Storrev in the two deathtouch colors with built-in trample? Nice.
EDIT: New Krenko loves combat, too!
Combat! EDH will have MORE combat!
Aggro will be a thing, but Battecruiser still trumps it if they can get running. In 4 player matches, Battelcrusier has a better chance at beating aggro.
So we are at the 4th Niv-mizzet incarnation now. Not only is he still not a planeswalker, but he is now five color.
I actually see a few interesting decks that could use him, but i am actually curious how viable he will be in my Dragon tribal deck.
A lot of these cards are obscurely worded. Like widespread brutality, is Army a new creature type? If so, that means that it is a VERY bad rare. (N Standard maybe no so much if you are running 4 of them, and it could be good in sealed, but that is as far as i would go.
You have 32 two color dragon to chose from quite a bit are usually in either of the Ur-dragon deck (the scion and the true ur dragon)
But if the rules are made so you can grab beyond 2 color restriction then another 29 grabables added depending on what’s in the deck
If you can grab 3 color and up dragons then yes it’s worth it
my deck has 13 two-color cards. So it is not worth running him. As for a deck with Niv at the helm, That has way more potential. You can build a deck focused on his ability.
I'm planning to adjust my Scion deck to have 22-23 two-color cards. That seems to work fine in testing. Sometimes new Niv's ability misses, but more often it finds three cards. & even one card is okay. I'd probably run a 6/6 Dragon for five that merely drew a card on ETB.

My deck is more adjusted to needing those mono color cards showing up, not always but if I need a board wipe and pass by all or even pass by my tutors to find them, well then I just lost a lot of a ground. Overall it is not worth it to me.
As for running him in the 99 of say an interesting ramos deck I saw (One that ran "mono green" but a lot of it was hybrid mana cards. So given that a lot were 2 color (Even if all he had to do was pay green to cast it) it would probably benefit from Niv.
Now talk about a new staple. Anyone who's ever been on the receiving end of an Aura of Silence slowing you down, how's this for ALL of your spells.
Basically, if your opponents have no way to directly deal with it the tempo boost it gives you in comparison makes it hard to lose.
Bolas has a very large ego, even bringing his statue with him.
But pair this with Aura of silence and my Jhoira deck starts to cry.
It's an ugly statue...Nahiri, Storm of Stone(and she looks pissed) might be useful in my voltron build..I saw the name Nahiri's Stoneblades got exicted for now equipment then got sad

I like the idea of dropping Nahiri down...and just leaving her. Only using the loyalty ability when necessary. Otherwise she can take some hits and does some nice things in the meantime. Should not be a huge target unless you are being shady. Automatically gets you ready for Path of Mettle.
I dunno, the effect of God-Pharaoh's Statue is cool and all, but 6 is a bit to pay. I only run Aura of Silence in my Bruna deck, and the beauty of it there is when it comes down. Waiting a few extra turns to get a similar effect is a lot less useful. I can still see it being savage in combo and storm heavy metas, which is nice.
Deathsprout is nice as a non-conditional destroy at instant speed with ramp attached. That's good stuff.
How gross do we think new Krenko builds will get? With enough lords/Coat of Arms and extra attack phases he'll go off just nicely. Bare minimum he's a good add for Krenko 1.0.
Storrev, Devkarin Lich is ok, if a little underwhelming. Sort of like Eternal Witness but not as good and has to get through, which means you're playing a lot of the same old stuff. Well costed for a 5/4 trample though, so there's that.
It's wild that Ral, Storm Conduit turns the classic do-nothing play of Forking a Fork into a win. Wow! An infinite combo available since Alpha finally has its chance to shine.

I’m just going to add him to Krenko 1.0, he’s got some really good value for his cost (especially with the trigger being on attack, not damage), so totally going into the deck, but he’s not strong enough to be the commander. As is, Krenko 1.0 has enough lords to make him very worthwhile.

deathsprout seems kind of great, but also kind of worse than it looks. You want ramp ASAP, but you want removal only when absolutely necessary. Killing some medium value target on t3-4 is kind of a waste of time imo. The timings are totally different.
Not that it's bad, but I don't think it's amazing.

I was thinking much the same, this is well put. There's just not going to be very many scenarios where it does all of what it can do at one time.
Oh we have a suposivly rumor of what ugin does froma Chinese site
Oh might be eating your words about the statue by the way
The rumor is this of what he does
6
Ugin (name)
Legendary planeswalker - ugin
4 loyality
Static ability - colorless spells you cast cost 2 less mana
+1 create a 2/2 spirit creature and exile the the top card of your library when the spirit leaves the battlefield put the exiled card into your hand
(My notes I think the correct translation is put the top card facedown as a 2/2 spirit create you can turn it face up for its casting cost)
-2 destroy target permanent that has one or more colors
Quite a bit of you already made a mistake with undrating God-Pharaoh's Statue your complaints is due to comparing to aura of silence
Mistake 1 it’s colorless so I can go in any deck
Mistake 2 (which is the even bigger mistake) every single one of you forgot about every ramp and mana rock focused decks in edh particually kozilek, the great distortion decks you can T2 the statue without breaking a sweat if you do it right in certain edh decks
I'm aware of this, I just don't have a deck that it fits particularly well in. It's by no means a bad card, just not one of the cards I'll be chasing for an immediate slot in any of my current builds.

Of course, there are also going to be the times when you need to remove something AND you need to ramp where Deathsprout will be amazing, and being an instant means you can wait for the juiciest possible target before firing it off. I think it would only be a frustrating play if you absolutely need to ramp and you have zero targets, but even then if there is nothing on the field to hit then missing a land drop isn't necessarily killing you either.

I think it'll be a good answer to early cheap commanders while still allowing you to continue ramping.

When you only have so many 2-mana (Sakura-Tribe Elder, Rampant Growth, Nature's Lore, Farseek, Three Visits, Into the North) and 3-mana (Kodama's Reach, Cultivate, Nissa's Pilgrimage, Harrow) options, then this would be fine to run. At that point, it is competing with things like Skyshroud Claim, Explosive Vegetation, and Ranger's Path which are all fine, but I think that Deathsprout blows them out of the water.
Overall, I'm liking the set a lot so far. Cards like Bolas's Citadel, Neheb, Dreadhorde Champion, Flux Channeler, and a bunch of the Planeswalkers all look interesting.
