proper. Plated Sliver keeps your curve where you want it (2 or under) and at least offers you some benefits.
Now, your mana base is a little messy. You want to avoid CipT lands the best you can in this deck. The more tempo you can generate, the more counters you can toss around, the better for you.
You want 4x Mutavaultor 4x Wasteland (or a combination of the two) but both cards are VERY expensive. As such, I'm excluding them, but if you have them add them in.
Furthermore, in order for Brainstorm to be super-effective you need shuffle effects (aka Fetchlands). I think the Legacy version runs 4-6x fetchlands. If you're running 2 colours you can get away with only 4, but since you're U/W you'll need 4x Flooded Strand which, well, is a U Onsluaght fetchland, so it runs for $10-13 each. So I'll presume that fetch-lands are a no in this deck.
There's a website somewhere that explains how to breakdown your mana base depending on your curve/costs. It's not perfect, and last I checked it didn't take into account the requirments for cards like Daze. Since finishing the decks I do play and getting the duals for them I haven't looked back though, so I don't have it on hand. In the end, just eyeballing though it without the "official" math, here's what I'd run:
12x Island
6x Plains
If you have access to Hallowed Fountain or Flooded Strand you should include them. The problem with the mana base is complicated further because Daze requires an Island to be particularly effective. Counterspell requires double-U to become effective.
Lastly, I'd pass on running Worship. It's easier than ever to get around now-a-days. Quasali Pridemage and Krosan Grip are testaments to that statement.
Countersliver runs a similar base to Merfolk and, as such, aggro decks like Zoo are typically able to run you over fairly quickly between bigger creatures (Tarmogoyf, Knight of the Reliquary) and a ton of removal (the only benefit to you being Crystalline Sliver). I think that improving your tempo (ie. dropping green, having NO CipT lands, being able to cast Daze almost all of the time) will help you out a huge amount.
You might also consider sideboarding in some hate cards if you're still having trouble against certain decks. Examples include Submerge, Pithing Needle, Runed Halo, etc.
Thank you Matchbox20, that was very helpful and exactly what I was looking for! I will do my best to change the deck and send the Muscle slivers to my Pauper aggro deck as well as incorporate the money changes with time.
Hello,
I am new to this forum and just made this naya sliver deck. I play only casual with a few friends and this is meant to be a quicker deck than my main other deck that is big green fattys/mana ramp/lifegain as it has no creatures that are cheaper than 6 so it takes usually about 5 turns to get going good and my friends goblin deck usually has me hurt enough I cant recover unless I have been gaining crazy life.
Also I like changlings a lot but only know a few so are there any changlings with high power and toughness that would be good in this deck? Or are they all small creatures?
ANY AND ALL INPUT GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thanks, Neil
One changeling in particular that I really like is Chameleon Colossus. I guess high power and toughness is open to one's own interpretation, but his protection is handy and his pump ability is ridiculous. I feel like he would work hand in hand quite well with slivers. Have fun with the deck!

Great suggestion as this works great with bonesplitter sliver, muscle sliver, and sinew sliver. Will definitely look into adding this card if I can get ahold of some.
I agree, ancient ziggurat is a must. I would cut beastmaster's ascension for them. 18 lands is not enought in a deck with 6cc cards.
I dont really see ziggurat taking the place of beastmaster, definitly will add it though. And yes 18 is few but with 4 gemhide and the ability to slivercycle for gemhide through homing sliver greatly alleviates the problem. I think I will cut 2 slivers eventually for 2 land though. The there are 30+ cards though with one two or three cmc cards so I should be able to hold out for a bit before droping fury sliver and just hope to draw gemhide sliver
For ~ $30, you might find it worth it to pick up the premium deck; gets you some very nice slivers (including Sliver Overlord and Amoeboid Changeling for creature stealing), a Coat of Arms for some punch, and some of the lands you'll want. And they're all shiny. See here for the full list.
1- increase the lands and get better fix
2- increase the better slivers, drop the worst ones
3- include some surprises (you are right about some lightning bolts or/and naya charm)
1: you are right about the lands, 20 lands is the lower amount you run in most of the decks, with 3 color i really think you should use 22 (minimun).
dunno what is your budget, but with 4 jungle shine and 4 ancient ziggurat (budget landbase) you can help your deck alot, some vesuvas and/or reflecting pools could help too
2: you dont need 4 brood, too much mana, you can go more fast with 4 muscle and 4 sinew, also drop some defensives ones and increase the ofensive, some samples: drop lymph and watcher, there are better slivers in the colors like cautery sliver, spined sliver, if you can expend more $$ you must add magma sliver and harmonic sliver, 2 virulent sliver are good for alternate wincon, also if you want defensive slivers, play ward sliver.
I will start off by stating that my deck probably wouldn't win me any tournaments. However, I am having an incredibly difficult time trying to slim it down. There are so many cards that I can see being very helpful, yet situational. So I'm asking for advice on what are the best cards for a sliver deck.
I also wonder if I should add a few Ashnod's Alters or Mana Echoes to combo Sliver Queen, Heartstone, and Heart Sliver
I have quite a few more slivers and other cards I'd love to add, but, I'm already pretty full as you can see. And I'm sure you're thinking there should be less x1's and x2's and more x3's and x4's. I'm positive that it might not be completely balanced yet, either; that's the reason I'm on here. I'd love to get some feedback, and criticism. I'd also like it if I could get some suggestions on cards (regardless of price --except land, and Force of Will) and maybe some theorycrafting on said cards.
Also, I know a lot of people don't like slivers. This is my first sliver deck, and I like their theme; kinda reminds me of the zerg...
(Afterwards I'll be building an angel based deck)
Edit: I just remembered I'll probably be throwing in a Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker in eventually.
yah
you need to drop the non-sliver creatures, max the better ones and drop the worst ones, that is my suggestion, trying to not change a lot the deck
with all pump slivers and 2 legion, you dont need coat/door
shifting/winged works as the same, if you want a fast deck, use 4 winged, if you want a flavour, use 2 of each, dont use 4 shifting, too much mana
in place of 2 naturalize you can use 2 krosan grip or if you want to sacrifice gateway at mid/late game you can use 2 harmonic sliver, same advice is for sylvan library, if you have, run brainstorm, ponder or any blue draw with 2 or less mana, also if you run harmonic dont run library.
if you want to include nicol bolas, you should drop one of the royal sliver team in place of nicol bolas
try to stay at 60 cards, its the minimun number for a deck, and that is good ^^
also, that deck isnt a fast deck, like i said above i try to let the deck flavour, check the first post of the prime for some "deck body" samples for each variant like combo, control and aggro, if you wanna win by nicol bolas, echoes, heartstone combo, check the combo body, if you want a more fast beater deck, check the aggro tips, if you wanna control the board with nice slivers to support combat check the control variant, like zoo sliver in the sample.
Hi all, it's me again with my CounterSliver. This time I would like your opinion on a mana base that costs an arm, but not a leg. I'm thinking about running the shock-lands with Land Grant as my pseudo-fetchland. Here's the list:

The Amoeboid Changling is in the deck specifically because I can use it to take over other creatures on the field when an Overlord is coupled with it. I guess I can get rid of the wall though; I liked it specifically because of the low mana cost, and some of my friends use huge creatures (also the reason Amoeboid is awesome). Since they use huge creatures, I planned on getting Hivestone alongside the changling and Overlord, so that creature would remain a sliver.
But I'll try slimming it down based on what you said. Thank you!
@osiris
yah osiris, if you go for the overlord path, try something like control
include the amoeboid/overlord again, and some good creatures, also hivestone will help too
but with that focus the deck body will change for a more control kind
i try to push your deck to a mid range aggro, with less ramp
^^
@apollo7
you mean your deck should be close to that:
what you think about standstill over ponder, its a cool soft lock with vial and counters.
op cast a spell, you trigger standstill, and if you have a counter in hand and thinks its necessary you could counter the spell, you still draw the cards.
the sad about land grant in a control deck is you need to reveal your hand, what is meh for control... but i think that runs cool.
I see what you mean about revealing my hand the land grant plan is in place until I can afford 4 Misty Rainforest. Standstill is great and expensive, but the argument for it is too strong to not consider it. I think I will make an effort to purchase 3 of them after I get the vials and the shock-lands and replace the ponders. I didn't think that I could counter a spell and take advantage of the card draw, that's kinda cool.
ZeroMD, would you recommend Aether Vials for my deck? Every sliver deck under the sun uses them.
Also, not having any counterspells in my deck scares me considering my friends use DD spells (Lightning Bolt, Fireball etc...) --however it won't matter soon... I plan on getting Leyline of Sanctity. Couple the Leyline and Crystalline Sliver and the only thing stopping you is Wrath of God, and its ilk. Atleast, that's the way I see it... there may be another way around that; not positive. o_O
Er... A naturalize and other enchantment destroyers would mess that up though... >_<
Are there any cards that give enchantments/artifacts shroud?
vial is a stronger card, see the price $$$
even if a enchantment destroyer is a problem for it, its a 1 cmc artifact that put a creature in play for you, what is the advantages of that ?
using the vial, you op cant counter your creature, using the vial, you still have the mana open for use, because of that most of slivers (and other decks) like to use vial, but the full power of vial is in a countersliver deck (see the Apollo7 deck), he has counters to protect the vial, counters to deal with any board clean card...
leyline isnt that good for a sliver deck, if you face too much board clean spells, maybe patriarch's bidding has a place in your deck, since you can have haste and hit in the same turn, for board damage cards like pyroclasm or DD cards, i think 4 crystal and 2 ward do the protection of you need, and if you think the DD cards is a problem for your life, darkheart sliver could help too, or drop the disenchant cards and other support cards for a zoo sliver based body, with lightning helix or bolt.
ps: vial also shows your true power if most of creatures of your deck share the same cmc.
i think your deck runs cool for casual, what about your playtest with the deck ?
i think you dont need to drop the brood if you like it, you can replace the coat for the legion, if you have, drop some city of brass for other fetchs lands like windswept hearth, but with focus on blue/green since you have blue spells and is thinking in increase the number of blue spells, also fetchs helps brainstorm, shuffling the library.
just care about 4 ancient ziggurat if you increase too much the number of spells in your deck.
you can reduce the virulent sliver to 2 and include some creature tutor like homing sliver, you can drop one essence, or even both, and put the darkheart sliver, its more fast, if your sliver going to die, you sacrifice and get life
Acidic Sliver
Basal Sliver
Bonesplitter Sliver
Clot Sliver
Frenzy Sliver
Fury Sliver
Heart Sliver
Homing Sliver

Sedge Sliver
Toxin Sliver
Two-Headed Sliver
Remember, slivers like cheap fillers with big hitters, you want to keep the expensive dudes to a low amount, slivers receive a lot of hate. The deck really depends on the direction you want to go.
For non slivers, I advise:
Terminate
Lightning Bolt
Blightning
Old Trade Thread
Powerdouble - Shrine of Burning Rage wins games you have no business winning.
Tanion - Humans are basically short bus Allies. Lame.
12 Island
6 Plains
Creatures 15
4 Crystalline Sliver
4 Sinew Sliver
4 Plated Sliver
3 Winged Sliver
4 Counterspell
4 Dispel
4 Daze
4 Spell Pierce
2 Swords to Plowshares
2 Path to Exile
Card Draw 7
4 Brainstorm
3 Ponder
Aether Vial is still out of my budget, but I am hoping to play permission until my slivers pull through for lethal.
Legacy "competitive" decks don't run of those sadly. They're way to costly mana-wise complicated by the fact that the Queen/Legion/Overlord require a rainbow to cast and can easily be countered/removed/stopped.

2 Swords to Plowshares
2 Path to Exile
4 Counterspell
4 Spell Pierce
4 Daze
4 Brainstorm
3 Ponder
Artifacts - 2
2 Aether Vial
I will be getting the last 2 Aether Vials and dropping the plated slivers, which will open up another land slot.
Thank you!
yah osiris, if you go for the overlord path, try something like control
include the amoeboid/overlord again, and some good creatures, also hivestone will help too
but with that focus the deck body will change for a more control kind
i try to push your deck to a mid range aggro, with less ramp
^^
@apollo7
you mean your deck should be close to that:
4 Temple Garden
4 Breeding Pool
4 Island
2 Plains
4 Land Grant
4 Muscle Sliver
4 Sinew Sliver
4 Crystalline Sliver
3 Winged Sliver
Instants - 20
2 Swords to Plowshares
2 Path to Exile
4 Counterspell
4 Spell Pierce
4 Daze
4 Brainstorm
3 Ponder
Artifacts - 4
4 Aether Vial
what you think about standstill over ponder, its a cool soft lock with vial and counters.
op cast a spell, you trigger standstill, and if you have a counter in hand and thinks its necessary you could counter the spell, you still draw the cards.
the sad about land grant in a control deck is you need to reveal your hand, what is meh for control... but i think that runs cool.

Are there any cards that give enchantments/artifacts shroud?
even if a enchantment destroyer is a problem for it, its a 1 cmc artifact that put a creature in play for you, what is the advantages of that ?
using the vial, you op cant counter your creature, using the vial, you still have the mana open for use, because of that most of slivers (and other decks) like to use vial, but the full power of vial is in a countersliver deck (see the Apollo7 deck), he has counters to protect the vial, counters to deal with any board clean card...
leyline isnt that good for a sliver deck, if you face too much board clean spells, maybe patriarch's bidding has a place in your deck, since you can have haste and hit in the same turn, for board damage cards like pyroclasm or DD cards, i think 4 crystal and 2 ward do the protection of you need, and if you think the DD cards is a problem for your life, darkheart sliver could help too, or drop the disenchant cards and other support cards for a zoo sliver based body, with lightning helix or bolt.
ps: vial also shows your true power if most of creatures of your deck share the same cmc.

i know replacing brood for another legions is possible. also i might put some Spell Pierce in.
i think you dont need to drop the brood if you like it, you can replace the coat for the legion, if you have, drop some city of brass for other fetchs lands like windswept hearth, but with focus on blue/green since you have blue spells and is thinking in increase the number of blue spells, also fetchs helps brainstorm, shuffling the library.
just care about 4 ancient ziggurat if you increase too much the number of spells in your deck.
you can reduce the virulent sliver to 2 and include some creature tutor like homing sliver, you can drop one essence, or even both, and put the darkheart sliver, its more fast, if your sliver going to die, you sacrifice and get life
